- For this video we did some public documenting at this USPS location outside as well as inside the facility within the publicly accessible areas, to exercise our 1A rights. There was a mixed reaction to our presence while we were conducting our business. One of the employees behind the counter has an issue with with Sidewalks22 cameras, telling him to get the camera out of his face when he was clearly at least 10-15 feet away. A postal supervisor came over to speak with us & informed us that the employees weren't feeling comfortable with what we were doing. As we were having a conversation with the supervisor, a customer in line proclaimer her love for this post office location & the customer service with the employees. when we returned outside to do some more exterior recording, a customer began chatting with us & expressed his concern with the general public & those who are unaware of our own basic constitutional rights, Kudos to that individual for his knowledge.

Yeah, I remember one small, elderly gentleman doing an audit in a post office, and the supervisor, a large woman who towered over him, aggressively walked up to him and demanded to know why he was filiming. He looked up at her and calmly said, "One, because it's lawful as well as legal, and, two, because I FEEL like it." Judging by the look of fury on her face, she didn't like that worth a damn, and, although it was only about 4:30 p.m., she closed the post office completely. Other customers who tried to enter were bewildered, and some of them demanded to see the supervisor, but, not surprisingly, she made her self scarce pretty quickly. I've seen clerks just walk away from their windows and refuse service to a customer because they were being filmed by an auditor. They also try and claim that the auditor, when he or she is at the counter (Amangansett Press used to buy exactly ONE stamp so that he could document it, along with his receipt) can be filming sensitive data and/or credit card information at the next window (same lie at DMV and court houses). As Long Island Audit has pointed out, if he was up to "no good," it's not likely that he would be so open about filming, but, if he had a discreet camera on his hat or lapel, OR, if he had a photographic memory, he could get that same information, though, merely "recording" it isn't a crime unless he DID something with it-but it IS a crime for the entity, it's up to THEM to provide privacy, which they could do by simply turning the computer monitors/display screens to where the public couldn't see it, but, they don't wanna hear THAT, of course.🤣😜😂🤪
When they choose to work in public for the public they give up any choice of comfort!!

As the supervisor she is the acting manager while the manager is away. Doesn’t excuse her lack of understanding or knowing about poster 7. She was respectful though.

I say its a fail because they didn’t have poster 7 on display anywhere in the post office. What amazes me is most postal employees don’t know the rules and regulations of the post office.
It’s actually quite common for the workers not to know about Poster 7, I guess this isn’t a concern when they’re getting trained.
Because all they care about is control. You should see how they treat the mail carriers.

Makes me proud of our foreign friends who come here and know their rights and appreciate the freedoms that come with the Constitution. We tend to forget how special this country is and take our freedoms for granted.

You should have reminded the manager the camera footage from their cameras is public record and you can get it through a records request and put it anywhere you want on the internet.
There is ZERO difference between their cameras and your camera in that respect.

The problem is that Poster 7 has a comma in it. We all know that comma’s or lack thereof causes all sorts of problems in the US. take Amendment 2 as an example.

The reason why new immigrants understand the Bill of Rights and Constitution is because the knowledge of that is tested in order to become a citizen. It needs to be taught in school and required to pass in order to receive your HS diploma or GED.

Those cameras on the wall/ceiling of the Post Office are primarily for catching their employees stealing. Employee theft is their main cause of loss.
I read that all post offices where informed that if someone comes with a camera just continue doing your job don’t engage , its their right to film inside and out of the post offices.. Some people like to be the center of attention and be over dramatic.. keep up the good work educating the employees & public…
My post office still has the no cell phone signs up. But all kinds of people are on their cell phone. no problem. I think they use that to keep people from standing at the counter having a conversation with Auntie

It appears that many people think that anytime a camera includes them within it’s field of view, that means that the camera is in their face. While I think that the camera must be within a foot of a face to be considered “in a face.”

A supervisor in the post office oversees the sorting out and organizing of incoming and outgoing mail, parcels and freight deliveries. He/She also ensures that employees appropriately package and prepare local and international cargo for dispatch by stamping and labeling them.
For example, he/she confirms that employees mark and label fragile parcels before dispatch. He/she selects mail and parcels randomly from trolleys to confirm that they have stamps and are placed in the right categories. The supervisor is also responsible for ensuring that timelines, guidelines and policies - on how to receive mail and attend to customers - are met.

I guess the supervisor has not read the 22 Aug 2022 Stand Up Talk email from Postal Inspection Service that told all USPS employees to leave the people with cameras alone. Don't talk to them, don't photograph them, don't call the cops, don't trespass them. THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO BE HERE and WE ARE NOT GOING TO INTERFERE.

If Public Servants to do not like being filmed while on the clock, feel free to quit and get a job in the Private Sector. Unless the local PD has a written agreement with the PO, they have NO jurisdiction on Federal Property. The Postal Inspectors are the ones with jurisdiction and they know that filming in the hallways & public access areas of a PO is ok.
And the Post Master saying Don't React that's all they want. Get That Phone Out My Face...bahahaha ...sad. That cool-as bloke....

When the guy behind the camera said the man in the back was giving a false narrative, the man was actually telling the truth. Auditors go out looking for reactions. The negative ones are more important because they generate interest, views and subs. This is why they pick easy targets like the Post Offices. They know negative reactions and arguments will happen. It always does with the public. I've seen 1000's of auditor videos over 14+ years and it's not hard to figure the reason people go out with cameras rolling. They see the dollar signs with u-tube. Most do. A few do it to make changes in police enforcement. (Turner vs, Driver)

You should sue that postmaster personally for putting up that "no cameras" sign because it obviously violates federal law and violates your rights as a journalist. Just use the government's idiot-proof forms to file a pro se civil rights violation suit, and if you can't afford the fees, also fill out the idiot-proof form they have to waive any fees.
