I've been back to Brazil a bunch of times for a longer period of time and I feel like you captured PERFECTLYY the last days of each of my trip there. A mixed emotion of leaving the new routine behind, the new-found you, and the people from "real" life back in good old Europe start creeping back already to your reality. okkkk, im gonna leave this here - Damon, you seem to be getting finner and finner by the day - Saying your talented with languages is an understatement - The "shitty" camera for the streets perfectly matched the Rio vibe And now, the most important part. I remember thinking this already when I watched your video about your ex. Ive recently gone through the worst heartbreak of my life which made read a lot of books and watch waay to many videos on relationships, but more so attachment styles. I know its been hot topic for a minute and im no one to be throwing around statements or so. Buuut I feel like there is a lot truth in it and it can really help you understand your relationship dynamics better but more so yourself. I get the sense you have a tendency to avoid, runaway, and distract. One book puts its like this: "Avoidants are free to long for an ex once that person is unavailable out of the relationship". Again, my words here are not ill intended nor am I trying to "diagnose" here. Simply giving my 2 cents and hoping it can somehow be helpful. On another note, there is nothing braver that being vulnerable and honest about your feelings, especially with someone youve had such a strong bond with. the music scene thing is super interesting to me! I'm brazilian, and it's been very noticeable how much things changed ever since I was growing up here in the late 90s/early 2000s. Back then, Brazilians were 50/50 on foreign vs domestically produced songs, I reckon it's because of the chokehold that large foreign labels had on CD production, since they were the ones who called the shots on which artists could be sold and where. But with the explosive growth of RUclips and Spotify ever since 2014, labels lost a lot of power and the public began deciding for themselves which kinds of music appealed to them, and as a consequence foreign artists faced huge losses. Brazilians overwhelmingly listen to brazilian music nowadays, and lots of Top 40 artists in the US are relatively unknown by the larger public, even if they have a dedicated albeit small fanbase here, like for ex. Bad Bunny. Save for the occasional smash hits by Taylor, Beyoncé, and the like, our local Spotify Top 50 rarely has more than a handful of foreign songs at any given moment. I've been back to Brazil a bunch of times for a longer period of time and I feel like you captured PERFECTLYY the last days of each of my trip there. A mixed emotion of leaving the new routine behind, the new-found you, and the people from "real" life back in good old Europe start creeping back already to your reality. At times I felt guilty towards my new self for letting those things affect me already, but it's the beautiful duality of having two homes, multiple realities and such separate worlds in me that are somehow all connected. Thanks Damon so much for this video! This video definitely makes me want to book a one-month trip in Brazil, sing daily about amores que matam and receive unexpected yet expected whatsapp messages to be pondering about while I stare at nature for multiple hours at end.

So true what you said about becoming kind of bitter toward someone you like/love when you feel that sense of “rejection” from them moving on with someone else. I experienced that recently too, I had to block because I felt like he was playing with me and then went and found somebody he liked more. Lol. That’s not your case though, but I get it. We have irrational feelings sometimes, even if you didn’t give him the relationship he wanted, it still hurts to see him move on.
Sometimes time and distance is the best way to get out of the hurt feelings.

And now, the most important part. I remember thinking this already when I watched your video about your ex. Ive recently gone through the worst heartbreak of my life which made read a lot of books and watch waay to many videos on relationships, but more so attachment styles. I know its been hot topic for a minute and im no one to be throwing around statements or so. Buuut I feel like there is a lot truth in it and it can really help you understand your relationship dynamics better but more so yourself. I get the sense you have a tendency to avoid, runaway, and distract. One book puts its like this: "Avoidants are free to long for an ex once that person is unavailable out of the relationship". Again, my words here are not ill intended nor am I trying to "diagnose" here. Simply giving my 2 cents and hoping it can somehow be helpful. On another note, there is nothing braver that being vulnerable and honest about your feelings, especially with someone youve had such a strong bond with. I believe the regret of having done nothing at all will hurt more.

the music scene thing is super interesting to me! I'm brazilian, and it's been very noticeable how much things changed ever since I was growing up here in the late 90s/early 2000s. Back then, Brazilians were 50/50 on foreign vs domestically produced songs, I reckon it's because of the chokehold that large foreign labels had on CD production, since they were the ones who called the shots on which artists could be sold and where. But with the explosive growth of RUclips and Spotify ever since 2014, labels lost a lot of power and the public began deciding for themselves which kinds of music appealed to them, and as a consequence foreign artists faced huge losses. Brazilians overwhelmingly listen to brazilian music nowadays, and lots of Top 40 artists in the US are relatively unknown by the larger public, even if they have a dedicated albeit small fanbase here, like for ex. Bad Bunny. Save for the occasional smash hits by Taylor, Beyoncé, and the like, our local Spotify Top 50 rarely has more than a handful of foreign songs at any given moment. This rare insularity in turn provides ample support for a homegrown artist to find success and stable career without ever having to leave the country or appeal to foreign markets.
Edit: For comparison, on this day (15th of May 2024) there are only two foreign songs charting in Brazil's Spotify Top 50, at number 45 and 49, respectively. For France's Spotify Top 50, there are 12 non-francophone songs, with the highest charting at number 9.

i love you damon, but here is something you need to hear about your ex: it is not complicated and you are being immature. doesn't matter how much you loved each other, how long you've known each other, even if you still love each other... the simple truth is neither of you could give each other the relationship you wanted (and seems like you still cant). and so now your ex is trying to do the mature thing of moving on with his life. and what you're feeling is pure and simple jealousy. girl i've felt all these things before and it sucks horribly. reduce contact with him to a minimum and give it time.
