I never have a problem growing beautiful lush food plots. The problem i do have is getting the deer to eat it. I finally found out that if i wait until early october to plant cereal rye the deer will actually eat it. In the past I always planted cereals in late August early September and it grew to tall and the deer didn't touch it. Winter peas go largely untouched. August planted sunflowers are all gone within a month after planting. Absolute best fall attraction I have ever seen in 20 years of food plotting. The radish tops and chicory get hammered in october. Radish and turnip bulbs for some reason go largely untouched until early February. I hunt in mixed ag and hardwoods of south east minnesota. Do you think ag crops and acorns are the key factor in why the deer don't get on my brassica sooner? I plant them every year on a rotation but never have the deer feed much in them during deer season.
Hi there you guys do an amazing job of educating us all on food plotting I’m located in upstate ny and was wondering if it s to late in your option to drill winter rye my plots were amazing so I didn’t dare to drill it in earlier the deer have them eaten down pretty hard now and was wondering if it was to late thanks again for being real
Its great that you show us real world results by going out in the food plots. Thats what we want to see. Im in the Northeast and the deer are still in my clover. Its dropping to 23 tonight but for the next 12 days the average temps during the day is 42 ish. So im hoping the clover remains to keep the deer coming in.
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 will your clover, chicory blend work? I’ve used some of your products with great success so interested in doing more business with you. I’m in mid Michigan so pressure is a problem.
All my HD screen and Sweet feast and forage radishes did wonderful and the deer are destroying it! I will be buying more from you this year! Thanks for all the help with advice on planting!
Planted clover plus chickory with forage oats and rye the first weekend of august. Spread the rye and oats rototilled and dragged smooth. Then sread clover seed and lawn rolled plot. Had timely rain and by middle of September my oats had seed heads on them. Thankfully i saved some seed to layer some more in. Great products looking to get many years of use from clover.
My Northwoods Whitetail plots look great in North central WI as of 11/22. Clover kill plots lush (in some pretty bad soil) Sweet feast is full of softball size bulbs(tasty I had some for dinner last night😀) Fall forage overseeded with rye and radish still lush(planted a little too early oats seeded out) Just too many Acorns and no snow!! Keep the sandy soil help coming! I’m also planting in a sandbox in northern MN and the info you have already provided has helped greatly! Any Tips on utilizing the volunteer rye seed in late summer early fall in your content would be interesting to me😄 Happy thanksgiving!
Great video, thank you for the education! Funny you mentioned the leaves falling into the plots. All this past spring, summer, and fall, i diligently kept a 12' - 15' wide strip along the north and east woodedge of my 40 acres clear of weeds, debris, etc. with plans of frost-seeding switchgrass this winter for screening and border around foodplots. I was super excited because i had an awesome seedbed going. But then, I was heartbroken when I went out there a few weeks ago to find a 4" thick cover of leaves along the entire woodedge that would prevent any of the switchgrass seed from hitting the dirt. I actually took a day off of work and hand raked the leaves to expose the soil again. A lot of work, but hopefully will be worth it. After a year of growth, will the switch be robust enough to not be bothered by all of the leaves again next fall?
Do you still have RC big rock switch? Would like to order some for next season. Have cave and rock but it got hit by the farmers airplane sprayer, hurt it bad along with part of my HD screen. Foxtail is a big problem in my switch also.
Thanks! I have a 2 strip in my plot of your sweet feast brassicas along with fall forage blend and seclusion 360 with a few radishes in my woods kill plots. They all look great. The seclusion was hit hard by deer in sept ,early oct. The fall forage blend is being hit now and the brassicas will be hit in dec/jan. They all grew great and exceeded my expectations! The only thing that didn't grow was the HD screen so I'll try that again next year.
I am looking to screen my food plot from the road. What would you recommend? I am just outside Buffalo, NY. During deer season my road gets heavy pressure due to large amounts of state land in close proximity. I get deer movement across the road where there is a lot of apple trees on a neighbors property also.
No rain really hurt getting much growth but clover/chicory is really green now. Does it keep growing when significantly above freezing? Hard to tell..lots of mouths I think. Some are rabbits. :)
I have a 1.3 acre brassica radish clover rye wheat oat plot. Planted the brassica clovers and radish in early august then overseeded with rye wheat and oats in early September. The brassicas and radish were completely gone by the third week of October. Would I be better off doing all rye wheat and oats? Thoughts? South western PA
What do you recommend planting in the spring in heavy clay soils. Southern IN depending on how wet spring is sometimes it’s late by the time I can get on the fields? I am in all flat low ground surrounded by wetland area.
@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 I plan to add more areas both open and in the woods. The spot has been an experiment for the last two years. With what I've learned from my failures and watching your videos, it's time to expand my plots.
do you have a target date for the clover and chicory mix? I like to get my ordering done as early as possible to avoid the spring rush. Thanks for your time.@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663
John, curious about the population of A=oaks in your are, imagine it is low. We are seeing the deer just keyed in on acorns in our area. Hardly have touched my plots. I will have food for them all winter
Your clover-chicory blend in north central PA is grazed down, but still green. Will continue to use in my plots. Great seed mix.
Yep
We are adding it to all

Heavy mast and ag can keep some off plots for a while

Yep great blend
Nice to hear from you again Jon keep um coming. Thanks

Thanks for the video. Not enough food plotter’s actually show how the food plot turns out. Loved it
Gotta keep it real….
Thank you so much for putting this video together for our benefit. Love all you do.
What do you recommend for houghton muck ground? Very fertile but can be wet for quite a while in the spring.
Wet ground clover
Or just fall annuals

Want to do a small kill plot thats in the woods before they go to the main food plot. What Clover would you recommend
Depends on soil type
Good soil. Cleared out a small quarter acer .
Seclusion 360
Can you clarify how big this plot is? Great video- thanks for putting it out 👍
5/8 acre
John, my plot with your sweet feast brassica blend is looking good. Next year I’ll add chicory. What time of year do you plant Chicory?
Spring or August
Great video.
Thanks!

So you were saying your screen was planted to many years in a row. Why do you say that? And what other options are available?
We like to see it moved after 2-3 years.
I am planting 5-6 years in a row in the same spot to see how growth is.
I have brassica rye wheat clove tillage radishes clover chicory mix big bulbs deer haven't touched the brassicas they pass threw late at night😊
Probably soon

Dec 1st
Nov.15 and my plots are chewed to the dirt. The deer have left town.
What all was planted
How big

Hd screen is a good start
Then possibly switch grass inside or out side of that
HD screen worked very well at my properties.
Way better than expected considering the dry summer here in Indiana.

Yes
Above 40 and it will still grow

I really think 3 separate strips like we show

Annual or perennial
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 either i usually plant some of both. I always have clovers out

Soil builders or buckwheat work well
If you need summer food
More clovers
I’m in central Virginia one 7b. When should I plant your screen?
Late may soil temp should be. 65-70 degrees
Thank you. I will place my order before then.
Love the 3 strip idea. I was wondering if you ship your seed mix into Ontario, Canada.
Working on it
Thanks
This year is the first time that i have heard of Kale for a food plot, what are your thoughts? Has anyone tried carrots?
Carrots take too long and there are much better options like sugar beets or rutabaga
All my clover plots are grazed to the ground.
Can you add more space

On this 3 strip
Yes
What is sunlight min requirement for clover/chicory?
