There has been at least a few cases in real life. For example, the Great Eastern Railway ran so-called "Jazz trains". They served north east suburbs of London, and were quite possibly the most hectic services in the entire country. A passenger train would arrive at the end of its service, and crews and workers usually had only ten minutes to serve a train and clear the platform (sometimes less), including having to change engines or run around trains. It was extremely important trains left on time, as any delays had a huge domino effect on following trains. There was apparently more than one case where a tank engine left the station without coaches. Sometimes it was caught quickly, but there was at least one case where it wasn't until the train made it to the next station that the crew noticed they left behind their train!
The Railway Series version of the story made more sense, and even Tug brought it up in his Thomas Debunked video. As confirmed by a track plan of Vicarstown(the big station used in the books), Thomas only got as far as the Yard Entrance. That signalbox he stopped at and realized the mistake, was the one for the Vicarstown station. Meaning he only traveled like a few meters or a mile.

The CGI series loves it's callback. Back when the Brenner era was in it's prime it was a treat seeing them happen. And yeah, if only we could turn back time.
40:50-41:08 I don't think it's really that strange though because Unscheduled Stops was 14 years later from Bulgy Rides Again, Thomas could've easily forgotten about Bulgy cause he never really knew him for any prolonged time at all, and Bulgy not being the most trustworthy of characters back in Season 3 was going to use shortcuts to gradually rid the engine race, and on his first day of plotting on the Little Western he was trying to get to the other side of Tidmouth's terminus before Duck until he found he wasn't big enough to fit under a bridge, and Thomas was one of the engines at the other side of the terminus when Duck reclaimed the passengers, and after Duck probably telling Thomas how troublesome Bulgy was doesn't that speak volumes for mistrust?

Strange that Season 5 didn’t have that much callbacks. It would’ve been interesting to have episodes recalling those episodes. Whether it’s Cranky’s first day at the docks being cranky and later got toppled by a tramp steamer, the engines having trouble with lorries, Gordon crashing through a station, James having trouble with a tree, Percy feeling put upon with too much work,Toad being a runaway train, Duncan getting spooked believing he saw a ghost train on the old iron bridge or the engines experience with a boulder. Plus it would’ve been cool to see Derek, Old Slow Coach, Bertram, or Old Bailey again as well as bring George back for an episode and give Thumper and episode and recall Rusty and the Boulder.
I have something to say about Oliver in Toad's Adventure, Maybe he doesnt mention Douglas being involved because he may be talking about when he escaped from the scrap yard BEFORE he was found by Douglas, remember when in the books he was moving through England to avoid being found by the diesels and scrapped by British Rail? Well, maybe in Toad's Adventure he is talking about that time and not when Douglas found him, and toad remembering may be just a TV addition
@@fanofeverything30465that could be, but Duncan was mentioned by a couple narrow gauge engines in season 16 even though he hadn’t returned to the series at that point.
It just dawned on me that the nitrogen era “down the mine” location is far more accurate than the one from season 23. That shouldn’t be shocking, but I thought it was worth noting how they look different.
Even if they were different canons, the events of the models series are clearly still canon to the cgi series. And yes, characters like BoCo, Duke, Stepney, Arthur, Murdoch and Molly still exist.
You missed the reference to Wrong Road in Tale of the Brave. After the cold open, Sir Topham Hatt states, “While they (Bill and Ben) may be better known for playing tricks on their fellow engines.” Gordon says, “You can say that again.” which referenced the point in Wrong Road when they tricked Gordon into thinking they were going to dump him in the sea because they made it seem as if they didn’t know that it was Gordon they were around.
It’s quite a shocker when you realize the CGI series was more consistent with lore than the model series. Like Rheneas was consistently in the background in season four when he should’ve been at the works being mended.
One that was missed for 'Thomas & Gordon' was when in SLOTLT, the narrator says "His fire had gone out, and there wasn't enough steam!" I really like this video! Honestly, I'm kind of a sucker for callbacks and references to past events since it shows that continuity exists. I was surprised to see that one from 'Percy & the Magic Carpet'. I also think that the "He could've bashed into some buffers" line was a reference to 'Thomas & the Trucks' since Gordon hits the buffers at Maron Station like Thomas did. If not, it was probably a reference to 'Thomas the Quarry Engine' where the same thing happens. Anyway, nice job, Tug!
What would've been better is actually seeing Douglas crush the Spiteful Brakevan being recreated. Seeing actual actions in motion so the consequences are more severe..
It’s insane how even though we got the narrow gauge engines in CGI, there were never any callbacks to them in season 4. I would’ve loved to see a CGI flashback of Gallant Old Engine
I must say, that's a great video of callbacks. Shows that model and CGI events are both in the same show thus same continuity regardless of differences.
Great video! It was so fun to revisit the CGI series! I hate to be that guy, but Hunt the Truck technically has 2 callbacks. The title itself is a reference to Mavis and Ben says “got to see a coach about a train”, referring to Ghost Train. Not sure if these fall under your “Little Engines can do Big Things” rule, but I thought I might mention them
18:12 Words can not express how much I loved this scene. The Troublesome Trucks song is probably my favorite song in the series next to “Accidents Will Happen”.

I really don't know why they couldn't have turned Henry back into his old shape in the Adventure Begins. It would've looked so cool and a great tribute to Season 1. It would've been so easy too. All they had to do was taper the firebox and remove the splashes. It would've only taken like 10 minutes.
Considering they had to twice the amount of movies than what they usually had to for a year, and that the other 2015 movie had a bunch of returnees they had to make models for, it's understandable that they would have to save time/money somewhere. Personally I would've sacrificed Alfie's return to get old shape Henry
@@fanofeverything30465I mean Alfie was like Jack's right hand man it only makes sense Especially since they wanted to bring back Oliver for the gag it'd be weird to not also have Alfie
God I am so chronically online on the thomas wiki because I know about basically all of these. The only one that I never put 2 and 2 together with was with Percy and the Magic Carpet
I find it funny how both versions of Thomas comes to Breakfast has him cause different levels of destruction. Model series Thomas: *crashes into the front of a house, causing thousands worth of property damage and twisting the front of his body* Cgi Thomas: *Pushes just his head into a wall, creating a hole in that could be easily be patched up in a few hours*
my headcanon for all the discrepancies between the cgi-era flashbacks and the actual episodes is that it’s either the engines misremembering some details, or the cgi series takes place in an alternate timeline and certain crashes/incidents are (to quote across the spiderverse) “canon events”
You forgot two references to Trouble in the Shed. In The Adventure Begins, Sir Topham Hatt says the engines will have to shunt their own trains until he can "get another small engine like Thomas," hinting at Percy's eventual arrival to Sodor. And in Season 19, Goodbye Sir Topham Hatt, the station master says "There's trouble in the shed."
A little surprised you forgot this, considering the amount of times that Emily Saves the World was mentioned at the end, but in that episode at the docks, Emily mentions drying off Sodor United’s sticky laundry.
That wasn’t a callback to the model series. All the callbacks done in this video was to the model series. The stinky laundry callback was to another episode in the CGI series.
There was a season 4 callback that you missed. It was from Steam Roller where the engines tease Sir Handel about his wheels which Peter Sam does in season 23's The Great Little Railway Show.
Personally I'd count that sequence on which ever Marvelous Machinery episode in season 24 as a callback to Thomas and the Jet Engine. Id also include what Peter Sam and Sir Handel say in The Great Little Railway Show.
Missing callback: I forget the episode title, but a "snowy" episode had some drivers & firemen standing around commenting on cocoa, a nod to the guys in the brake van in The Fyling Kipper.
It’s also a very anticlimactic one. What could’ve easily been a story where Rebecca’s wheelslip (an issue that Battle of Britain classes suffered from) causes trouble for her is nothing more than a series of poorly done CGI flashbacks and a story where Rebecca remains painfully stagnant.
Side note: Oliver not mentioning Douglas in his escape story is probably because as of season 18, the Scottish twins had not returned to CGI yet, not until SLOTLT and they rarely referenced non returning characters. Amazing vid btw!
Well since they referenced Duncan in season 16, I find it rather weird that they didn’t mention Douglas here, but as Tug said, maybe he was exaggerating about himself.
Well, Duncan was mentioned in season 16 and he hadn’t returned yet, so I don’t believe that’s a good reason for why Olivier never mentioned Douglas. I believe it’s, as Tugs said, he was exaggerating. He always sounds incredibly proud and pompous when retelling his escape.
@@JZJ7777 yeah that does make a lot of sense, I think they always planned for Duncan to return at the time but his IRL counterpart was out of service at the time so they never got its measurements for his CGI Model
Quite a lovely video and of course I always enjoyed when the CGI would reference the old. However I realize earlier you forgot the references made in season 24's great little Railway show about Peter Sam's special funnel and the events of steamroller. But other than that you're pretty much got everything else. Keep up the good work Tug.
Wow and people say at times that CGI isnt canon to the classic show. Tbh, I have forgotten some of these references in these episodes but does give a refresher and a quick memory.

I still think The Fat Controller standing idly by while everyone is pulling Henry out from the tunnel to which leads him making an excuse by claiming his doctor had forbidden him to both pull AND push is one of the funniest things from the Classic Series that I still laugh to this day just because of how the line and scenario was delivered perfectly in both the Narrative and CGI versions. 9:56
Such a shame that the adventure begins footage had to be pixelated, but it's always an pleasure to hear your opinions, Unlucky tug :) those flash backs really bring me back!
It always made me so happy they made call backs to the OG seasons
No one gonna talk about the fact that the Brenner Era did go back and recalled two HiT episodes?
Also, this could be a good source to mapping out the CGI Timeline of Thomas.
Joesph May is a good voice for Thomas and definitely love to see the backstories of CGI Thomas Episodes and Model Series Episodes
Tug's new iconic line "This is referred back to in, you guessed it, *Emily saves the world* "
The CGI series loves it's callback. Back when the Brenner era was in it's prime it was a treat seeing them happen.
And yeah, if only we could turn back time.
52:21 maybe someday, we could have another great comeback for Thomas. And who knows, maybe we could even get more callbacks to the model series then.
Take a shot every time Tug says "In this episode" or "in this one"
And you better do it with milkshakes.
@@s.p.d.magentaranger1822because you'd die if you did it with anything else. And even then
40:50-41:08 I don't think it's really that strange though because Unscheduled Stops was 14 years later from Bulgy Rides Again, Thomas could've easily forgotten about Bulgy cause he never really knew him for any prolonged time at all, and Bulgy not being the most trustworthy of characters back in Season 3 was going to use shortcuts to gradually rid the engine race, and on his first day of plotting on the Little Western he was trying to get to the other side of Tidmouth's terminus before Duck until he found he wasn't big enough to fit under a bridge, and Thomas was one of the engines at the other side of the terminus when Duck reclaimed the passengers, and after Duck probably telling Thomas how troublesome Bulgy was doesn't that speak volumes for mistrust?

Season 1 took a good 29 minutes huh?
@@pokemonacer it was definitely well deserved
That, and a part of his speech isn't audible because the narrator started talking, so it's also possible Douglas was mentioned in that part
Maybe he mentioned Douglas in universe We just don't hear it because Donald and Douglas hadn't returned to the series
i was curious about that too.
It’s possible, but I’m more keen to believe he never mentioned Douglas because he’s too full for his buffers.
@@fanofeverything30465that could be, but Duncan was mentioned by a couple narrow gauge engines in season 16 even though he hadn’t returned to the series at that point.
Nice to see that The Brenner Era was keen on so many call backs. They were sure keen to show fans they cared after years of HiT’s Writing Garbage.
It just dawned on me that the nitrogen era “down the mine” location is far more accurate than the one from season 23. That shouldn’t be shocking, but I thought it was worth noting how they look different.
What if they remade off the rails in cgi
44:21 I think it's come quite clear that Davey Moore's favorite episode might be Bulls Eyes.
49:50 Same writer? Probably a coincidence.
I like how this video can be used for everyone who believes in the separate timelines theory all of the episodes that are 100% canon to the cgi series
Im still gonna believe there the same timeline.
How the hell did you call to us before the video actually came out?

Seems like Emily Saves the World is just callback galore, and its great.
One that was missed for 'Thomas & Gordon' was when in SLOTLT, the narrator says "His fire had gone out, and there wasn't enough steam!"
I really like this video!
That doesn’t seem like a direct callback to Thomas and Gordon. That was just a quote from the episode, similar to the TATMR quotes.
Would love a video about the history of the Thomas Wooden Railway toys.
Those were my childhood.
29:10 "wouldn't that be nice?" Henry's face:
I would've LOVED to see them recreate Donald's signalbox incident in Breakvan! 😔 😟 🙁
What would've been better is actually seeing Douglas crush the Spiteful Brakevan being recreated. Seeing actual actions in motion so the consequences are more severe..
@@keatonendler8202speaking of… Scruffy being pulled apart would’ve been interesting to see in CGI.
I’m surprised Thomas and Bertie was never recreated
Me Too!
Good idea since Douglas mentioned abt it in Emily in the middle
Your analysis videos on the CGI era has opened me up to some hidden gems I had no idea about. This is nice by the way!
By now I've almost watched all the episodes he talked about in both videos.
It’s insane how even though we got the narrow gauge engines in CGI, there were never any callbacks to them in season 4. I would’ve loved to see a CGI flashback of Gallant Old Engine
Adventure Begins felt like a big love letter to the model fans
That is a heck of a lot of references during the CGI period.

@@KukaakWhy Alfie's return
@@fanofeverything30465I mean Alfie was like Jack's right hand man it only makes sense
Especially since they wanted to bring back Oliver for the gag it'd be weird to not also have Alfie
@@Gamebuilder2000 I'd have Judy and Jerome for old shape Henry
I'm surprised to have THAT many callbacks in the CGI Era. I do missed the Classic Model Series so much.
15:49 I love the suspense sound here.
"Hurry yourself" one of the best combacks thomas said
God I am so chronically online on the thomas wiki because I know about basically all of these.
The only one that I never put 2 and 2 together with was with Percy and the Magic Carpet
Same
So happy you used the Michael Angelis narrations. His voice is real nostalgic to me.
I find it funny how both versions of Thomas comes to Breakfast has him cause different levels of destruction.
Model series Thomas: *crashes into the front of a house, causing thousands worth of property damage and twisting the front of his body*
Cgi Thomas: *Pushes just his head into a wall, creating a hole in that could be easily be patched up in a few hours*
11:33 he was WHAT in the tunnel😭🙏
Bricked up inside a tunnel
my headcanon for all the discrepancies between the cgi-era flashbacks and the actual episodes is that it’s either the engines misremembering some details, or the cgi series takes place in an alternate timeline and certain crashes/incidents are (to quote across the spiderverse) “canon events”
I think the callback to Alicia Botti was referencing her first appearance in Season 6, Thomas, Percy and the squeak, not Magic carpet.😂
Gordon didn't get to pull Alicia Botti in Thomas, Percy, and the Squeak. Thomas was supposed to, but Percy ended up taking her instead.
@@Trainmaster16 Oh yeah sorry
@shiningtimeproductions4910 Don't worry about it. No need to apologize, I was just letting you know.
You didn’t mention steamroller in the great little railway show where Peter Sam references sir handles steam roller wheels
Its fascinating seeing all these callbacks!
Guess the cgi writers loved the model era episodes more than we thought lol.
That happened in the cgi series.
That wasn’t a callback to the model series. All the callbacks done in this video was to the model series. The stinky laundry callback was to another episode in the CGI series.
I wish , in blue mountain mystery, gorden recalls the events of the episode off the rails
There was a season 4 callback that you missed. It was from Steam Roller where the engines tease Sir Handel about his wheels which Peter Sam does in season 23's The Great Little Railway Show.
Edward in the adventure begins was kinda like father figure to Thomas i like that.
36:07 James in this scene fills me with joy for some reason
Personally I'd count that sequence on which ever Marvelous Machinery episode in season 24 as a callback to Thomas and the Jet Engine. Id also include what Peter Sam and Sir Handel say in The Great Little Railway Show.
Side note: Id count seasons 1-7 and 17-21 as one timeline and seasons 8-16 and 22-24 as another timeline.
32:03 wow,
they made Jack 🎉FUH-LAMING!!!!🎉
You forgot the Flying Kipper reference in King of the Railway. But anyways this was still aa great video.
Missing callback: I forget the episode title, but a "snowy" episode had some drivers & firemen standing around commenting on cocoa, a nod to the guys in the brake van in The Fyling Kipper.
@@VivianMakin I think it was Love Me Tender.
So what I'm hearing is "Chucklesome Trucks" is a nostalgic one.
Well at least this is one of underrated good parts about CGI
I think the callbacks in the adventure begins, took up about half of this video.
Well, it’s pretty obvious bc the special/movie literally recreated about half of the season though
In “Thomas and the Trucks”, it would have been good to include a reference to “Look out for the train” 😂
@@TCNat31yes, that’s true. That’s actually why he didn’t appear in Blue Mountain Mystery like originally intended.
They had SO many opportunities to recreate Thomas and Bertie's Great Race. 😂😂😂Easily could've done it all the way back in Thomas takes a Shortcut or even Unscheduled Stops for Heaven's sake! 😢😢😂😂
I was thinking the same thing
I have an hours drive home, and listening to this while I head out will easy the journey. Thanks tug!
I’m surprised Thomas and Bertie was never recreated in cgi
Yeah, Thomas and Bertie had so many episodes in CGI, they could've snuck in at least one reference
@@rustymidlander05 or a cgi recreated flashback
The “Thomas Come to Breakfast” one looks like a reference to a certain horror movie
“Heeeeeeere’s Thomas!”
Something I want to say is that another different is that in Thomas in the brakedown train, James we lifted on the track without his tender connected to him. In the adventure begins, he is lifted on the track with his tender connected to him.
Oh my gosh there are so many model series callbacks in the CGI Series and there’s also a few CGI Series callbacks in the CGI Series too.
Who knew they would reference TATMR like it’s officially canon.
