Anafiotika was built by builders from the island of Anafi who migrated to Athens to build places like the royal palace (now the parliament building). They built Anafiotika as somewhere to live themselves so they built it just like the island that they came from.

A megaproject is currently underway on the coast of athens. Athenians have for decades overlooked their sea. Athens has a very long coastline and some really nice beaches actually. Dont visit Athens just for the Acropolis, there are tons of things to see here.

Plaka is a thriving area with shops and restaurants, and very lively place. Always go up the Acropolis to see the Parthenon after 5pm - it is a lot less busy. I went up there at 10am and it was jam-packed with all the cruise-ship tourists but went there again at 5pm and it was pretty quiet plus the sun was almost setting. I stayed there until 7pm in the month of August and I think it was the best time to go. So my advice is go there between 5pm to 7pm in the summer months

Athens is not the typical european Metropolis with the neoclassical Buildings and the wide roads, the parks etc but DAMN in my opinion it is spectacular. There is something about the vibe of the city that makes it unique. The history, the people, the weather, the fooooood and the bar scene are a m a z i n g. My favorite european City along with Barcelona!
That monument in Athens represents to the whole world the history of Europe's oldest civilization as if from there. And it's true that your discerning presence in the streets, food, and houses of old Athens conveys a sense of being lost in a bygone era.

Hey Matt and Molly, Hope you had a fun time in Athens. Harriet and I have been several times. The last time we were there was March of 2019, right smack at the start of a worldwide pandemic.
We did manage to tour Athens to all the points of interest you saw as well as the Islands with the exception of Crete. The thing I liked about the food in Athens was the tasty chips with many of the meals we had. It was a bit pricey but worth it. Hope to go again soon for Harriet's conference next year. Great video as always, and Harriet and I truly appreciate the hard work that goes into

Good morning guys. I hope you are having a good time. The price of air fares have hit the roof. A friend of mine has just come back from Bombay. It cost him 6 grand for 2 tickets return. I do not know how the air lines can justify those prices. I studied a lot of Greece in history. It looks like a concrete jungle. Where are all the animals. This is what frightens me of Thailand. Greed will take over. I thought you both were in Spain. Have a great time, stay safe, keep smiling, and God Bless.

Hey not sure as we were there late October!
It's about 7-8°C degrees at night and highs are around 16-17 °C at noon, but it's much warmer in the sun!
Bear in mind that temperatures can vary throughout different suburbs of Athens. It's rarely too cold in the southern suburbs near the sea, but if you go to Kifissia for eg, it can be quite cold due to higher elevation and forest areas located nearby.
@@ekfylobifteki how is athens and the islands in July and August? I wanted to take my grandparents with us, but i worry it will be super hot and humid. It's not fun traveling and walking around all day in bad heat. I was going to go to athens and then 3 islands( crete, paros, and naxos). I know i probably should have gone in June:( I know 23C to 30C is most ideal weather. But, i don't know if the islands are more cooler and comfortable in July and August
@@clisaa6974 now it's more comfortable, highs are around 28 with lows around 20, Celsius
July and August can get super hot, even over 40 C° sometimes

Athens isn’t Europes oldest city I can’t believe you said that even though you have already been to the oldest city in Europe! So much respect Athens and Greece and you are gorgeous but don’t lie this is oldest city in Europe because it isn’t!
This is so offensive because Plovdiv is 4000 years older than Athens! I was born in Plovdiv I am so proud of that and I love Greece!
