I'm planning on getting the BMPCC4K, and then saving up for the G2 as an A cam and demoting the BMPCC4K to B cam.
perfect plan they are amazing together almost identical
Same here!
just bought the BMPCC 4K and the quality and options make the price even more unbelievable! great content man.
G2 WINS FLAWLESS VICTORY (MORTAL KOMBAT VOICE) 😂
Black magic is the future 🔮
red needs to choose its destiny
Camera from 2013 buddy, comparing it to what blackmagic was making back then it was incredible. The g2 is great for what it delivers but the red gemini does give way better footage and is super easy and versatile in use
@@thimoj7799 Even the RED SCARLET W look better.
REC709 is limited to 7.5 stops of DR, so you can't really judge a camera using only REC 709 profile.
That's not quite true. These transforms have tone mapping built in to preserve the full latitude of the image while maintaining adequate contrast in the midtones. The stock BMD LUTs don't always do their cameras justice though, I will say that.
I own an ursa mini pro 4.6k. I love not having to buy $1,200 proprietary mags, or $3,000 or more to get a proprietary audio breakout box for xlr. Oh and the built in ND filter is great too. I can record in different flavors of raw and prores. Ursa Mini Pro 4.6k kicks ass period, even in 2021. In the hands of any professional it will give Red /ALEXA a run for their money any day. Even large production houses confuse Ursa Mini footage for Alexa.
Hello, even 10 month ago when this video was released, i was able to edit flawlessly R3D natively on my macbook pro late 2013. So i will give the point to red as REDCODE allow you to go from 3.1 to 20.1 which is amazing depending on what you shooting you can save so much space as whatever the compression you are still getting a 16 bit raw image... which is amazing. Other than that i think your comparison is kinda fair. I have both anyway a bmpcc 4k ans a raven and yes i definitely feel a difference in the dynamic range, overall color science, file size. And i find the BRAW cool but i still think R3D is really amazing. Good job man ! Just suscribed
I would never use the extended video profile as a reference for the ursa.
Picking up my Ursa Mini G2 in about 10 hours. I'm excited.
congrats bro u wont regret it. just remember the current bugs
@@Jsfilmz Will test it thoroughly before I take it into action with her little brother BMPC4K. At the moment I'm also configuring the URSA to my Ronin 2. Also an exciting happening!
was your order on backorder and if so how long?
Sean McCoy I don’t remember when I first ordered it. I have a supplier who know I buy a lot and they ordered a bunch to be able to supply their most eager customers as soon as they got it. I was one of the first in Sweden to get one. I think I waited around two months when BM started to say it was under production.
JSFILMZ what bugs were you talking about? Have they been fixed? I’m literally headed to the store to buy one now
Thanks for the review, but keep in mind that you still need to buy batteries for the Ursa. You need a plate for the back of the camera to accept usually V mount batteries, but there are also Gold and possibly others, plus the batteries themselves and a charger. I got my Ursa Mini Pro from B&H and they included an IndiPro kit with the plate, 2x batteries and a charger for free with the camera (normally $750), but make sure you get something like that.
i didnt use a plate. just a cable worked. its not a necessity
You can actually put the BMPCC4K against the Red, and i Guarantee! No one will be able to tell which is which.... If! you do the shootout correctly and Fairly.
1- Same Glass
2- Same Controlled Lighting / environment.
3- And same "EXACT" shots, in studio or on location.
And of course, Someone who actually knows what their doing when it come to Grading and Color Correction.
I somewhat disagree. RED has a very distinct "look" to it. If you know what you're looking for, you can pick it out of a lineup. Especially if you're comparing RAW footage.

Well, The only thing to be said is, The PROOF is in the image quality.
ruclips.net/video/y5flKXstnVE/видео.html
you can tell which is which for sure
Hey mate would you be able to test the Ursa Mini Pro G2 against the Arri Alexa Mini, that would be awesome cheers.
RED should've could've delivered that 3K/$3K ten years ago as they promised to the community. Instead they chose to deliver a $50K camera for the elite and piss off the 99%. Yes, RED was the first out of the gate for 4K, although with a couple of years of expensive, BUGGY and disastrous cameras backed up with worst service in town. Time passed and tech matured while RED is just delivering the same ol' schiyt with bombastic names and OK features under sky-high price tag. They have redefined the definition of " Point of Diminishing Returns " as most under $10k cinema cameras can deliver almost the same footage as seen here presented by JSFILMZ. RED cameras are collecting dust even in rental houses these days. Thank you for taking the time to do this test. For sure it's an eye opener
u seen that red mini mag thing they dealin with right now?
@@Jsfilmz I stopped following anything RED related almost five years ago. But I can't help it to notice reports and Pro comparisons done like what you have done here. And yes, I had a good laugh when CINEMA5D issued that article on the subject of RED mini-Mag.
This is actually the decision im trying to make right now. So thanks for the video
I use the RED Epic MX 5K and URSA Mini 4K and I have to say honestly I have to give it to the URSA Mini 4K. The DR is definitely less clocking in at 12 stops but as far as delivery to client goes, projects shot on the URSA are delivered quicker (talking about those same day event shoots). RED looks better indoors but outdoors I can't tell the difference between the two half the time. Looking into the URSA Mini Pro G2 to replace the URSA I have now (maybe the RED to lol).
RED just seems like a joke now. How do they maintain such a large following?
They used to be top then they fucked up. To be honest they mostly seems to have social following nowdays
@@petrosdimitriospilichos9195 I guess another reason people choose Red is because of it's wide support. Everybody in high-budget shooting has worked with it and it saves time in the long run when you have a camera system that everyone else has. (Hence why I'm considering a switch to sony even though I love my GH5 better)
@@zachschermerhorn8090 Thats is true, a lot of hollywood is done on red cameras. I guess thats one more reason.
I recently shot with the Arri Alexa Classic and to be honest there is not sensor or footage out there that comes close to it. The highlight roll off details in the shadows and the easy of grading with just a simple Arri Rex 709 + plus some twitch here and there and spectacular. I’m tired of people trying to compare Ursa Mini, canon cinemas camera to the Alexa sensor. There is no comparison at all
Ursa Mini Pro G2 went on a 10 category winning streak. Saved you a click.
*SPOILERS*
JSFILMZ Haha my bad bro. Just excited the G2 dominated. Keep up the good content!
@@Motionandstory lol in messing with you yea thinking of whats next maybe p4k vs red dragon
compares a camera from 2013 to a camera from 2019. Honestly what did you expect. Now stop hating on red being expensive and get a fair comparison going to the red gemini or even the lower end red bodies.
Seems like a cool review for the ppl who cant afford a red and who can afford a bm and get pretty much the same results to avg clients eye. And it may not be a 2019 camera. Perhaps they were working on it from 2017 hell, who knows
I thought it was a stupid comparison but then I realised the price of a ursa mini g2 is cheaper brand new now than an old red or is way more advanced tech wise for a similar price of an old Red. So it’s a relatively fair comparison but definitely agree in some ways.
I'm also into Ursa mini pro G2 so I really appreciate your videos!
Redgamma 4??? Wow, IPP2 works on all RED cameras and is quite an improvement. There's a module for the DSMC cameras to put xlrs. And the Epic Dragon is 6k so a much larger sensor then 5k, higher framerates, and higher data/less compression then the Scarlet
yea i think i said that at the end
JSFILMZ not all of that
Also it’s not really fair to compare a camera from a 7 year old company at the time (Red) with BM’s approximate 7 year old camera-the sensor is one thing. But the ACIS boards are another, which definitely contribute to s/n and overall performance and frame rates. In any case to see how the much older dragon sensor/camera compares with a newer just shows how far ahead Red is then BM
my 4 6k is still holding it down. I love it.
its ridiculous how cheap they are now too. u can get one for 2.8k still a bad ass cam if you light
That's why people shot BRAW and then convert to rec709! :)
Clean content man! Kudos on the growth.
What usb-c drives have you used in the G2 and were there any limitations on frame rates and codecs with it?
Nice music video featuring some guy speaking in the background.

Gen5 Color Science has been released and now we have to compare with it.
Geez, I was just about to pull the trigger on a used Dragon, I still love my MX but there's not enough of an advantage with the Dragon. Is the G2 sensor similar to the BMPCC4K? I know it's a Micro 4/3s but the low light is amazing with the dual ISO. I have that and love it, thinking about at G2.
here u go bro ruclips.net/video/Z9wtaca4wjw/видео.html
For color science I kinda prefer the Red
I would NOT trust a Blackmagic Ursa mini G2 or the pocket 4k on a feature shoot in terms of software/firmware and software reliability. I hired a pocket 4k and it froze up 2 times on a long shoot and the screen was unresponsive a few times....I would trust the red over BM....but would be more relaxed with a Alexa mini in terms of camera software reliability. That's why hollywood still shoot with top end expensive cinema cameras....reliability.
that maybe true but for a price of a red camera u can have 15 pocket 4ks as back up if all 15 are bad then ur sol. Arri alexa on the other hand u can shoot 4k videos for $98,000? It reall cost that much to manufacture? lol i can get 2 audi q5's for that
@@Jsfilmz True.I personally would go for a 2006 Subaru STi forged engine. And that Boxer engine rumble 😍

1. Even if you not all are colorist why comparing how the rec709 doese look, thats a very strange comparsion like comparing a monitor and showing a lowres GIF-images and telling users just vewvie gif on facebook on their monitors :D
2. Braw vs redraw. First of all braw is only suppored on davichi ressolve ( premievere via a 3party plugin with very shady support) that means you cannot use braw to studios working on other software. Redraw is supported buy all major NLE. Second you dont need the redrocket-X card to edit redraw if you have a "normal" computer for editing you should be fine but I agree that braw is more computer friendly.
3. red is a module system and the have a audio module with XLR.
4. You talk a about media and yes BM can record on external SSD-disk but what about reliability?
I din't use the G2 but what about stability of both cameras? I have seen crasehs on both red and BM but not on ARRI-cameras.
Also there is diffrenct requments to shoot a film or shoot a youtube video in the basement.
Turn of that crappy trancemusic when you talk.
the only problem with coloring these cameras is that its subjective, i would get alot more negative comments such as your comment if how i graded is not to people's liking. Its better to show them the camera out of the box and allow them to download the files so they can play around with them. I have tried it in the past and trust me, its better to just show the standard rec709's when comparing cameras.
@@Jsfilmz bro, you don't have to do a color grade. Just color correct. Correction is not subjective, it's just getting a balanced, neutral image by adjusting your white balance, contrast, and saturation (most of the time at least). It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it. RUclips is a great resource (sometimes - watch out for those idiots who use creative LUTS in place of technical LUTS, they're everywhere lol), just look it up. And if you're interested in learning how to grade, Avery Peck has some fantastic tutorials.
Otherwise, if you're recording just rec709, you're not actually comparing what these cameras can do as far as DR, and the color isn't going to be the same in rec709 compared to log. I imagine most people buy a cinema camera to shoot, well, cinema. And nobody shoots films in rec709. Unless they don't know anything. In which case they shouldn't be spending that much money on a cinema camera.
I see you have a Portkeys Monitor... have you tried using it to control the Ursa G2? If so, does it give you all controls needed to operate the camera on a run and gun shoot? Is it worth the $500 investment?
far as i know it only works with p4k and p6k and no the g2. Honestly since the atomos shinobi dropped in price, i would rather recommend that
@@Jsfilmz can the Atomos Shinobi control the G2 camera?
What lens did you film this video (of yourself) with?
sankor 16c with contax zeiss
@jsfilmz. Do you have an opinion between the Sankor and ISCO for Anamorphic kit setup? I've read in a few places the ISCO might be a little better. I'm pairing it with Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 Planar T ZF.2 series. I think the Isco may have a more modern look, sharper and has more contrast while the sankor pairs better with vintage lenses and has a more classic, softer look. Your expertise and thoughts greatly appreciated.

@@Jsfilmz Yes, we're on same page, we thought your footage of strasbourg christmas market 2018 was really good. We just got the BMPCC and needed an anamorphic solution. Yours is really clever. We want a vintage look with softness and blue flares too. The christmas market evidences it can be achieved. I watched your recent video for why you tried to upgrade to kowa from sankor to capture wider shots? before we move forward with the sankor purchase, do you still feel this is a good setup? of course it would be nice to have the dinero for true anamorphic but personally i still think story and content is king so long as you have great camera work and sound.

Nice
San Antonio for the win!
The G2 is a fine camera. BM has come a long way over the years. However, comparing a 6 year old camera to a brand new camera is honestly, laughable. If you truly wanted to compare a Dragon to a G2, you would need to compare the Dragon-X to the G2. And then magically, many of your "wins" for G2 would be handed to Dragon-X... Keep in mind you are testing a new sensor to a 6 year old design. Compare it to a Gemini and again, more of your "wins" will slide right over to Red. Bang for the buck? Sure, G2 will win. You don't buy a Red because you want the cheapest camera. You buy it because of what it can do. R3D is a vastly superior codec in every respect to BMRaw. Saying R3D had issues in the past and comparing to the present? That's not realistic. I cut 8K footage on my laptop. I don't have a Red Rocket in my laptop. I will absolutely say people should buy what they want and there is a right tool for the job, always. But, putting this kind of comparison out here is not helping your viewers or you. That being said, keep going. At least you are working and shooting. That's all we really ever want anyway. So, keep that up. Just do more reasonable comparisons in the future. If you can't get access to a new cam, don't do the comparison. Sorry, didn't mean to harp on you. Just wanted you to know facts.
Scott Balkum some people want to see the comparison because they are thinking about changing equipment, so you’re wrong, he’s helping his viewers and himself. If you don’t like the premise of a comparison video, just don’t watch it 🤷♂️
Hey buddy are you in San Antonio?
So you're comparing those cameras because they both came out the same time after their first camera.
Please do it again in your next video about cars and compare a Tesla Model S to an 100 years old Mercedes..... or a Apple iPhone 3GS to an Nokia 3210....

RED is for pros, BM for Prosumer.
Wrong. Pros use Alexa. RED is for pro-wannabe filmmaker with low to medium budget.
@@Akasacarafilm I like both Cameras. In addition, I love Blackmagic and what it has done for me. Professionally, RED has made a huge difference in my work. You are right, RED has given medium budgets an opportunity to use a proven sensor that works when you know what you are doing. To say that "Pro-Wannabe" filmmakers use RED is really absurd. Matthew Libatique has used RED in some huge budget movies like "Venom" and "Straight out of Compton". A lot of Marvel movies are shot on RED and Alexa together. "Captain Marvel" was shot on the Monstro Sensor in a Panavision body. The fact that Panovision uses RED sensors says something. Most Netflix Originals are shot on RED's. RED has earned it's way to compete for big budget movies. Alexa has had years of experience in the Film world and deserves its respect. I look at RED and Alex like I look at Film Stock similar to Fuji and Kodak. Different looks but both are quality.

@@Akasacarafilm yeah you know shows like Stranger Things and Narcos those are wannabe filmmaker shows huh. Social Network wasnt a real movie lol.
If the dp sucks, shoot on RED (cause if you do, the footage HAS to look good, right?) but if the dp has talent, give him ANY camera. And let’s face it, if an ASC used an URSA MINI PRO 4.6k and didn’t tell anyone, and that footage got treated like any other Alexa, no one would tell the difference. The only reason they won’t use it is because it would prove it’s value in image quality for waaaaay less money. Ultimately it’s not about quality but rather being pretentious. Spend all the money you want getting images others can get for a fraction of a cost (sometimes even better images) That doesn’t make one “prosumer” but rather SMART PROFESSIONALS. And how many people out there do you know that are making huge studio features? I bet you aren’t either. The fact remains, BMD creates cameras that compete with cameras far more expensive. If you can’t get a great image out if your BMD raw footage, than guess what, you are not a pro.

you mean RED and ARRI? or Scarlet/epic and Alexa? alexa classic? you named a camera brand and then a camera model. RED and ARRI wont go anywhere.. especially ARRI.. Red will likely dip down and start competing with blackmagic and start producing cheaper cameras, they are already working with foxconn as we speak to develop new cameras.. basically if you buy a 50k RED today.. thats same camera will be in a smaller lighter form, for 3-5k in the next 3 to 4 years..ARRI will stay up with the big boys and will maintain its throne in big budget productions
