as a 90s skater that got old and fell out of the scene, i haven't kept up with modern skateboarding. so i don't know much about him. what i've seen though, he's an amazing skater. but he's also corporate and clean. i don't know where the vibe of the community is today, but in the 90s there was always an undertone of anarchist ideology with skateboarding. it wasn't anti business, but it was very anti large all consuming corporation. it was a diy scene where companies were staying starting out of garages. where ceo's were skaters just trying to give their pros enough money to live a decent life. then shit blew up and skaters started getting rich, which most of us were cool with. we wanted skaters to be successful. the first time i saw nikes sb in skate shops my heart dropped. it was a sign. nyjah represents everything we hated i'm 50/50 on one hand i'm now a libertarian and still hold anarchist beliefs. so part of me doesn't care. do what you want, it's your life. the other side of me hates conglomerate monopolies, corporations so large that neocolonialism is engrained in their business models, and nike is part of a conglomerate monopoly. they also engage in neocolonialism with their manufacturing in the global south. it's natural for a skater taking their money to be hated.
I’ve meet Nyjah at my local park during a contest through zumies Jaws was there, nyjah and a few others. Jaws and nyjah were the chillest people, both were humble as hell and hung out with all of us just chilling even got a picture with jaws lol
Skaters and money is a weird thing. If you worked at a bowling alley to support your skateboard habit, nobody cares. But if you rode for a truck or a shoe company that people thought was whack, yet you got to skate board full-time because they paid you well, people with clown you. It's so stupid.
@@sole__doubt indeed all jealousy and hate if no one can appreciate the technical talent of a nyjah Houston. i skateboarded and bmx'd since 1998 and I see his talent.
In any other sport, Nyjah would be a normal super star... Using his fame in his limited time in his sport to boost his income. However, since skateboarding is a counterculture/rebellious kind of culture. Supporting a large mainstream brand like Nike hurt his reputation in the skate community. Despite this, I think Nyjah is the best competitive street skater to ever live.
"Supporting a large mainstream brand like Nike hurt his reputation in the skate community." Shane O'Neill gets zero hate, as does almost everyone else on Nike. They have a big team.
The premise of this video shines a light on how corny skate fans are more than anything. Of every single offense he is accused of and hated on for in this video, not a single one is legitimate in terms of skateboarding. Skateboarding as in what one does on a skateboard. Dude is one of if not the greatest of all time based on SKILLS. Skateboarding has been trick based for over 30 years and he does clean and powerful NBDs on the heaviest street spots and lands them perfectly. No flailing arms, no bow-legged stances...pretty much as good a style as is possible for that type of skating. He can pull massive, unmatched hammers out in contests under the highest-pressure situations. He is landing tricks (bolts) in this video from when he was a little kid that only a few people can do today. Sellout? Are you f*^&king crazy? More like Sell In! Dude earned every penny he ever earned and deserves everything he has and more. He has a hell of a lot to celebrate about. Again skateboarding in reality is about what you can do on the board, yet people hate on him for being too good, his fits, and being successful. Think about that for a second.
It’s no denying he has amazing skill & to see him do it in action is an experience but how he is as a person is where the hate stems from. It’s like how Patrick Bateman is adored by many but is hated as a person type 💩
Not everyone has to automatically like Him because He's supposedly the goat which imo is ridiculous. Not every Skater cares about Contest wins. He has the style and personality of a robot while being the poster boy for Corporate Shill Jock type Skater.
@@ogvelociraptor205 Agree, not everyone has to like dude. But what he does on a skateboard cannot be denied and is unmatched. That has nothing to do with contests, personality, look or corporate connections. As for style on a board he pulls the craziest hammers smooth as silk.
He’s a really good skater and when you’re really good more people are going to hate that’s just how it goes with fame unfortunately. Everyone who hates him just wishes they could be him living that crazy lifestyle. I still remember playing him on Tony Hawk Proving grounds when he was a kid in the game! You have to give credit where it’s due and honestly the hate is uncalled for. He’s clearly a nice guy and worked hard to be where he is today.
Always loved his style, since he was old and strong enough for the Pop, it just went insane.. the huge Pop, the catch height and style of his tricks, the variety of Tricks - doesnt matter if regular fooded or switch, it was always a pleasure to see him skate He does the most insane sheit and let it Look like its easy, doesnt matter how Hard and often he bailed before envy is strong in this World, cant imagine why you would hate on somebody like him
This video was made well, but the title of this video is very misleading i find, and the whole take on this is also VERY late as well. Most skaters i know personally respect Nyjah and like his skating! He just lacks relatability for his skill and lifestyle. If people hate on him for that well, the popularity OUTWEIGHS the hate he gets. I never hear anyone hating on him anymore
The problem is that style matters, skateboarding used to be cool as fuck. Now people are making it look lame, Nyjah's style of skating is no doubt insanely clean but it's almost too sterile and formulaic, sometimes you gotta get crazy with it. People like Jamie Thomas understood this, sometimes you gotta do something crazy. Bam Margera yeeting himself off a sign or a rooftop, might not be the cleanest trick ever but at the same time nobody else wanted to try some of those spots and that made skateboarding legendary.
If Nyjah wins gold then this argument makes sense but he didn't he got Bronze which is basically a participation trophy. It should be a no-brainer that America can win Gold in Skateboarding but we keep sending Nyjah and he keeps screwing it up.
don’t know what the comments are about, a lot of the skate community dislikes nyjah, however you can’t deny the fact he’s an excellent skater, i think most skaters dislike his popularity and how he acts like a celebrity more than a “core skater”
Im older then Nyjah. Was skating when he was a kid and been following him since. He rips! I dont skate now but i buy his shoes and still watch him. Stop hating on my guy!
Haha two days ago you thought Nyjah was the most hated skater? Have you heard of Aaron Kyro? The most viewed skater of all time now has millions of people hating him and thousands leaving hate comments daily.
It’s just jealousy. Fans and athletes hate a champion that stays there year after year. They love you on the rise but hate you at the top. What they really mean by they hate to watch him skate is they hate how easy he makes it look. I love how ecstatically grateful he makes it look. It’s like watching prime Ali boxing or MJ dominating in basketball. They all had their movements down to a science.
Debatable goat, what? Have you not heard of Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk or Stacy Peralta? Take away any 3 of them and skateboarding is either dead or drastically worse and less technical.
I've been a fan from the very beginning, clearly I'll never be able to have his level of skating, so I respect him a lot, I met him in Miami and he seemed like a very good person, after a few words we took a photo for the memory, I think people criticize him out of envy of his talent and lifestyle
Allegations with "very little proof"? Lmao ok... China Ferguson, a very respected pro who's been in the skate industry for 10 years, said on The Bunt Podcast that he's heard and known people who have seen the video of the SA incident. Also, Chase Webb just happened to disappear from skating after being involved in the SA incident because nothing happened? Or maybe was it because he was the scapegoat to protect Nyjah? Nike wanted to protect their golden goose of skateboarding.
How he treats people is why I stopped being a fan & that was hearing about it at my local skatepark. He came up there once and acted like he owned the place.
"Allegations with "very little proof"? Lmao ok..." …and then you proceed to give NO proof. Do you know what proof means? I am NOT saying Nyjah is definitely innocent, I am criticising your comment.
I grew up in Northern California , I remember dating a girl from Davis , who used to tell me , a pro skateboarder lived down the street from her . When I found out it was Nyjah , I was blown away . I still remember frontline skatepark in woodland , it turned private once he was getting really good . Nothing but respect for dude and his passion for skateboarding . It truly has brought him a long way , the hate is irrelevant . Let that talent speak for itself.
hate? there is no hate, just jealousy. the skill is undeniable and nobody talks about a NBA star selling out. This is the problem in skateboarding. Professional skateboarding is not the same as just doing for fun. These guys sacrifice everything for this, drop out of school abd completely focus on skateboarding to earn a living. So why judge someone that loves skating and makes a shitton of money. And we should not forget that most skateboarders can't and won't do what this guy is capable of
i'd say his dad made the ultimate decision for his family. He could have done certain things differently but at the end of the day his whole family is able to benefit from it.
I worked at a taco truck, we were hired to make tacos at a small skate event at Nyjahs skatepark! He never came to grabbed tacos, never said hello, someone actually grabbed tacos for him, didn’t even shout us out or anything lol that’s why I didn’t care much for him after that!
It sounds like to me his dad was getting frustrated because he wanted to finish something he wasn’t able to while trying to build a foundation for nyjah I completely understand why he was trying to start their own brand
I grew up in a nice neighborhood, but he lived 5 doors down, he had a few 16-17 year old girls from my high school always at his pad, he was in his late 20s at the time
It's called jealousy. Man is an all out monster on a board. Haters gonna hate what they can't achieve. The fact that he's never won SOTY when he's by far the best skater in the world says it all.
Shout out to his dad! He gave the best gift a father can give a son something to love and he made millions! His dad kept him in tip top shape in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 because he came back and dominated like never left stay ready was his dads motto more sure!
Dude rips, most other respected pros say the same thing. He did exactly what he should have done and cashed in on his skills. Idk what haters are talking about, he has a great style and the balls to back it up. I was already skating for many years by the time he came on the scene and I was impressed right from the beginning. He definitely deserved his podium spot at the olympics. Its dumb to say contests are for sell outs, it’s still skateboarding at a high consistent level. Many of the “skaters skaters” that kill it would have loved to be in the olympics. No one rags on Foy for entering contests. Which he rips too. Also crazy that Nyjah hasn’t won SODY.
I remember watching Nyjah in SLS. He was amazing, but eventually it did get a little old watching him win often. The age of Nyjah was incredible to see such young raw talent but it’s great to see new blood emerging on the scene.
Yeah, I don't even know why I clicked on this. Just like other people have commented. 3-4 years too late. He's NOT hated at all anymore. I've watched this dude go from a little kid to AMAZING pro, pushing the boundaries of what's even possible on a skateboard. This type of shit is why the skateboarding industry is completely in the toilet right now. He doesn't skate for any outlandish sponsors. He makes bank. So let's hate? Lame....
Nyjah is skateboarding. Skateboarding is Nyjah. The guy is following his dharma to the T. He deserves all the enjoyment of fame and fortune do to his incredible skill and work ethic.
YOULL NEVER GET HATED FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING BETTER THAN YOU. LOOK AT THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE AN OPINION. JUST LOOK AT THEM AND THEIR SITUATION. IF YOU HAVE AN OPINION, LOOK AT YOURSELF. NYJAH AND ALL OTHER SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE REALLY DONT CARE WHAT YOU SAY. SO WHEN YOU GO ON HERE AND HATE, JUST LOOK AT YOURSELF AND ASK YOURSELF WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE. ARE YOU THAT DUDE THAT SKATES FOR NO MONEY?
All these freaking haters!!! It’s actually more beneficial for the audience to have a great skater taking it to another level. In turn people naturally want to challenge that and be better. Life is a competition. It’s the lazy or very envious type who see things negatively. People and media will always hate. Just like they hate on Andy Anderson because he wears a helmet to protect his brain. But the dude is probably the best and way underrated. Check him out.
People just hate other people's success. The dude has done the hard work and is reaping the rewards. I think some people just hop on the hate train because they want to feel included but as they get older they realize that the dude is actually a legend in the scene.
Imagine being so brain washed that you can’t appreciate a single man’s tricks and you get bored, if you don’t like his style then go watch someone else, all these people making these claims like
Nobody wants a coach lingering over your shoulder at all times. Skateboarding is about creative freedom not winning. Knowing his background and how suppressed his childhood was, it makes sense he became obsessed with being into all the flashy cars and mansions literally to become the opposite of how he was raised bc he was denied a normal childhood

I don't know how he is in his private life but I don't think you can hate on his skating unless you're jealous. with such a dad there's no wonder you get issues, specially when all of a sudden you can have everything that has been demonized and been hidden from you at an instant.
"The more you win, the more people are gonna hate you." I honestly don't know why people hate this guy, I've not been following him since the very beginning, but have been a fan for a good 8 years. Hate never even occured to me, everytime I see him skate my jaw just drops. Huge respect to him man.
it always annoyed me that this always boils down to "hes richer than me", hating on skaters for "selling out" always felt dumb and pointless, so why do we idolise tony hawk but hate any other succesful skater who makes themselves a household name, its not even "selling out" its "financial security"
Tony sells out and acts famous everyone loves him.
Nyjah sells out and acts famous then he's not "acting like a core skater"
@@shawnndixon5254 EXATLY, nowt wrong with selling out if your financially struggling and want a bit of security in your future
@@kevinmorricetbf, for years Tony was shit on and ostracized by others in the skate community for.. “selling out”. I’ll still see stupidass comments on YT from people saying that here and there.
Tony hawk got his fair share of hate, if you don’t know why you probably don’t skate. If there’s 1 thing skaters do respect, it is seeing someone achieve a high level of skill and style while remaining humble. Nijah got lost in the fame and fortune, a far cry from financial security. Bottom line is, he’s not exactly hated, he’s just not as admired and respected as he could have been.
@@lawrencevick1530 been skating 25 years, people only cared about tony hawks after he sold out because he got lucky and hut a gold mine with pro skater, imagine if it was steve caballero or rodney mullen that got the video game, they could be the biggest name
skaters don't hate Nyjah, haters hate Nyjah. trying to ride the Olympic click bate wave I see. hope you make a few bucks.
Nyjah is the kobe of skateboarding..he deserves everything he gets I been watching him since he Rode for element I seen his struggle and Rise 💯
The only people hating are the ones that don’t like to do the work. Bro is the best street skater of this generation.
Best street skater of ALL time..
Nyjah is the Goat man let's be real..for now anyways
@@Rey-yw3ry Not even. I just watched some Thrasher vids that were WAY BETTER than any of Nijahs shit. & that's a FACT.
No hes not. Hes a skatepark kid. Im not taking anything from him abilities he is great. But greatness is Koston. Marc johnson guy mariano. You have to take the all around big picture.
@@craymosstheater3999I grew up in Philly. That shit is amazing for skating. Matt reason in 90.s thats street. Oyola too. Nyjahs a park All around and his greatness Eric koston is the Goat
@@Rey-yw3ry RODNEY MULLEN WOULD LIKE A WORD. Koston has some great lines too tbh
All the dudes hating on nyjah are just jealous cause they never got rich off skateboarding 😮
as a 90s skater that got old and fell out of the scene, i haven't kept up with modern skateboarding. so i don't know much about him. what i've seen though, he's an amazing skater. but he's also corporate and clean.
i don't know where the vibe of the community is today, but in the 90s there was always an undertone of anarchist ideology with skateboarding. it wasn't anti business, but it was very anti large all consuming corporation. it was a diy scene where companies were staying starting out of garages. where ceo's were skaters just trying to give their pros enough money to live a decent life. then shit blew up and skaters started getting rich, which most of us were cool with. we wanted skaters to be successful.
the first time i saw nikes sb in skate shops my heart dropped. it was a sign. nyjah represents everything we hated
i'm 50/50
on one hand i'm now a libertarian and still hold anarchist beliefs. so part of me doesn't care. do what you want, it's your life. the other side of me hates conglomerate monopolies, corporations so large that neocolonialism is engrained in their business models, and nike is part of a conglomerate monopoly. they also engage in neocolonialism with their manufacturing in the global south. it's natural for a skater taking their money to be hated.
I’ve meet Nyjah at my local park during a contest through zumies
Jaws was there, nyjah and a few others. Jaws and nyjah were the chillest people, both were humble as hell and hung out with all of us just chilling even got a picture with jaws lol
zumies...
You cant sell out if no ones wants to buy in. Its an honor to have the opportunity to "sell out."
The sellouts are the reason skaters can be millionaires now.
Skaters and money is a weird thing. If you worked at a bowling alley to support your skateboard habit, nobody cares. But if you rode for a truck or a shoe company that people thought was whack, yet you got to skate board full-time because they paid you well, people with clown you. It's so stupid.
@@jasondashney Its all jealousy really.
@@sole__doubt indeed all jealousy and hate if no one can appreciate the technical talent of a nyjah Houston. i skateboarded and bmx'd since 1998 and I see his talent.
That's just ignoring the true connotation of a sell out...that they did something low or out of character In exchange for something
We skate to defy gravity, to sorta fly through the air, being able to trick out like a lot of people can't, skating brings me a feeling of freedom 🛹🫶🏻
Stop the hate.
Anyone who hates on the guy is secretly jealous of his success
That's exactly what it is. I think his preppy dressing people hate but there just jealous
Lewis Hamilton from formula one is similar with his flashy clothing
Best answer so far
Skaters hate everybody
Always the case for those at the top.
I got my board signed by Nyjah Huston in 2016 during the Hartline at my Home town of Detroit. Greatest Day of my life!
Didn't know Nyjah was Michael Jackson of skateboarding. I understand him better now.
MJ touched children.
I’m almost 6:00 in with nothing about skateboarders “hate Nyjah”.
Always loved his style, since he was old and strong enough for the Pop, it just went insane.. the huge Pop, the catch height and style of his tricks, the variety of Tricks - doesnt matter if regular fooded or switch, it was always a pleasure to see him skate
He does the most insane sheit and let it Look like its easy, doesnt matter how Hard and often he bailed before
envy is strong in this World, cant imagine why you would hate on somebody like him
This video was made well, but the title of this video is very misleading i find, and the whole take on this is also VERY late as well.
I'm 28, Nyjah was a kid when i watched his part in elementality, he's a legend
It's not easy to accomplish what Nyjah has accomplished.
But it's Hella easy for a hater to talk smack.
If Nyjah wins gold then this argument makes sense but he didn't he got Bronze which is basically a participation trophy. It should be a no-brainer that America can win Gold in Skateboarding but we keep sending Nyjah and he keeps screwing it up.
So everyone doesn’t like him because hes so much better than they are. Got it
don’t know what the comments are about, a lot of the skate community dislikes nyjah, however you can’t deny the fact he’s an excellent skater, i think most skaters dislike his popularity and how he acts like a celebrity more than a “core skater”
The people who don’t understand the hate don’t really skate or haven’t been around to know what Nyjah was like as he got older in the skate industry.
The most viewed skater of all time now has millions of people hating him and thousands leaving hate comments daily.
thats because he lied the entire time. joined and recuited other into scientology. and bailed.
Most of us don't even consider Aaron Kyro to be a "skateboarder"...
@@the43rdparallelthrift34 haha ok kid. The fact is he did ride on a piece of wood with urethane wheels.
Rodney Mullen has done so damn much for skateboarding, imagine if he were have taken an interest on rollerskates or bikes instead of skateboarding.
I've been a fan from the very beginning, clearly I'll never be able to have his level of skating, so I respect him a lot, I met him in Miami and he seemed like a very good person, after a few words we took a photo for the memory, I think people criticize him out of envy of his talent and lifestyle
No skateboarders hate Nyjah. Iv'e been a fan since he was a kid.
He def isn’t as hated as you make him out to be. Lots of respect from the community and other pros around him.
No one hates Nyjah exceot for people who cant skate as good as him or make money moves like him. This man only gets better and better.
that like 180 thing he did while grinding that rail might be the sickest trick i ever seen.
Lmao ok..."
…and then you proceed to give NO proof. Do you know what proof means? I am NOT saying Nyjah is definitely innocent, I am criticising your comment.
@@adop_os You are mixing up evidence and proof. Not the same thing. Neither should it be.
Let that talent speak for itself.
haters gonna hate but Nyjah my favorite skater and such a wholesome dude
He earned all his wins. Super consistent. The guy deserves respect.
hate? there is no hate, just jealousy. the skill is undeniable and nobody talks about a NBA star selling out.
He went through so much he deserves the wins, dude is legendary
Wait the dad who wanted to keep the family legit was a problem, but Hollywood money mom was the better choice? This doesn’t age well.
his dad beat the fuck out of all do them? thats legit to you?
I really have never heard of him being hated… he’s so rad
its crazy how much ppl will judge or hate on you, especially not knowing what you have went threw to get where you are.
Dude does make insane tricks look easy as hell, he is a beast
When you're so good that you make it look so easy that its boring. Absolutely insane and i respect it even more
I worked at a taco truck, we were hired to make tacos at a small skate event at Nyjahs skatepark! He never came to grabbed tacos, never said hello, someone actually grabbed tacos for him, didn’t even shout us out or anything lol that’s why I didn’t care much for him after that!
So basically his dad was the skateboarding version of Todd Marinovich's dad.
No one:
Nyjah Houston's ass tattoos:
🌞🌞
It sounds like to me his dad was getting frustrated because he wanted to finish something he wasn’t able to while trying to build a foundation for nyjah
I completely understand why he was trying to start their own brand
I grew up in a nice neighborhood, but he lived 5 doors down, he had a few 16-17 year old girls from my high school always at his pad, he was in his late 20s at the time
Literally my favorite skater always picked him in tony hawk project 8
It's called jealousy. Man is an all out monster on a board. Haters gonna hate what they can't achieve. The fact that he's never won SOTY when he's by far the best skater in the world says it all.
I never understood the Nyjah hate
I think haters are jealous people & people love to hate cuz they’re weak
Been following this kid since he was a kid and we’ve been skating about the same time. He has had a great life. Period.
Too many tattoos for me.
Why are you worried about another man's body?
Why were u lookin to marry him gaybo😂
He didn’t get them for you..
Absolutely nothing wrong with nijah. Hard working solid human 💪
Shout out to his dad! He gave the best gift a father can give a son something to love and he made millions! His dad kept him in tip top shape in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 because he came back and dominated like never left stay ready was his dads motto more sure!
how could you hate this legend
He’s obviously the coolest dude because he made a guest appearance in Bros of Simi Valley. So much respect 🙏
I remember watching him on RUclips in high school when he first showed up and knew them he was a legend . This was around 2008 I believe.
Nyjah is legit I grew up watching him 😅 since I was 17 years old
This is simply why i skate but dont associate with skaters as they are mostly(exceptions of course) toxic and gate keepy.
being forced to skate until 4am might seem cruel...
things people say when they have never worked in their lives..
I remember watching Nyjah in SLS. He was amazing, but eventually it did get a little old watching him win often. The age of Nyjah was incredible to see such young raw talent but it’s great to see new blood emerging on the scene.
Been watching him since the Braille days, always seemed like a solid humble cat ready to put in the work.
This has to be clickbait. He worked for everything he has. One of the most legit and talented skaters there is.
Can’t hate on the goat. Best man doing it
Yeah, I don't even know why I clicked on this.

Check out nyjahs dads hands. he really loves that hand triangle. haha GIVE ME POWER!!!!
Jealousy is sad. This dude has worked his azz off perfecting his art, get off em
He is just phenomenal. Solid tough and weapon skater
He's a natural. He puts in work. He's got balls of steel. He's the goat.
Nyjah is one of the best if not the greatest, I'm not a fan but he definitely deserves all the fame. Appreciate hes skills
People hated Ryan Sheckler too and he was legit I didn't understand but most dudes said hes a dick when they met him back in the day.
People just hate other people's success. The dude has done the hard work and is reaping the rewards.
I think some people just hop on the hate train because they want to feel included but as they get older they realize that the dude is actually a legend in the scene.
Hating on someone for being really good is strange, Jett Lawrence is going through the same thing at the moment with Motocross and Supercross
Sorry but theres tons of Skaters unheard of that are better than Nyjah Houston.
I feel like his dad saw this coming. He had to make sure his son was undeniable. Look they may hate his “style” but they can’t say he isn’t extremely skilled and talented
more like his dad was jealous and dint want him to succeed in ways he wasnt able to. looks like he sabotaging him when he started making waves to me
Haters gonna hate dude rips bottom line just because he's successful doesn't mean he's sold out Sheckler got the same hate ❤
