I'm glad to see you are going to school after doing your time. I did my 6 years and just before getting out a RMCS asked what I was going to do when I got out. I told him I was going to college. I clearly remember him saying, "That's what everyone says they're going to do but no one ever does." I got through in just four years and missed the Dean's List by 0.01%. I don't know if senior was trying to motivate me but he sure did. Senior Chief O'Shaughnessy, I owe that man one but I think I'll have to pay it forward because that was a looooooooooooong time ago. Bravo Zulu and I wish you all the best shipmate.

Nice to meet you. I was an HM when I was in US Navy 20 years ago. I was with Seabee CMCB-7 and loved it. Have you thought about trying to change your rate from YN to HM? It would give you the opportunity to get training in the advanced "C" school for becoming a dental technician and maxillofacial prosthodontist later. And same as you, I wanted to just do 6 years for serving our country, get training and then using the GI Bill. My regret was losing the comradery of those I got to know for years. Just found your page today. Saw the other video from before, don't worry, didn't seem dramatic or embarrassing. Study hard, get your degree and see where you go. I'm an old fogey MMC that retired after 21 years and is in the SF Bay Area.
Are you in the Reserves or the FTS? i do not know if i heard it right you were mentioning pursuing a dental officer. You could had just PTS Convert to HM and go from there, i do not know how old are you but mostly officers commissioning has an age limit like 31 upon commissioning. So you need to stress out those NC about the goal you are going for because those packages do take time you have to do certain things in order to be considered. Not hating just saying, I am retired PO1 and its frustrating to see sailors missing the boat because they sat on their packages for too long.
It would take me too long to complete undergrad as active duty. Best bet for me right now is using my GI Bill while I’m “out” and then come back in once I commission with the dental corps. Thanks for the idea! 😊
