Italians buy olive oil from Greece, mix it with theirs and re-sell it as Italian.

In fact, 70% of the Greek olive oil is exported to Italy. Everybody thinks Italian olive oil is good LOL

Italians at least the past years used to buy Greek oil and sell it as it was of their production!That s a fact that was even declared through media!Maybe that way raised their popularity!
Why do all the Greek people think Italians buy Greek oil and sell it as it's Italian olive oil?
I mean It happens, but it's not a fraud, it's allowed to produce IGP olive oil according to the eu laws. Greeks can buy Italian/Spanish/Croatian/Iceland or wtf you want olive oil and sell it as IGP (not PDO) Greek olive oil, and that's not a fraud. You just don't because it's not convenient, Greek oil is too weak about marketing and it would be a no-sense. You play the victim having 0 clue about what really happens.

It's an EU rule, ignorant. If you buy olive oil and bottle in your country, it's allowed to be an IGP (but not PDO) product. It's not just Italy, if Greece buy olive oil from Spain and bottle in Greece, it's Greek olive oil.
Why Greeks blather so much about Italy?
Regarding the state of antiquities in Rome and Athens, you must remember that the Greeks preceded the Romans by several hundred years. Even tho the style looks exactly the same, and it is, the type of architecture spanned many centuries. So Roman and Greek antiquities are absolutely not of the same time. But you’re right, they were not taken care of, the Christians basically destroyed all the temples, or most of them, and used the materials to build churches. And then other occupiers, such as the Ottomans, kept Greeks quite poor, so there wasn’t any interest or education about preserving antiquities. That’s more of a modern and contemporary notion
Some monuments in Athens were destroyed during the venetian-ottoman war in the 18th century. In Rome many were under ground and though preserved.
@@tm2bow653 you’re right, best example is the Acropolis which survived thousands of years to be blown apart by a Venetian cannonball. (the Turks were using the site as a munitions storage)
From Wiki: During the Morean War the Parthenon was used as a gunpowder magazine by the Ottoman Army. On September 26, 1687, Venetian mortars bombarding Athens scored a direct hit on the edifice. An attaché of the Swedish field commander General Otto Wilhelm Königsmarck wrote later: "How it dismayed His Excellency to destroy the beautiful temple which had existed three thousand years!". By contrast Morosini, who was the commander in chief of the operation, described it in his report to the Venetian government as a "fortunate shot".
When he conquered the Acropolis in early 1688, Morosini attempted to loot Athena's and Poseidon's horses and chariots from the western pediment of the Parthenon, but the sculptures fell on the ground and smashed.[4][5] This was the first documented attempt to remove sculptures from the pediments.[6] The Ottoman Empire regained possession of the monument in the following year and, having noticed the damage, began to sell souvenirs to Westerners.[7]
Morosini also took the Piraeus Lion as a war trophy to the Venetian Arsenal.
Zeus temple in Athens was ransacked by an invasion of Heruli in 267 AD and then like the same temple of Zeus in Ancient Olympia it's better part was destroyed mostly by an earthquake. Unlike Parthenon who has been bombed by the Venetians. Parthenon was not affected by the same Earthquake because the hill of Acropolis is mainly limestone which behaves like a spring that absorbs the energy produced by the Earthquake. It's exactly the same case with a village named Fiskardo located on the northeast of the island of Kephallonia in Ionian sea. On the 1953 Earthquake of 7,3 Richter scale all the villages and the capital were almost completely destroyed apart this village which stands on limestone.

@@Rousseau4469 The temple of Zeus in Olympia was destroyed purposefully by human hand though, and not by earthquake. This is because all of its fallen columns are spread outwards from its base, rather than spreading in a single direction which would be indicative of an earthquake. This positioning / allocation points to the columns having their top tied with ropes then pulled outwards by horses.
I visit Athens often. I must say that I really like visiting the city. I adore the northern suburbs: Kifissia, Politeia, Ekali. Food is absolutely awesome. I absolutely adore the ancient sites.

Spain has the most olive oil. Italy is the better known exporter of foods. Greece has the best olive oil. and a lot of it gets bought by italian companies, they slap an italian flag on it and bump up the price to sell to the normies.
Gyms also suck in Greece. There are no 24/7 gyms. You want to work out on a Sunday or late at night? tough luck. And prices are insanely high, like 70 euros a month.
Yeah Italian ruins are very well preserved. Compared to the northern Italian ruins, Greek ruins are older.
And unlike Italy, Greece was under occupation from Turks who tore temples down to use as materials for mosques. And the same thing was done by the church as well. Sad.
Also the Parthenon was bombed twice. Once from the Venetians while it was used as gunpowder storage (genius) and once from the Nazis. And it still stands!....kinda.
Some of the ruins also gotcovered up or tore down because in the 1900s there was a huge housing crisis. Because millions of Greeks moved from Turkey to modern day Greece. And people were desparate, plus not educated enough / didn't care about preserving the ruins. Sad.
If you want to see better Greek ruins go to "old Greece" areas, like West Turkey and South Italy. You'll find whole ancient greek cities there.
The appearance of othomans turks in this region ( east Europe, Asia Minor) few centuries ego had huge negative consequences for the local nations. Sad

Your attitude which is common is the reason the Balkans will never really be prosperous. The French and the English have fought and dominated each other for centuries but have managed to put that past behind them to move forward.
There's no hype. A million Americans decided to visit Athens, none of you bother to research the rest of the country (and find out about historically preserved cities like Chania, Ermoupoli, Nafplio, Corfu, Hydra), then you make your millionth video about Athens, thinking you've invented the wheel. As for antiquities: I don't think anyone expects anything older than 1500 years to be intact. It's the same in Athens, Rome, Stonehenge, Macchu Picchu, or Angkor Wat.

Clearly you have not travelled. Other countries spend money repairing what is broken that brings in the visitors. Greeks rely on foreign investment. If it was not for foreign investment, Greeks would still be riding donkeys to work. What country do you think has invested their money in maintaining Olympia? It certainly is not Greeks nor Greeks. Who is doing all the building in Greece? It certainly is not Greeks. I could go on if you like.

People often forget that the Greek peninsula (roughly within the boundaries of today's Greek state), including Athens, lost its prominence in the early medieval period. The medieval centre of Greek culture actually shifted to Anatolia (modern Turkey) and the capital of the medieval Greek world became Constantinople (modern Istanbul).

@@captaingreek there is only ONE macedonia. And that is in Greece. It was a Greek city state were they Spoke Greek wrote Greek and spread the Greek culture. That other place you are referring are slavs speaking bulgarian language and have slavic history. Free Now is Uber on steroids and has more drivers on tap that UBER which uses taxis anyway. Rather use Free Now than Uber if you are looking for prompt service
Athens is not designed for people:Concrete everywhere ,almost no parks around the city center,huge traffic jams.BUT:the urban feeling you get ,especialy by night, is unique and nowhere else to be found in Europe.Food quality has also improved a lot in the last 10 years or so and i 'm not talking about souvlaki or gyros or mousaka.
All you have to do is to avoid touristic hot spots ,like anywhere else in the world
JUst wrapped up Athens. Its a great city and easily commutable. But strictly as a tourist, 3 days are enough and t6he sites including Parthenon are cool but not a must see on a bucket list. I would rate it a must see for serious history buffs and then for the rest if you have extra time and money. Greek Food is also limited in choices Shopping is not that great either. Better to go to their islands to chill, but they are expensive. Rate it a "B". Spend more time in Istanbul instead.
Interesting take. I found the food incredible. I don’t ever really shop it’s not something I value, much rather spend my money on flights or trips.

Greek Empire?
Well yes, there never was anything like a Greek empire. The Athenean and Spartan alliances is what comes closest. However, the Macedon empire formed by Alexander was culturally "Greek". The correct term for this would be Hellenistic, so "Greek" as a culture rather than a geographical place.

Exactly lol. Except the Acropolis there’s nothing else worth to go there for. I live close to the second biggest city of Greece, Thessaloniki and even that is a way more beautiful city than Athens. Pretty much almost every city of Macedonia has something worth visiting for and is prettier than the chaos of Athens

@@theliftingnomad As this is just mine :) I'd say Athens is great for a day, see the acropolis, museum or two and some of the other historical sites but after that make sure you get out of there and see the actual Greece. Its great for that as an in between stop: Close to the airport and the ferry port at Piraeus.
Uhm, the toxic expressions here about Athens are just that, toxic. Save it for your own bitter mind please. Athens is wonderful, even if you disagree, there are many more that LOVE this city…
