  • “In The Land of Beginning Again” … Again
There tends to be more surprises and stretching out when I’m playing out on a gig versus making a video at home, so here’s another gig video of a tune I posted previously. This is a nice mellow brunch hang in Flint at Queens’ Provisions. With many of the tunes I play, I don’t have a set arrangement that I always stick to. Here’s another instance of taking the core of the tune, some bits I have worked out, and using them to make decisions on the fly.
The guitar is a 1930 Gibson L5. Made in Kalamazoo, MI. a very special acoustic archtop
I recorded this with an Electro Voice V 2 ribbon mic into a UA Volt plugged into my phone.
    Enjoy!

Beautiful! I love that you play these old songs that a lot of us these days have probably never or barely heard.

Thank you! I’m working on that as we speak.. compiling some live recordings like this one as well as some home recordings. If you’d like to stay up to date, I have a mailing list at erikmcintyre.com

Hi Erik, I really enjoy your performances and the tunes you choose to work up. May I ask, could you share with me where to go to find tunes of the time period you play for my own work up? I can of course come up with Eddie Lang material, but I know there is more I would to learn to play.

Hi Terry, thanks very much. There’s always more music to learn! I suppose if you’re looking for tunes that I play from this time period, this youtube channel is a place to start! Heh. I am starting to post more regularly so stay tuned.
I’m always poking around for songs I connect with. I have stacks of old sheet music and have lists of tunes “on deck” that I want to work up.
I guess one way I find stuff is by perusing the available recordings by any given artist from the time, and making note of anything that hits me. Checking out singers in particular can be good for this.. Louis Armstrong, Nick Lucas, John McCormack, Henry Burr, Ruth Etting, Annette Hanshaw, Rudy Vallee... think about what you already like and go digging for stuff that’s related!
Another approach is to look at who wrote tunes you already know and like, browse their catalog, and look for any recordings/sheet music if something seems interesting. There’s many hidden gems

@@Rikmacmusic I really appreciate the guidance Friend! I am already on the hunt. I look forward to listening to your music. I just finished up transcribing and learning, "A Little Kiss, A Little Love", based on Eddie Lang. I am working on "Davenport Blues" now. Gee, it is a lot of fun working up these tunes.
