  • How my ship with a draft of 8ft got towed over the 6ft deep sandbank.
I had heard many good stories about the Rio dulce over the years, which had made me very curious. I knew however that my vessels draft would not make it possible to enter the river. Getting closer to Guatemala I started meeting people who had visited Rio Dulce. They told me that there are professionals who help large ships enter the Rio Dulce throughout the entire year. After contacting agents and marinas I was convinced that my draft and a UKC of -2ft would be no problem at all. The plan was to enter the river by the help of other boats. Even though I was still very nervous I had decided to go for it. Was that a good idea?

Saw you're arrival on the "Sophisticated Lady" you have done some work on her since-- Your aground which reminded me of when my dad and his brother grounded the 35 Bristol in the inland water way going to Miami-- so don't feel bad My uncle was Captian of the Yorktown back in the day

Is this a separate grounding than the one that Sophisticated Lady helped with?

I'm surprised they don't dig a deeper channel so it would be easier to get boats in and out

This happened to me once! I put all the sails up high, hunted the master's boom and the genoa to trim the sailboat and started the engine. I managed to leave without help!
