"A Generation Forgotten" Capt. Fred Olds Vietnam War Story

Christmas Eve in 1965 was life changing for Capt. Fred Olds when he received orders to Vietnam.
Olds, from Clearwater, Fla., speaks about the hardships and duties he faced during his time in Vietnam.
When he left for Vietnam, he left behind his wife and three children. The only way he was able to keep in contact with them was through letters and tapes.
In May of 1967, Olds returned home, his family the only ones welcoming him back.
To this day, Olds continues to keep in contact with other Vietnam Veterans as they continue to tell current service members the untold stories of the Vietnam War.

These men should be treated with respect and honored for what they did. My country has embarrassed me by the way the Vietnam Vets, were and still are treated. Thank you for your service.

served aboard the U.S.S Austin under this man, during my stay aboard we went thru 3 captains, Captian Olds was by far the best we had.This man understood the trials and tribulations his crew went thru, her was stern yet fair, I was taken to captains mass in which he busted me down a rank and gave me restriction, 2 days before we were to get underway too New orleans,then to cuba, while in new orleans he called me into the officers mess and told me he was going to re-instate me and pull me from restriction, besides myself there was one more man involved in the incident, he was also reinstated, while we were out on burbon street at a pub, Caption Olds came in, called myself and my friend over to his table (which was cluttered with brown nosing ensigns) and bought us a couple rounds of hurricanes, he drank what we drank,so just to sum it up, I had and still have great respect for this man!
