We need to grow this channel. Alex is giving us amazing content he deserves so much more followers! From all the great streamers and online chess content creators, Alex has grown to be my favourite one! Much love from Sweden!
Man you're not just the one who's helping me the most in chess, but also the most charismatic person in this community. Very refreshing, I like your style a lot!
I’m a hard core fan and have watched and studied every Caro Kann video on this channel multiple times but may I say this is the best summary instructional lesson so far. And the humor and wit just escalates Alex you are too funny mate. Love your stuff.
Thank you for another great video! I love your comments ".. and you see a stranger in your house!", " ... the rook as a bouncer in a club", etc. Like also the drum music, or other thing you do to make this video more fun to watch!
You make this game look SO easy! I don't think you give yourself enough credit Alex. I think you could beat Gotham chess with you eyes closed your so good. I also want to thank you for everything you have taught me .
Really enjoy your content man! Had decided to learn caro and vienna before I even found your stuff, felt like hitting the jackpot finding your channel. Thank you for helping me learn and enjoy this game. Appreciate you!
Just discovered your channel, your videos are so much more informative then other content creators. Also your jokes are sending me sometimes. Not only does it make your videos fun to watch but it helps me remember the stuff you're talking about! great stuff
A good beginner video you can analyze is the Magnus vs Bill Gates chess match. Gates did everything theoretically right (develop minor pieces, castle, control center) yet still lost in less than 1 min.
QUESTION: by 7:11 If white plays knight a3 to protect c2 is ti bad? Would you eat with the bishop or place queen on a5 before? if black bishop x a3 and b2 x a3 then queen a5 and bishop back to b2. is that wrong? Why white didn't play a3 to avoid the knight on b5? Thanks
I hear what you're saying about checkmates, I've been playing almost 3 yrs now but struggled to stay above 1000 till about 7 months ago when I found the Habits series, my rating started shooting up the day I stopped caring about winning and just kicked back waiting for my opponent to blunder or teach me something
Alex, thanks for all the great content, I love your way of delivering very cool concepts and ideas along with some funny jokes. One tiny feedback though for your own reflection is that sometimes your tone can come across a little condescending for beginners or people that aren't able to see certain dangers as quickly as you, specially when the opponent makes mistakes as most of us do. Other than that, keep up the amazing content! 🎉
Alex, great getting simple instruction that is easy to grasp. Watching some of the elite channels (you know who they are) I never get the feeling I could learn to play as well. Thanks for the black opening that looks simple yet, practical so I can spend more time on the middle game. I have been using London for white but avoiding more challenges with black and this looks like a good place to start. Thanks again.
Started playing chess about a week ago, you explain things pretty well. Cheers, however 1 question at 29:27 part why couldn’t he take the rook with his queen then if you moved pawn to d1 his rook can capture from D8 ?
You have helped me improve my game. I'm new to improving beyond basics and your videos have helped me get over the 600 rating online. I'm a subscriber now and I'll be sure to like every video I watch! Thank you for the great content!
Pretty solid beginner chess player. Just had a tough time getting direction. The info on Caro Kahn itself is great. But the attitude of “don’t spend the game trying to get check mate” has really gotten me out of beginner level dumpster. Has given me a solid base to play more and have it be more fun, less stupid mistakes. Thank you very much.
best chess youtuber imo, love to see ur stuff and i'm learning very much. (PS: try to use some different picture from you in the thumbnail bro, i know u are handsome but do some new pics)
Excellent substantive content with the usual dose of witty and entertaining commentary. The only channel most players really need to be subscribed to until they have progressed well beyond average understanding of the game.
i uswear to god.. one of the best chess content creators on youtube.. brother i dont know how you can keep telling stories the entire time! That being said i learned a lto from this .. thsi opening is awesome!
I used to play Caro-Kann when I started my adventure with chess but I have stopped mostly because of exchange the w bishop for a knight in many lines… your vids made me want to play it again. I would love to see your speed run with the Vienna and CK. great stuff m8.
Thanks man! I’m a rookie at chess and I was struggling a lot with black pieces, started to follow your advice playing the Karokan and now I’m very excited to play with black pieces, btw I’m currently playing Jobava London with white, bro you really help me a lot and thank you for that. And yes I really enjoy your videos keep it up 👍
The Caro Kann is excellent... But the randomness in the 400 elo range makes it challenging to play... At least for me. I'm 44 and just started playing last August having never played before... The more I play it and the more I understand it, the more enjoyable it is.
You have single-handedly made me fall in love with the Caro. Two lines I have been intrigued by though, the immediate Qb6 vs the Fantasy and g6 vs the Advance. Don’t know if these are video fodder?? Keep up the awesome work.
It's so funny that Alex makes jokes and discusses each move to the furthest extent leaving him with 6 minutes less than his opponent and he wins anyways
One thing, that I realized, when I made my first chess program in the early 80s (you have no idea how conservative with the memory you had to be back then -- assembler was the only realistic way to go) was that the static valuation of the pieces was a waste of computer resources, and not very accurate. Instead, I just counted the possible free moves for each piece. For instance, a bishop located on one of the 2x2 center squares, when not obstructed, is worth 13. As soon as it moves out of that area, the value decreases to 11 on the 4x4, 9 on the 5x5 down to 7 at the corner. And the bishop is easily obstructed, sometimes even to value 0. The knight on the other hand can not easily be obstructed, except by its own pieces, it maintains most of its value (8) on the 4x4 centre, slightly reduced when moving out of that area. Now, exchanging a knight (at maybe 7) for a blocked bishop (maybe 2-3 free moves) does not seem like a good deal? The tower is unique that it maintains its full potential all over the board, so keeping it on the outer lanes is often advantageous, but that's another story...😉
Hippopotamus defense is just too much fun. But I like the caro kann and will play it from time to time. Hippo is just so troll, I love surprising opponents
Thank you Alex for sharing your knowledge with us, excellent opening,i have a lot of improvement with the Caro Kann and the way of your thoughts!!!is there anything similarar for the white pieces? What about Saragossa opening?
Okay, call out on the second game. It’s a blitz game, Alex is live streaming at the same time, clock is running low, opponent is generating some serious threats, and Alex still wins with 87.7% accuracy. Insane.
To be honest, I'm gravitating more to openings like the Rousseau Gambit or the Stafford Gambit. I like taking the opponent out of his prepared opening lines and attacking, looking for sacrifices. Yeah, I might not get as many wins but I enjoy it more.
Really nice video ! Would love some new content of this style on the London system ! If I can suggest an improvement : in my opinion the « toudoum tchiii » sample is a bit cringe 😅. Really like the emotional damage one tho 😊
Just got into chess and you're the most informative channel on youtube by far for my skill level. I'm just curious, what's the best response as black to 1.d4? Is there a way to get the same caro kann position or do I need a different opening?
"He goes Qd3. That's a move. I think that's classified as a move." I think this is his *nice* way of saying, "That's a horrible move by my opponent." I like his style! This is my first chess lesson that involved a "naked girl" reference. :)
The second game reminds me myself. i lost patience to play more than a minute game, i am now at 2000 in bullet, but sometimes I play blitz, and find myself having these bad habit of playing quickly. I find top engine moves quickly then blunder in winning positions so most of the time I lose in blitz again less than 1500 even though I was near the 2000 years ago.
After watching your videos and gotham's videos on the caro-kann I've become a committed caro-kann player. The Caro is a great opening and avoids theory heavy openings like the Ruy Lopez, King's Gambit, Italian and Scotch openings.
I can't tell you how many times I have been up a pawn, or even a knight or bishop, and I start trying to exchange pieces and I end up losing! Alex is lots of fun. I should try the Caro Kahn. Can I play that with the white pieces? Iti multumesc mult pentru video!
You can now...check out my Caro course! www.chessable.com/the-caro-kann-simplified/course/171080/

just wanted to say that your caro kann and vienna videos are absolutely amazing. Your breakdowns on the moves are brilliant for new players like me.
Please also mix in slav videos that try to transpose to Caro 😂. I like Caro so much I try to get transpositions to it from the slav defense to D4
I’m a hard core fan and have watched and studied every Caro Kann video on this channel multiple times but may I say this is the best summary instructional lesson so far. And the humor and wit just escalates Alex you are too funny mate. Love your stuff.

teacher Alex.

I'd like to see that match played.
@@MichaelMartin1979 It has been played, numerous times, and each time Gotham won narrowly.
I’m just gonna sit down and enjoy the 49 minutes of education. Thank you for another video!
Some of the best chess content on RUclips hands down. Keep making live play throughs it’s very helpful and entertaining 👍🏻
It's the mixture of incredible analysis with the awkward analogys that brings me here lol. Great content!

Absolutely love every video, lots of useful tips and info, easily understandable for all levels. You really deserve way more recognition!
Great stuff. I recently purchased Alex's London course on Chessable, and now even my cactus can handle the Chigorin defense to the London.)

Entertaining and very helpful Alex. Will you be adding to your Slav vs 1.d4 content? I am more often facing Queen pawn openings.

Just amazing. You are a great gran master teacher of chess. So simple. Thank very much. Im starting to learn this beautiful game. You are the best.
Awsome content as always. BTW is your next course going to be just the Caro-Kann? I woud love to have a complete repertoire including the slav
@29:25 why do three dots appear in front of the pawn on d2?

What happend in min. 26:18? White Pawn moves from E5 to F6 ? How is that possible?
If u moved Black pawn F7 to F5 ? Im very confused.

Amazing video, enjoyed it much, thanks.
Hair on point btw
What a fun video alex ! Love from India 🇮🇳
Instructions unclear. My cactus died.
Can you mention next 3 moves if a3 (18:45)
Could you please make a video about middle games and how to find ideas, it's something i struggle with the most even as a 1600 rapid player
do you have any games against the fantasy? danyas speedruns has made it more popular and im playing it a lot more.
I can't tell you how many times I have been up a pawn, or even a knight or bishop, and I start trying to exchange pieces and I end up losing! Alex is lots of fun. I should try the Caro Kahn. Can I play that with the white pieces? Iti multumesc mult pentru video!
nice video, y helped me understand a lot as a new player
Love you Alex your definitely the best chess RUclipsr around
