The most amazing thing about Rodney is that he invented all of those tricks on a flat-ass board, no concave! Dude is incredible. My all time favorite skater, hands down.
The guy was so ahead of his time, it's unreal. I'm glad Rodney is getting the credit for what he's done for skating because his brand of genius and innovation is often ignored or wrongly credited to others.
The most impressive about RODNEY MULLEN is that he is a pioneer... AN ORIGINAL. nobody came before him to copy from. He just had the futuristic idea in him all the time. Clearly one of the GODS OF SKATE BOARDING. ✌️🤘🤙
Skateboarding will be an Olympic sport next year. This man invented more than half of what you will see in those competitions. Think about that for a minute.
Think about this: he was doing this over 35 yrs ago and guys today are still trying to learn his moves. This guy is what skating is today. And he was doing this over 35 yrs ago!!! The best skateboarder of all time.
I'm not even into skating, but I remember seeing this guy on gleaming the cube when I was like 7 and I got into skateboarding for a year because of this guy. He was from another planet good.
There was a time thought I was a pretty decent skater, maybe had potential to go pro one day. The first Mullen video I saw my stomach dropped because I realized I wasn't decent at all, but I was also completely blown away by what I was seeing. I remember thinking "How the fuck is he doing that, it's just a plank with wheels on it?" It didn't really look like a skateboard. Even if someone could do every trick he invented and ten more, they would never have the same consistency, or level of innovation he had. A legend for many reasons.
If you read the title you would see that it's the Bonus Footage. This is not the original release footage in the original video. It's extra bonus footage that was included with commentary. If you want to see the original footage from the video, you can find that elsewhere on RUclips.
Alexis Belzile that’s one of the things I love about the kings of skateboarding back then. They made it “cool” to wear the pads and helmet. In the original Bones Brigade Video Show it actually made it a point to zoom in on Lance Mountain padding up before skating a drained pool. Kids see it and follow suit. Can’t say the same these days though.
@@boosociety999 It's really stupid. Seeing people skate without _at least_ a helmet just makes me think it's just a matter of time before they crack their skull. Not wearing it doesn't make anyone look "cool," it just makes them look stupid.
@@9svm Even if it's rare to hit your head hard in street skating, even if it's just once in your life, that one freak time a helmet makes all the difference. I haven't skated since I was like 10, but since then I've seen a few terrible bails that would have been nothing if they just wore a helmet, but in stead landed them in the ER. Pointless and stupid. Sure while doing flatground tricks it's probably overkill unless you're a total newbie, but that's rarely what the kids are doing. Concrete is a lot harder than your head.
This guy is ageless. Im not a skater but I remember seeing a video of him skating in 2010's and i swear I thought I was watching a teenager the whole time. It never occurred to me it was mullen. I knew who mullen was But that was back in the 80s.
The badest man on the plant! It's because of this legend, We all skate on the platform, we do now. Without Rodney, their would be no you! Fucking legend 🙌
Why doesn't anyone do freestyle anymore? I'm sick of seeing the same "bangers" over and over again in street videos. It's soooo boring no matter how big the stair case is. Just doesn't matter. I've seen it 1000000000 times
Freestyle is alive and well. Tons of talented skaters worldwide. Braille Skateboarding just hosted the freestyle video world championship. Go to their channel and check out the competition. The top 10 pros will give you a good example of some of the best in the world.

What guy?
It doesn't matter how many Rodney Mullen videos I watch......mind blown EVERY TIME!
His consistency is what always amazed me about him, the most. It wasn't just the tricks. It's how few times he bailed during making them.
I cannot think of a single skater that changed the course of skating like Rodney.
A true genius.
tart green me
gonz
Dylan reider
Tony Hawk?...duh...
Nyjah huston

Even now in 2018 I haven't seen anyone doing all these tricks. Legendary skater.

He should hand out the medals
This man is an artist on 4 wheels. He is art in motion.

Rodney. One of or the Best skaters, EVER! . Every skateboarder owes this guy.
I'd go with "the best".
"One of" dude hes the best. Period.
He basically invented the modern version of it
I wanna as good as him someday.
1:21 That transition into the casper was nuts!
I'm a noob but I was certain to my bone that he couldn't get out of that with a trick and then he goes to a casper. Blew my mind.

Man, these "outtakes." I would have killed for this footage back in the day, when I'd already watched the official Mullen parts hundreds of times.
There are many Legends in the Skateboard World. But he is by far THE Legend.
One of my favorites of all time! A true legend.
A truly beautiful mind.
@1:25 imagine seeing a 360 nollie over a deck in 1983-4!
Even seeing it now is pretty god damn tremendous
Still impressive today
He did it so nicely
That's got to be the sexiest outfit I've ever seen in my life

@@boosociety999 Rodney wore pads because his parent made him. Except shin guards, he wore those

Ze Rubenator clearly youve never skated before. Just because you do or dont wear a helmet doesnt mean you will crack your skull automatically

'We' didn't tuck our shirts in Stacy, you did :D
PS game of Tony Hawk should have been named after Rodney
Yet they gave Rodney some of the worst stats in the game instead...
The godfather of skateboarding.
everybody had protection on....look at today...we are way to cool....
Maybe Rodney has a time machine!
This guy is from outer space.
Moonwalk to 360 to moonwalk wow

My godness
Rodney Mullen and Tony Hawk is the greatest skateboard innovators of all time
Rod Mullen, the skater we all wish we could be!
In the 80s competition video I saw the name Barnes came in 5th place. Would that be Reggie Barnes?
Yes.
@@80sFreestyle Thank you very much. Reggie is from Raleigh, NC. We skated together a lot in the late 70s. Wish I knew how to get in touch with him.
Michael Wood He is the president of Eastern Skateboard Supply. You could try contacting him there.
