- It says "Load: 300 000 W. Saves 40% Power". Really? I decided to test another version of the popular Chinese Power Savers / Electricity saving boxes. This time it is the metal box version. Having no grounding, this means a risk of electric shock.

Yes, this is what I though. This could be a cost saving if you need this box, a fuse holder and a 3uF high voltage capacitor. ;-)
Judging from the audio shift, I can say that this device saves energy by slowing the time. That's why you can't measure it effectiveness.

240 volts, 300000 watts with a 5 amp fuse? I wonder what version of ohms law they were using to calculate that? A 5 amp fuse at 240 volts can only handle 1200 watts before blowing!

we made such "energy saving devices" in primary school. it consisted of an empty mains plug and a capacitor inside, connected in parallel with terminals. we did not actually bother about discharging resistor as the main use was to give shocks to fellow colleagues during the breaks.
I love that the PCB says 'oright,' as in "oh right, like this is gonna work."

Could this device be useful somewhat as a surge protector? If the voltage sags in your house momentarily due to inrush will the capacitor help keep the voltage constant by dampening it out? Seems like it could also work as a noise filter. If you have RFI or EMI on your wiring this should smooth it out also.
Probably it could. But it would need some PCB and electronic and many milli farad capacity and not only a few micro or nano farad.
Better throw this away and use a variac instead. ;) It's simple and more useful for surge protection
I doubt it. For high energy stuff, it's just not big enough. And for fast spikes there's a whole lot of inductance in the wiring.

Looks like the AC capacitor used in fans, they're usually 2.3-3 MF
Maybe it can change something if you have a smart meter, but I doubt it.

I'm french and now in France with "LINKY" the new electric power meter for residential installation, is now the apparent power that is measured (I don't now if its the same for the European Union), as the same for the industrial installations but since many years, that why french industry use some capacitors correctly calculated to reduce the reactive power, who cost much more!
You did not set up this device on a inductive load, normal light has not much to do with power factor, there for no saving in it, but if you put on a motor load certainly it should improve the power factor which helps to save bill.
2:08 I have the same deadly adapter but my father bought it from Japan. It's deadly probably because it don't have ground.
You can use this aluminium box as an external ssd usb device, you can put some usb card readers inside with 256gb each, put 4 of em inside and wire em up to a 4port usb hub, it should all fit nicely inside, would be awesome i think!

Heh. What a snake oil equipment. If that is cheap, I could buy those for DIY purposes. But as you told, it is metal and the socket is class 2 (double insulated) it is quite challenging to make it safe.

To je možné,tlumivka o něco více bručí. Ale kope s nevhodným odporem když sjsou na prodlužce a dotkneš se kolíků.That's possible,ballast is making a bit louder noise.But it can shock with badly selected discharge resistor and when it's whole on cord and touched.
Je zbytečnej pro uživatele v domácnosti - ta za indukční proud neplatí. Ale zbytečnej není pro rozvody a trafostanice, který jsou bez kondenzátoru přetěžovaný indukčním proudem. A zbytečnej není ani pro velkoodběratele, kteří za indukční proud platěj.
Brum tlumivky mi nevadí,a na trafech v Krasíkově (vidím z okna na PVE Dlouhé stráně :D)mi nezáleží:D To světlo mi vykompenzuje něčí condenzátorovej zdroj XD. A navíc-málokdo dnes používá ještě nějaké elektrosvit světla...A pokud jo,tak v nich má kondy.

There seems to be some audio desync, around 1 second ahead of the video. Cool video anyway, highly ironic it claims to be eu, but comes with a US plug.
It seems to be a progressive audio desync. It's OK at the beginning, but gets more and more out of sync later. Video seems to play a bit slower than audio. The file in my PC was playing OK. I don't know why this happens with some videos....

I saw resistors in that device. They are used to regulate the flow of electricity just incase the electric company produce more energy which is higher than the exact energy needed by an appliance. That device cannot not generate additional electricity, it can only allow the electric flow stabilize. The company will produce more energy in uncontrolled flow of electricity in houses which is not necessary in some appliances so that the electricity company will earn more income and may cause small damages to some of our appliances. It is somewhat like food that the waiter serve to a customer. However, the waiter will serve more foods which are higher than the number of foods the customer ordered and the customer have no choice but to pay that wrong number of servings. Though, in electricity, a resistor can handle that. It will help to serve a customer with a good number of servings that a customer really order. Other reasons why it is not effective is because of fake markets and abusive use of electricity. We have already resistors at home. We have two.

Just like the Smok m65, the circuit board was shoved into the box ungrounded. I was selling these and a few came back with a chip shorting out on the board and catching fire and they wouldn't refund me because it was on clearance. So I still have them sitting around.

There is nothing about energy saving in this device. Capacitor between phase and neutral can reduce reactive power for induction motors if capacity is properly balanced with motor inductance. Which can slightly reduce power bill for households who use appliances with induction motors like vacuum cleaners, HVAC etc. and have old type utility meters where reactive power became wrongly added to real power due to meter design. In households with newer utility meters reactive power is ignored and "power savers" will not "save" anything. Keep in mind that same capacitor for motors with various inductances will not work. So presented device here may be considered as scam.

I would buy it, gut it and use it as a project box. You can't buy a nicely extruded box, an AC socket and a fuse holder for $6.50.

Da sa to pouzit na kompenzaciu ucinnika, kde su induktivne zataze, ako motory alebo zvaracky a pod. Tam to setri energiu, odstrani jalovinu. Inac je to nanic, vacsina vyrobkov ma kompenzacne kondenzatory. Ono to dokonca moze zvysit odber, kde nie je indukcna zataz, takze v konecnom dosledku mozete platit o nieco viac, aj vdaka LED diode :)

To že má niečo kovový kryt, neznamená že to musí byť uzemnené. Ale každopádne pekná krabica, dala by sa použiť na nejaký napájací zdroj alebo ako odolnú nabíjačku z NTB :D
Ale tohle by určitě uzemněný bejt mělo :). Spoje na desce sou 1mm od krytu a ty dráty uvnitř nevím, jestli mají "dvojitou nebo zesílenou" izolaci.
Áno uznávam, komentár som písal skôr ako som videl tú dokonalú "zosilnenú" (vzduchovú) izoláciu :D

This device is design to use with power tools and microwave appliances they draw too many amps on the circuit to prevent power surges when you drop too many amps on the circuit so you do not blow your fuse in your fuse box or cause damage two other appliances plugged into the same line

Still not a proper North American plug. (I say North American because it's also used in Canada, Mexico, Caribbean and some other countries.) A proper North American plug has different size pins for live and neutral.
