Carla, I have to say, as dramatic as it sounds, you've changed my life! I was so inspired by your videos that I have been cleaning and clearing like crazy and now I have a lovely morning and night routine that keeps my flat tidy and brings me joy. Everytime I walk into my clean kitchen I think 'who am I now?' I'm a new woman lol. You're so appreciated. Sending good vibes from London 🤗🤍
Lots of love and empathy about the paper situation -- I was in a similar situation with my father the past three years. The extra emotional part of it makes dealing with the paper so much harder. Unsure if you want advice or not so feel free to ignore) -- 1) Anything "standard post" (look at the stamp) is advertisement/junk -- so it goes straight to the shredder/recycling/trash 2) a letter opener makes opening the first-class mail more fun and ASMR'ish 3) once something is open, don't put it back in the envelope. It makes it harder to see/find later and takes up more room when storing it. Recycle/throw away the envelope it came in 4) I have a paper tray for "to do" paper things (bills, car tags, insurance calls). Things go there before they are filed. They must be open before going in, and I write a "due date" at top right that's at least a four days before they are actually due. Depending on how my emotions are, sometimes I could only do one "Dad" thing a day, other times I could focus on his stuff for 30 minutes or so and get a lot done, but usually I could address his business within the week then... 5) File it for the year. I got an expanding file envelope for his mail that had 13 tabs in it. One for each month, and then one for things I knew were going to be necessary at tax time. Invoices, important notices, bank statements, etc were just filed by month. I also included at the front stamps and written out information I would sometimes need when handling his bills/medicare/etc. (LogIns for online paying, his Insurance info, etc.) 5) I also got a slim file box --once we figured out taxes for the year, I could empty the expanding envelope, shred what we didn't need to keep anymore, and put longer-term storage paper into the file box (tax return, insurance documentation for the year, etc.) Keeping his stuff separate from my own helped me not feel so overwhelmed, and when I realized I needed something, could easily find it (like medical bills to write off his taxes).
wow thank you for taking the time to write this out it is soooo insanely helpful!! The best advice is always given by someone who actually has experience in dealing with the thing the person is going through so this comment is worth gold. thank you again and I've pasted this into a doc to do exactly this xoxoxo
Maybe you need a “mail center” consisting of an In tray, small shredder, and some sort of file box. All incoming mail 📨 goes in the tray and you handle it once a week. Im glad the person actually came to pick up, thats the worst part of giving away/selling, when people flake out.
I agree with this. As soon as I bring in my mail, I open it over the trash can. I used to have a shredder next to my trash can but it broke. Have a filing cabinet nearby to sort. It’s been incredible!
If you get your paper work figured out, please share!! My current "system" is "shove it in this 5 year old baby shower bag and stuff it in the hall closet!!"
I really enjoyed watching this Carla, it's amazing how much quicker tidying up is after decluttering even when things have got a bit out of control, I loved seeing Mr Samson too 🥰
Hi Carla - happy to hear you are feeling better. 🌷 It’s amazing how (relatively) easy it is to tidy up, the less stuff you have. Was thinking back to when I first discovered your channel, very early on. You have made such fantastic progress! Seems the more stuff you let go of, the easier it is. Yay you! ❤️
I know you have mentioned the possibility of getting a dining table. I think it would be a very good idea. Maybe you could find a small café table and two chairs. You make so many wonderful meals for yourself. I think it would be fun to have a nice spot to partake of them.😊
One essential for decluttering is being able to donate or repurpose without actually having to dump as all that waste gives me stress. One object with many purposes is so satisfying and keeps me grateful, free and accountable. It is nice to see you out and about liming with friends and family; myself, I recognise I have some social anxiety, so good for you.
In the last 2 days since I found your channel I have BINGED your videos (whilst I’ve been cleaning and tidying). I genuinely mean it when I say, I don’t think I’ve ever related to someone on here as much as I do you; your processes, your style, your lifestyle and thoughts on having to ‘adult’ - really glad I found your channel 🙌🏻
A good papersystem I've learned from the MinimalMom is to have 3 (or 4) places for your paper to go: One (or 2) for *"to do/pay"* (do = urgent, pay = _very_ urgent), one for *"to file"* (expiring things for 1 year, permanent things in a "life bin") and one as a *"time will tell bin"* , where you put things you _could_ use, but _don't have to_ (catalogues, special offers, gift coupon etc..). You could have those in a container/bin/basket with 3 folders for example, or in one of those stacking organizers with 3 compartements..
So sorry you have been sick, happy you are on the mend!! It always feels so good to complete your to do list!! I am tackling mine and it is a beast!! Your videos help so much and they get me moving!! Thank you for showing us what is possible!!❤❤❤
I watched this late last night and woke up early this morning.I decided to get up and clean/tidy. It’s amazing how much you can get done in a few hours. I’m glad your feeling better..Thx for the motivation😊
WHOA. Your washer has a hair catcher thing. I wonder if my washer does too... It's a Samsung front loader though. Gotta agree on the adulting is hard part.
This video was so satisfying to watch! I love watching decluttering videos because that makes me want to be productive as well. I really liked this style of video with the different camera angels while you went around and cleaned up your house with the groovy and nice music. When youtubers talk a lot in their videos while decluttering I can sometimes think that it disrupts the flow of the video so it was very pleasant to see your style of content :)
So sorry you weren't feeling to well 🌷 but happy to see you have your strength back 🤗 ....oh! I was the one that commented about if you ever move from that place to alert me fast (hehe) also when you get tired of that wooden purse @ 9:09 I'll be happy to hold it for ya 🏃🏾♀️..... Let me stop being greedy for now 🤭
Yes, we all fall behind or stumble at some times on our journeys. But that's okay, as long as we get back on track at some point again. BTW: Does Hello Fresh also cater to people eating low carb? And yes, it is astonishing how much you actually do on one day alone.
I’m loving the music Carla! 🤩 I also love that romper in the beginning, where did you find that. If you don’t mind my asking? Sorry to hear you have been sick, glad you are getting better! Kisses to cutie Sampson! Xoxo
I just found your channel! I've been watching cleaning videos all day, and I realized there are no men making videos about cleaning or decluttering!! WHY? LOL! I also want to say I like your music choices. It's very calming and relaxing!
I love Buy Nothing groups, you can post literally anything for free on there and it's gone within the hour. Also amen to the simplifying life. We've overcomplicated so much unnecessarily.
Hey Carla....just putting it out there, but I think that you should keep the desk in the living room for day to day mail and bills etc and kep the bedroom one for your journalling and the like. I don't know. ..I kinda like it ☺☺☺
Now that your desk is closer to the front door, you could place a basket or a small tray and an envelope opener. Open the mail daily and identify what needs to deal with right now. Anything else you can tackle once a week. Please keep us updated with the new desk situation!🙏🏻🌸
well i only check my mailbox maybe once a week. it's at a part of the building i don't go to regularly and then with my dads mail that is also picked up hmm maybe every couple weeks when i visit. i do love the basket and opener idea!! i will def have updates xo
Agree with opening immediately and at least have two trays (or whatever): one for things that need action and one for things to file. Maybe a third one for things you're unsure about, like coupons, vouchers and stuff. You can sort the open ma directly and will know what to grab when it comes to taking action :-)
I too am a care person for my husband who had a stroke last year. He can not use his right side leg and arm very well. He has lost a lot of use of his right hand. He uses his one good hand. He knows how to drive but can not physically drive a car. I have to physically help him at shower time. I now run errands by myself including carrying all the groceries from the car to the condo. I pay all the house hold bills and sign documents. I agree with you that paper work slows us down. Yes, making chores easier helps. Thanks for your videos.
Oh man wish I would’ve connected with a buy nothing group when I was moving! Seems like a great alternative to Craigslist for giveaways. Looks like you’ve got a much easier clean up situation now! Samson (yawn)😍
My tip is to set trash bins in every room. I would be collecting trash all over the house. Now I empty 4 bins once every two weeks. If you can recicle, add double bins. Life can be easier.
My real 1st day off in 2 weeks. I wasn’t planning on decluttering my office/sewing room/spare bedroom but thanks to my hubby for wanting something from the filing cabinet & dislodging a drawer, I decided that it’s finally time to clean it out & shred a LOT of paperwork that we don’t need anymore! I’ve also filled a big box & several large bags for donation. I’ll be happy when it’s GONE!
@@TheCarlaProject I ended up shredding an ENTIRE black garbage bag with things from the office! My husband had insisted in the past to keep things without looking at them. We found old booklets from lawnmowers & appliances that we haven’t had in at least 5 years!
Good sorting and tidying as ever. We have found that having fewer surfaces to put things on makes it easier to keep things tidy. We don't have a coffee table, just a couple of small side tables, to hold a cup and book, which means there is nowhere to leave things! I have also found that having fewer of everything helps (as a couple who rarely entertains). For example, 4 dinner plates, 4 small plates, 4 wine glasses, 1 frying pan, 2 saucepans, 4 towels, 2 sets of bed linen. It works for us and has reduced the need for storage, and maintenance energy! Good luck on your journey - I have been on mine for nearly 4 years now and it gets better all the time! Love from Cornwall x
I'm so jelly of how much sunshine you get! Spring is 3 weeks LATE here in Michigan - now it's raining (expecting thunderstorms later today) Even though your place gets messy, it's so easy to clean up! Don't you love that? Well done you for all of your decluttering and organizing!
@@TheCarlaProject It's sunny here today! I was beginning to mold lol! This video motivated me to clean up several 'hot spots' in my bedroom! Thank you!
I use a the Mimimal Mom system together with a Sunday basket system. Basically all paper items collected in the week go into a basket (I use an upright magazine folder) and once a week you go through each bit of paper and decide what needs to be actioned for the week. Anything left stays in the basket for next time. Most of my leftover paper are lots of scraps of paper with ideas or paper I don't know what to do with yet but arent urgent. By doing this once a week it helps me decide what needs to be done. It's my main organising tool so during the week any thought, appointment I will write down and put in the basket but I only deal with the basket once a week, so it frees my mind as I know I will deal with it later. It takes a bit of time to start but after a few months I spend less than 15 minutes a week on paper clutter. I'm finally not overwhelmed by paper and am actually organised now!
Pretty sure you're my tan twin from a different timeline... everything is so relateable and our taste in clothes etc is so similar lol! Happy posting, may the Google gods give you coin!
Hey! I’ve an idea. I see you’ve decluttered some crystals. If you have more what about leaving them on the beech or under a tree somewhere? Someone would be so excited to find them. Also, that leaf lampshade was GORGEOUS!!!!
Good on you, Carla!!! When I returned back to The States last summer, I had 3 YEARS OF MAIL to go through and deal with. I had not been to the States since July of 2018, there was literally a mountain of mail 🤣...I only had 3 weeks in which to tackle everything, so I was ruthless. I shredded and threw out 90% of it all, but there were very important items embedded in between the less needed stuff, so had to go through each piece 😕...It was affectionately referred to as "THE GREAT MAIL MARATHON". We're all different in how we respond to being unwell. I tend to hole up in just one room and rarely see any other room inside my house; I especially ain't gonna cook 🤣, so my kitchen is darn there in pristine condition. I ain't changing up my lounge wear, so hardly have any clothes needing to be washed. At least you kept yourself moving and busy. You maintained a proper routine with your meals, and that's very important when one is feeling under the weather. Getting rid of things no longer needed or wanted is such a good feeling. It does give that feeling of freedom since it might mean less time required for upkeep and maintenance.
When one's ill, having clean surroundings helps with the recovery. But in order to have clean surroundings, one needs energy to clean and tidy up, and during illness it's rather impossible. Cutting oneself some slack is the only way out of this vicious cycle. Hope you're feeling better :*
Totally especially when you live solo and can’t get out of bed except for the basics. Feeling much better and house is looking much better…for today :)
As soon as I see the new video pic on this one I think to myself, I am not alone, I'm not the only one! It's ok to not have a spotless house all of the time! What a relief to have a reminder of that... thank you again, and thank you for being so real, And for helping break this image of everything is "perfect", and very easy to obtain. You show that it's real life, a work in progress, and by working hard, step by step there is such a beauty in the journey.... And what you have accomplished This far, is amazing to me. You are a true inspiration.
So glad you are feeling better, being sick is miserable. Lists, I love them. Every morning I list my jobs for the day, even making the bed goes on there....just love ticking everything off, helps me get thru the daily mundane stuff. Don't get much mail anymore, bills come by email now so not much paper to overwhelm us. Have a good day today, well it's early morning for us here in New Zealand, whatever time it is for you Carla, enjoy.
It does feel good to check those things off right!! And if I ever feel like ohhh I shouold be doing more then I just write down all I've done that day and see that it is always more than enough! Have a fab day in NZ😍❤️
Is it possible to get your dad's and your mail sent electronically? I get all my bills by email (and with filters they go on their respective folders). The only stuff in my mail box are flyers and that kind of nonsense that go straight into the recycling bin.
not really it is so much stuff that they don't do electronic only. we're talking about an 84 yo vet with a pension social security insurances medi-care mortgages home insurance property taxes pool guy gardener caregiver nurses med boxes dr bills policies investments taxes an estate and the list goes on and on and on. it's also tough being poa for someone and is a long process to get access to his things at all. trust me it's not easy and he had no electronic systems set up plus several years of dementia where things were not taken care of for me to catch up on.
Glad to hear you are feeling better and out and about with friends-sometimes the best medicine (and the beach doesn't hurt either). Love, Love love your channel. Thanks for keeping it real and being so darn inspirational!
Great video, I love the music❤️ I wish we could have seen the space now that the desk is moved out, maybe we could see in another video? Keep up all the hard work, your home is stunning
long time folower-my tip for paper is to scan the important documents. it's alot of work the first time you do it-but amazing afterwods! for exemple-at this stage i scan onesa yeaer all my paparsalerys . i make a folder with the work place name and year and then scan files 1 to 12. easey and fast. in my canttry i dont really need the original. when the need arrives i can allwes print it. i store all of it in an small extornal memory card. ps: sorry for the spelling-i'm not native english speaker.
Always enjoy your vlogs. Went to thrift store today. Found 3 brand new tops with tags on. 6 tops will going to a friend. Thank you for your vlogs they keep me moving to get rid of things.

Love your videos like always... it is so nice to see your surroundings ...so beautiful 😁 I am just ruminating, that one reason that your mail keeps piling up could be that it triggers emotional pain because you are caring for your father... Our brain is designed to avoid pain, so we procrastinate.... A nice photo with you and your father to remind you of a nice memory could be worth a try, so that you collect the mail close to the photo frame
Love you videos I live in LA as well you motivate me to start my channel back up how do you stay motivated to vlog can you please give me some pointers thank you

Well done you for all of your decluttering and organizing!
oh my goodness a thunderstorm sounds amazing right now hahah we are about to hit a mini heatwave this week! xo
The glimpse of that beach was so uplifting for me, living in a dreary town just outside London. Love your content and your voice is so soothing ❤️
Happy you’re feeling better 🙏🏼🥰
Me too!!❤️
Paper is my Achilles heel as well. At this point in my life I accepted that this is something I'll only do once a year, namely when my taxes are due.
Bit by bit
I love that "while I'm in motion". That's so true for me that everything is easier when I have momentum already.
Hi Carla keep the house tidy is a constant battlle but it it's easier when you have less things love from Athens Greece
Pretty sure you're my tan twin from a different timeline... everything is so relateable and our taste in clothes etc is so similar lol! Happy posting, may the Google gods give you coin!
Hahahah thanks love!! Glad you found me! And yes I will take those blessings too!! 💸💗😍
@@TheCarlaProject 🙏❤ yes ma'am!!!!
Glad to know I’m not the only one that just leaves the clothes where I strip them off at lol my mother and grandmother hate that
That was a nice decluttering video and donating stuff.
Please take this in the best way possible, having less stuff will not cure messiness.
I said it helps me tidy faster. never said it was a cure.
@@TheCarlaProject I misunderstood, wishing you the best! I do understand, it’s a struggle but I know you can do it! Big fan of your content
Hey! I’ve an idea. I see you’ve decluttered some crystals. If you have more what about leaving them on the beech or under a tree somewhere? Someone would be so excited to find them. Also, that leaf lampshade was GORGEOUS!!!!
Great idea!!
Really love all your videos! You are so relatable and down to earth.
It does give that feeling of freedom since it might mean less time required for upkeep and maintenance.
oh yes i need a mail marathon you understand. it is a task to behold. good on you for getting through that wow!! xoxo
And what you have accomplished
This far, is amazing to me. You are a true inspiration.
you're so kind thank you sooo much natalie!! and yep wouldn't trade a thing for the journey.😊❤️
Looking forward to watching now!
Glad to hear you are feeling better and out and about with friends-sometimes the best medicine (and the beach doesn't hurt either). Love, Love love your channel. Thanks for keeping it real and being so darn inspirational!
awwww thank you so much for watching and commenting!! ❤️❤️❤️
Great video, I love the music❤️ I wish we could have seen the space now that the desk is moved out, maybe we could see in another video? Keep up all the hard work, your home is stunning
I’m showing it in another video this month on living room
Updates 💕🙏🏾
long time folower-my tip for paper is to scan the important documents. it's alot of work the first time you do it-but amazing afterwods!
for exemple-at this stage i scan onesa yeaer all my paparsalerys . i make a folder with the work place name and year and then scan files 1 to 12.
easey and fast. in my canttry i dont really need the original. when the need arrives i can allwes print it.
i store all of it in an small extornal memory card.
ps: sorry for the spelling-i'm not native english speaker.
this is a great method thank you esther such a gem!!xo
Always enjoy your vlogs. Went to thrift store today. Found 3 brand new tops with tags on. 6 tops will going to a friend. Thank you for your vlogs they keep me moving to get rid of things.
That is awesome! Thanks Linda!!❤️
You are so right about falling behind even for a few days. Catching up can be overwhelming.
Truly! xo
Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell. Happy to see you feeling better and getting sorted out again.
Thank you!❤️
Glad you are feeling better. Getting sick is a sure way for chores to get away from you!
So true! Thanks hun!!
This is life! Thanks for motivating me to pick up my space ❤️
thanks love!!❤️
Curious how you came up with the name Samson, love him!
He came with the name!! 😍 Got him when he was two
Another great video 💛
Could you open a new email account and get your dads bills etc switched to ebilling? And keep that email solely for dad things?
not really it is so much stuff that they don't do electronic only. we're talking about an 84 yo vet with a pension social security insurances medi-care mortgages home insurance property taxes pool guy gardener caregiver nurses med boxes dr bills policies investments taxes an estate and the list goes on and on and on.
@@TheCarlaProject Oh wow….
Love your videos like always... it is so nice to see your surroundings ...so beautiful 😁 I am just ruminating, that one reason that your mail keeps piling up could be that it triggers emotional pain because you are caring for your father... Our brain is designed to avoid pain, so we procrastinate.... A nice photo with you and your father to remind you of a nice memory could be worth a try, so that you collect the mail close to the photo frame
oh that is such a beautiful idea! love the deeper dive into what emotions are underneath the habit. thx love!❤️
Fantastic idea!
I constantly go over my accomplishments too!
gotta give ourselves credit!❤️
👋🏾🧡👍🏾
Congrats on the tick off long list😍😍
