How did this sort of obscure 1970s regional hit of Chicago area end up in a blockbuster superhero movie? I have no idea but I love that it did. Grew up loving this magical tune, and Lake Shore Drive.
You can thank James Gunn for that. He has a way of bringing these obscure 70s hits into his movies and making them feel so appropriate for the moment they are used for. He has this incredible niche for bringing out emotion through musical cues in what are otherwise B-movie blockbusters. I think the GOTG films are the greatest things the MCU has ever given us
I am really happy this song has gotten some new attention. I am not sure I would call it an "obscure" regional hit. It was a HUGE regional hit. We heard it everywhere in the early 70s. It translated well to cruising along the lakefront in Milwaukee. ;) Loved the whole album. Skip Haynes did a series of RUclips videos about the making of LSD in the year before his death - just as the song was being heard again in the movie. See for example ruclips.net/video/T--FW-WWmB8/видео.html
The director grew up in Chicago. He said someday he would use this song in a movie when the right moment was needed. Made me cry. The song I grew up listening to on WLS on the big screen. What a moment.
For years -- I lived on the corner of Foster and Marine. My sister bought a race car set at a Goodwill for me for Christmas. She threw out the cars and the track. The speed controls she wrapped and told me, "These are for your windowsill. Make the red car go faster and make the taxi slow down." A perfect gift!
Name changed today. While Mr. DuSable DOES deserve honor, there are already bridges, buildings & parks w/ his name. THEY SHOULD HAVE LEFT LAKE SHORE DRIVE ALONE!!

Especially since Marvel is mainly associated with New York City and not Chicago is odd too lol.
This song, on the beach, with a full moon, and a pack lucky strikes. When life was simple
Love that bro. We jammed to this in Maya Beach in Thailand just like this.
When packs weren't at 11€ lmao

EVERYONE should run south on LSD once in their lives. I did many, many times in the 70's and on and still do it.
