A friend of mines dad lived out of a '88 astro van for 16 years before he was able to afford a decent place to live ,unfortunately he is no longer an earthdweller, but he continued to drive an astro til the end , the last being a 2000.
Impressed by what you’ve done to the van! My parents had an ‘87 but it had a custom paint job which I scraped against the parking garage at Jr Prom! There’s some space in there, but not a whole lot and you’ve managed to get everything you need in there! Really enjoy your content!
You can get airside (past TSA) after midnight on the day of your departure. Airside at most airports have nice carpeting and it's a well known thing to sleep there as long as you are a ticketed passenger
None of the airports I go to allow you to check your bag more than 4 hours and go through TSA more than 2 hours prior to your departure. I fly through big airports tho, so that may be it.
many years ago I was a limo driver and the biggest challenge to napping in the car was people using their panic button to find their car...usually right as you start to drift off BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP
I just got a job with a major airline in SFO as a mechanic, I will be driving out there in my van from San Diego. Definitely sleeping in it until I stack enough money. Thanks for sharing.
The best thing for you is that they have a parking area for employees. We do here at IAH. My suggestion would be to park in the back and move around so you won't always be in the same parking spot. You'd be surprised at nosey cowkrs noticing what's not their business.
When I was a kid my parents and my brother and I would drive to our families vacation cabin on the Rio Grande in Los Lunas New Mexico from our home outside of St. Louis. It's a 14 hour drive so we would break it up and drive to OKC and spend the night in the back of our family station wagon in a Hospital Parking garage both ways because it was built in security. Good times.
What they think they know and what they can prove, are two very different things. 😅. I'd buy the panel van version of an Astro van and then install a metal partition and in front. Just let people knock and not get a reply.
@@GrantTravels23 If you're a panel van, partition or not, as a guard I'm gonna be 99.9% positive you're a camper unless you have company logos or some other indication of a rental or contract vehicle on the van. For the most part if you're not taking up customer parking and you're not destroying the parking lot we don't care. The mall I used to patrol had vehicle counts excluding Planet Fitness, so if you were to park in PF I wouldn't mind as long as you were deep at the back near the rd bc up close is for actual PF users & that mall had specific stats about customer parking. In general they expect the overnight vehicle count to be, at least for them, the Best Buy's vehicles, the security personnel's personal vehicle and that's it. All vehicle's license plates are recorded and, for the mall I worked at, 48 hrs present on the lot with no communication to security was a tow.
I love your van & that's the kind I wanted when I first started watching "Vanlife" on RUclips 8 yrs ago !!! I believe if your flying from an airport u should be ok to sleep in your van since your leaving it there!!!👍✌️
Great idea! I just got back from Spokane visiting my youngest daughter she drove me to Canada 🇨🇦 and Idaho very beautiful from Northern California be safe ❤
That's smart because airports are a hassel. and cheking in a luggage, things get lost, etc. Then you have to call the dumb 1-800 crap number so carry on is best! I do the same. :)
My Suitcase travels Freight 2 Weeks before I Fly so that I have Confirmation from My Hotel that My suitcase has arrived at least a week before Me. Then I’m simply a small Carryon Bag with basic travel essentials.
I’ve never done it but I decided next time I plan to leave car in lot for an early flight I’m going to try it.I live an hour from airport and if I have to get up at 4 I’d rather sleep in car. I haven’t checked a bag in many years.
I got it on Amazon actually! The brand is Rinlist I think (just generic I think). Not sure the size but if you look up “travel soft shell clamshell backpack” it should come up!
New subscriber and part time van lifer here. As far as airport parking, I’ve done the same thing. I always try to “tuck myself in” somewhere in a corner. If I can, I back in. I’ve done the same in hospital lots. Most important I think is prep your van for stealth before you leave. Once you park try to stay in the car. Yes, rest stops are the best. I try to park close to the truckers and say hello if I get a chance. They are great people! Some states are better than others. I use Allstays app to try and locate them when I travel. I just did 8 states so I know. Great channel.
@@strangedaysdiaries Love your setup! I can’t wait to travel and sleep in my van, I live in South Texas where it’s not possible without air conditioning, and it’s hard to be stealth with that 🙈😭😭🥹
Oh well then you would love where I live the interstate is my front yard and two access roads on each side of the interstate been here 10 years. Doesn't bother me a bit.
It seems that stealth camping means stealth. Your vehicle should not look like someone is inside. If you park in a place where other vehicles are parked, and you are stealth, nobody would know. An airport could be an expensive place to park unless you happen to be needing to park there anyway. It may not be very quiet at the airport, depending on the particular airport.

As a previous airport employee, I can assure you they knew you were there. They're just used to seeing literally everything happening in the garages.
Do they care because i want to do this for cold nights?
@@MsJonessssmost likely depends on the airport. I reckon bigger, busier airports would care less, but don’t quote me

Quiet a great setup u have going on, are there some showers at the airport? I would utilize them to avoid smelling a little raw on the plane.
Some paid airport lounges have shower facility but they may not be open that early.
