I got this Miata and I don't know what to do...

- As usual, I find myself in the weirdest situations... I unexpectedly have a 1991 NA Mazda Miata sitting in my garage and I don't know what to do. Should I restore the Miata? Buy it? Sell it? Help me decide its fate...
I've always thought the NA MX-5's were cool little cars, but I never expected one to be in my garage. This is the famous pop-up headlight NA Miata with 151K Miles, the 1.6 Motor, Power steering and electric windows. Long (confusing) story short, this is an extended family members car that was acquired in a divorce. It sat for years under a tree and currently isn't in the best shape to sell. With the help of a friendly house squatter, the car is running...but she still doesn't want it. The car still needs a lot of TLC but I think it'll clean up well with my particular set of skills! I have too many cars as is, but this opportunity too good to pass up? It doesn't need to be gone immediately, so I do have some time with it!
The story behind this car is weird, and the exterior "accessories" make it even weirder. However, it does have some tasteful mods! Kosei K1's, Coilovers, Exhaust, Roll Bar, adjustable end links and more. It runs like a champ now, but doesn't look the part. So I think we need to start with the cleaning and restoration and go from there...

Keep it! it's a fun little car. You could probably fit a lift in your garage and just store it on a lift when you don't use it. I'd love to see what you'd do to the car.
My garage is too short for a lift unfortunately. Believe me, I’ve looked into it lol

Hard dog is the go to company for roll bars in the miata world. I’ve owned 3 and currently have one as my weekend cruiser. Started following you back when I had a 97 civic but still continue to love your videos. I definitely think a mini miata series would be sick especially the way you do your builds. Tons of OEM parts are still made for the first generation Miatas.
You NEED to save this thing. Driving one of these things hard will teach you so much and completely change your mindset on how a "good" car should drive. I had a 95 R Package back in 2005-2007 and it turned my world upside down with just how good these things are. Even if you just clean it up, replace the tires, and do a couple events with it, you need to experience it. They are such ridiculously fun cars to drive and so simple to maintain and modify. I never "like" videos but I did this one just because you gotta do it. PEER PRESSURE

@ALLDAYANTHONY I miss mine so much. My wife wants an NA but the prices are getting so high on them, I've been looking at NC's instead. You could clean that thing up and, if you get it cheap enough, make a pretty big profit on it on resale as it looks extremely clean under the grime.

With it being under a tree - check those rain rails and drains behind the fenders immediately - clean them and keep it clean so you don't get rust. Brilliant little cars, I love mine.

Ultimate Build:
1. Completely gut the vehicle of any mechanical/electrical wires/parts until you're at a bare metal chassis
2. Have the chassis dipped in acid to have a Perfect Chassis with 0 rust and 0 corrosion.
3. Primer and Paint the entire chassis using a unique color using a Color Wheel with Color Theory.
4. Plan for a v6/v8/v10 swap inside your car. Example: B58 inline-6/LS3 V8/S85 V10.
5. Rebuild your car exactly how you want from the ground up, new wiring harnesses, custom fabrication, etc.
6. As far as a goal goes, you can build this car for SEMA or a major car show event.

awesome find! I wouldn't sell it but instead let your lady go on trips with you in it. The Harddog race bar is a very high quality aftermarket product. A good detail and paint restoration would go a far way on the Miata and if you were so inclined you could even do a couple extra mods to it such as a NB (second generation) steering wheel and brakes. From the video it looks like you might have to replace your valve cover gasket and if you do end up doing that make sure you replace your CAS (camshaft angle sensor) O ring. It's located towards the back of the valve cover on the opposite side of your ignition coil. From what I've read a good set of copper ngk spark plugs and the blue ngk spark plug wires definitely help with keeping it running well. I don't think yours has the stock radiator that's made of plastic and explodes when it gets old, but don't quote me on it and go give it a tap or two and if it's brown or has stress marks on it look into a new radiator. As for headlights... LED's are cool but they have their tradeoffs in terms of not getting warm in inclement weather such as snow rain and fog. Other than that enjoy the car with the warmer weather coming up and I would love to see you try out some of your civic wheels on the miata as it's also the same lug pattern and just see how different fitments look on the civic and miata (the kosei k1's are a classic on both cars).

Def need to make some content out of this before you sell it. Like the civic, it's super relatable to people who have the platform as their first build so it'll cater to a good sized audience.
I would begin with a super cleaning it. Things gets clearer from there. And then make sure everything else is functional, focus on your other cars that’s closer to be finish according to your goals. One car at the time. Miata could bee the last one or an asset for sale later on.

if or when you detail it clean out the rockers !! the front fenders also hold alot of debris and the rear rockers u wanna clean those too or itll rust

These kinds of cars are perfect for me, They need some TLC but they're seemingly not rotted thru or wrecked in any way. Which is exactly how i like to get them.
Combined with me probably being a bit bias towards the first gen MX5, It's probably not all that fair for me to say you should keep it. Because i would for sure.
I'd clean it up, Fix the faults it has, Put a hard top on it as i don't really like convertibles but that's just a personal preference, And enjoy it from there on out.
I can however say, That i would love it if you decided to take in on, Or put it somewhere in the background until the time allows for it,
But at the end of the day, It's fully up to you.
