    The only way that Miata would have a clear coat is if it were repainted. Usually, you can tell a repaint 1) because there is a clearcoat or 2) because usually the black strip at the door sills is repainted over. This car still has that black strip. So I'm thinking this is the original paint.

    The thing that gets me everytime I see a Miata detail (especially an older one like this), is that the detailer never removes the seats! This is literally 4 bolts and possibly detaching a couple wire harnesses. With the seats removed, you can clean the entire carpet plus make the seat cleaning easier. How do I know? I do it for my own 1990! 😉 That said, it turned out pretty well.

    • @jaggerjdm9787
      @jaggerjdm9787 Год назад

      same can be said for any car tbh; theyre all just some bolts and a harness.

      Time constraints, budget.. it’s different when it’s a personal car compared to it being detailed by a business.. has to make sense for both client & us. Also it wasn’t bad underneath the seats so no need for the removal! I do get what you’re saying though!

    • @gatorcellman
      @gatorcellman Год назад

      @@precisiondetailersllc5592 Sure, that makes sense. I guess I’m coming from a different perspective. I’ve done it so many times it just takes me 5 minutes max to remove them and another 5 to put them back. Similarly, I’ve changed my oil so many times that from the time I set my ramps in front of the wheels, change the oil/filter, and put my ramps back, it’s about 30 minutes. Car really looked great though!!!

A second fun car that spent a lot of time in garage. Had to be a lazy or very busy SOB to let such a patina of dirt accumulate inside. Good for the business though!

      @@precisiondetailersllc5592 Merry christmas :). Honestly, I think I do. For an example might I suggest checking out the channel "Cutting Edge Engineering" - their earliest videos have some music playing and if you read the comments people suggested removing the music and actually adding more explanation of what they're doing. The channel gave it a go and evolved into what it is today - explanations of the work, commentary, and the noise of the job, with no music - and it blew up as a result. It's surprisingly entertaining and relaxing to just watch a professional work and get a window into their world. My humble opinion is that it's probably worth the experiment. Thanks again

    My friend, that paint is so thin cause it dosnt have clear coat... so there is only one layer, not two like witch clear coat. That is why you have more paint on modern cars, and of course you have similiar thickness of material you can work with like paint witch clear coat, for somebody who dont know, you cant go thru clear coat to the base color, that is a big problem.

    • @precisiondetailersllc5592
      @precisiondetailersllc5592  Год назад +1

      Hey Petr, yes you’re correct, this single stage paint is simply the basecoat(color) and clearcoat mixed together and applied at the same time. New cars are base coat then clear coat, so 2 separate steps.
      At the end you said you can’t go through clear coat to base coat, you absolutely can burn through clearcoat.

      For this we used Tire & Whitewall cleaner from Detail King. We dilute it 50/50. The trick to getting the rubber hoses/boots to look brand new is to use a tar remover on a towel after the engine is dry. It takes off all the brown gunk and it makes it look like fresh new rubber

    Much improved! For domestics up until the 80s single stage enamel was most common. Some foreign makers used lacquer especially British cars. Clear coat technology wasn’t great in the 70’s. Japanese through the 80’s might have used mostly SS enamels. My shops started using 2 stage urethanes as of 1982ish. Cost was high so most customers wouldn’t pay that much. We did 2 stage lacquer in California until the State mandated us to stop. It was for show cars and up to 10 layers. 4 base 6 clear. Lots of wet sanding.

    I never thought I'd be too poor for a real 90s JDM shitbox. But the Miata shows that even old slow cars can become pricelessly expensive. 🥲 I really hate growing up in that generation. Just when you start earning your money, houses and such small cars become too expensive.
