    I live in Oregon USA and bought my ‘18 Breakout in Twisted Cherry a couple of years ago. Being brought up with motorcycles my entire 50+ years, I have to say this is my favorite of all bikes I’ve owned. Every bike I’ve owned left me looking at other bikes, but not this one. I plan to keep and ride this one for the rest of my riding life. I love seeing reviews that agree with my thoughts and feelings. Doesn’t happen to often these crazy days.

    I have a black 114 Breakout with Vance & Hines short shots. You are spot on with your review I love riding my bike. One thing I would say is I took the pillion pad off and went for ride with friends. As soon as I got home I put it back on my arms ached like hell. Without the rear seat I kept sliding sliding back when accelerating. At motorway speeds having the rear seat to push against takes the pressure off your arms from the wind.

      She is just amazing. I'll attach the link so you can see her. I've had her a week today. I've put about 300 miles on her and she feels great. I learned that the M8 only has one cam. The bike has more than enough power and feels stable at all speeds I've had her. I have to keep it below 4k rpms until the 1k mile mark and I take her in for the first fluid change and to have her properly tuned to open her up. I haven't had a bike in 14 years because I got custody of my son and raised him until he left for college. Now it's time for me. This bike puts a smile on my face every morning that I walk into my garage and see her. Thank you for a great video. I completely concur.

    Never even thought about a breakout. Then I saw this motorcycle on a website and I had to find out what it was because it just looked killer! It’s the breakout, surprise, surprise. Immediately started looking up reviews and your the second one I’ve watched and both have been marked by not only how surprised they were by the bikes handling and abilities but both reviews immediately said just how incredibly “fun” this bike is to ride! If I ever wanted anything from a motorcycle it is FUN! The main, main, reason I ride motorcycles is because they are freaking fun! Great review as usual.

    Great review. I've just (about a month ago) bought a 2014 Breakout 103. Supposedly harder still to handle than the 114 (I actually test drove a new one before opting for the 103). My other ride is a Honda SP1, so very used to chucking that around the corners. I've got to say it took a couple of weekends, but now I'm used to it I'm not having any issues, Its heavier and you can't lean over as far as the SP obviously, but you just adjust your riding to cope. This is my first foray into HD and I've got to say, I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Still get a massive grin on my face when I get on it and would recommend anyone out there to not be put off by the stories of woe around the Breakout's handling. I'm 6' 2" by the way and it's an amazingly comfortable ride. Ride safe all.....

      @@MrDarcy-OlMan in my experience naked and sport riders are the group most unwilling to adapt to any other style of bike. A long heavy bike with a fat rear tire takes some learning and skill, it's not "bad handling", it's just different. If I rode cruisers and choppers for years and jumped on a sport bike and did nothing but bash it for not being what I liked and was used to, I'd get crushed...I'm not sure why it doesn't work in the inverse.

    I really like this bike. It is very sexy and has fabulous curb appeal. I test drove this at the same time with the Fat Boy and it handles just fine. Don’t let the rake put you off (unless you want to do a turnaround on a single lane road).
    In the end... I opted for a silver Lowrider S. I’m extremely happy with my decision and feel the future for Harley is the Club Style scene.... and the FXLRS fits that for me.....the Breakout harks to the past.....fat rear tire and drag intentions. In the end....it still pulls at me and anyone would super stoked to own one.

    Great review!
    I started off on a Sportster and moved up to this and it was a perfect upgrade for me. I wanted a sixth gear and forward controls and this fit the bill at only about 100 lbs heavier but with a much bigger motor!
    I agree wholehearted that the factory pipes are quiet. I think they put very restrictive baffles to meet California requirements. But I upgraded to V&H pipes for better sound and looks.
    Also, I initially had problems with wide u-turns at slow speeds and at first I thought its all I could do with the larger rake and fat rear tire. But I found that because this bike has a low center of gravity, if you use more counterbalancing than you usually would on any other bike, you can tighten up those slow turns a lot! Granted, not a lot of available lean angle there, but enough to get it around better. Give it a shot!
    Great bike and great review. Cheers!

    If you buy a Breakout, then be sure to buy the extended warranty with road hazard coverage. I hit a pothole on my 2019 BO on US I80 expressway doing 85-mph, just west of Joliet Illinois, and bent the front 21” rim. I had to have the rim and both tires replaced. Without the road hazard warranty it would have cost close to $2,000.00 USD. Fortunately I always buy the H-D extended warranty so it was no charge, including delivering it 50-miles to my home. Brett Bowditch We prefer the Breakout because it seems easier to flick about, mainly because of the thinner front wheel, which makes the handling seem livelier, but also it has tremendous stability. The Fat Boy is great too, but is a little less nimble. Harley-Davidson are discontinuing the Breakout! so it’s now or never (unless buying used).

    Moin,
    thank you very much for your excellent review.
    What i like very much, is that the way you speak / your accent is good to understand for "not-native-speakers" like me (german). Thank you for that 👍
    Now lets get back to the bike: For me, the breakout is a modern construed style of a chopper and not really my cup of tea. The style is very close to some japanese bike models.....furthermore suitable for new, younger clients. Nothing for "older" f***ers like me (nearly 50 years old). But the problem is: Younger people cannot afford a bike like that. A big problem for the company: The traditional clients will dislike the newer models and "pass away", young people are not interested to ride a motorcycle or can't afford it.

    Hi, just wanted to say I loved your review of the Breakout and wanted to ask your opinion. I’ve predominantly been riding sports bikes, my current one is a Ducati 916 which I have enjoyed, but I’m looking to move on from them. I’m 5ft 8” and really like the look of the Breakout, but was wondering if I may be too short and I’m only an average build.

    • @MrDarcy-OlMan
      @MrDarcy-OlMan  4 года назад +1

      Rick Anderson Hi and thanks! The Softail Harley-Davidsons have a low seat height so from that respect ok. Reach wise, they are quite long, but you can get bars with a bit more pullback. Its the longest Harley, so you would probably be on full stretch. Maybe have a sit on one at your nearest dealership. Otherwise, the Street Bob has mid controls which may be better and you can lean the mini ape bars nearer to you.

    • @rickanderson2359

      MrDarcy & the Ol'Man Hi, thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated. You’re certainly right I’ll have give it a try, once lockdown is finally finished here in NZ. The low seat height is definitely important, and I certainly want to practical, no use having a bike you can’t safely ride hence the sportbikes have always suited me. I’m 50 now so that’s why I’m looking at moving onto the Harley.

      Both bikes take some manhandling but that’s their character.
      Breakout is immensely stable and flippin cool!
      Fat Boy is iconic and more nimble of the two

    Apparently this is similar of the VRod according to last week postings of comparison. If so, after owing four HD's this would be a thrill. Like the idea of less chrome. Nice but spend half a day to clean and polish. Not a fan to spend a cost to spray and spend nearly five bucks for cleaning chrome extensively but each of us have our quirps, yes. Still HD's are a bomb to ride even for only a period of time. As Deep Purple stated, "Long Live R & R" so I say Long Live HD.

      IMO the V-Rod (the later models with the 240 rear) is an easier bike to handle than the Breakout. I don't really know why, but it just doesn't take as much effort.

    i love them, i have the 2019, Note: factory front Tyre scary in the wet weather,just my opinion..but love the bike.Note: factory bike you need new pipes, new bars,and a tail tied kit,then good to go..

    So I’m looking to buy a bike for my 17th birthday, and this was one I was gonna buy, but would you guys consider this to be a good beginners bike?

    • @MrDarcy-OlMan
      @MrDarcy-OlMan  3 года назад +1

      What country are you in? You wouldn’t be able to get that here! As for suitability, not really. It’s a bike that needs a certain skill and experience level really. Not saying you couldn’t ride it, but not the best starter bike. An iron 883 would be a better choice

      I haven't ridden since the late eighties and those were dirt bikes. I picked this up a couple of months ago as my first street bike and I'm enjoying the hell out of it! Tight cornering is a bit tricky for beginners on this bike but once you're moving down the road it an absolute blast!
