- 17yr old whiz DOMi and Louis Cole of KNOWER face-off in a funk fight deathmatch, featuring Omnisphere and the new Keyscape Creative library!
Performed completely LIVE w/programmed beat.
Find out more about Keyscape: bit.ly/2bIZqk5
Keyscape Creative: bit.ly/2kvAt3Z
DOMi and Louis are using a Roland A-88 and a Novation Launchkey to play the Spectrasonics instruments in this video. The keyboard stand is a custom Gibraltar build.
Seeing Louis Cole in a studio in 1080p feels like wicked wrong
240p ftw
Yeah, It's like what the fuck he's in the present????
lol !
same with seeing DOMi w/o blonde hair...something feels...off....
I was never sure if Louis was a full resolution human being until today.
More like "cole lays down a killer bassline for domi to jam over"
That would be too click-baity tho...
As you should do
Wesley Coleman but what if that is just the name of the song?
Yeah that title is terribly inaccurate
Honestly I like the idea of a 1-on-1 jam session framed as a “versus” battle. Kind of like when a mashup is labeled like “The Beastie Boys vs. Simon & Garfunkel” type shit.
In this kind of fight, we all win.
Except for Louis Cole
@@Neurotypique hahaha
😐 Damn youngins... they play too damned good... they're probably using trainers and cheats.
Absolutely. Only friendly shots were fired.
Strigidae Strigiformes Yea was thinking the same thing-but realized kids aint got nothing better to do.. they got all the time in the world and some of them got rich parents.. So they get special privileges.. Besides that i know for Domi.. she works hard for her chops.. She went to a top college for the performing arts and hell shes been playing piano since the age of 7 i think.. 👍🏽
But can she play smoke on the water?
2:36 YES
Raf Pajarillo if this was intentional
haha
haaaaaaaa
phenomenal
Good catch
Worst fight ever. The music was awesome and they collaborated perfectly.
Man I came to this video expecting hands to be thrown and teeth flying. Instead I got some cool music played by some awesome musicians. 0/10
if you watch the UFC you would find the worse fight is actually 2 fighters that dont collaborate together. Yoel vs Israel.
Domi’s insanely good, but I can never get over how funky Louis is on the keyboard, while being the beast that he is in the drums
Conor Manning Keys just a bunch of pitched finger drums
A wise man once told me
"get the percussion down and you're sorted"
If line art is percussion, the notes are the colours
LOL4RAWRZ idk about that. rhythm is important but harmonic knowledge doesn't just come like that, it's probably the hardest part. to play in time you just need to use a metronome
@@GrumpyStormtrooper ahh the age old debate. There truly MUST be a definitive answer ;)
@@GrumpyStormtrooper uhhh thats a got dang lie if I ever heard it😂I'll never understand the infinite world created within a microsecond difference in approach, let alone all the complex rhythmic structures they can build off of it, all the respect for all the drummers and percussionist out there, you are much loved!
the music is cool and all but when are they gonna start punching each other?
"Modulate this!" (Puh) "I'll diminish you good!" (Thud) etc...
If you don’t see sharp you gonna be flat
Don't F with me! My Gs have got my back, so C here fool you better B stepping!
Cantor Yakov C sharp, B flat. G sus - You must have A major in music.
@@Kaonashimusic I laughed at that way more than I should have.
For 17 years old, DOMi is remarkable. Her phrasing is that of improvisers in their later years. That doesn't come easily. And, I really like her choice of note. Plays outside at the right moments and just enough, starts the song with tasty blues. Very, very good player!
17? Did you say she was 17 here? Wow, that is prodigal mature levels of technique and intentionality in playing.
17 jesus fucking christ
17!?!? I'm about to be 17 and want to improv like her :')
@@synthbass9788 Look her up now (Domi&JD Beck), they are incredible.
@ i already knew them, just didn't know she was freakin 17
Domi is so good that it's like a joke...and this was five years ago. Put on your dark sunglasses because the future of jazz is looking very, very bright.
nu jazz is a pointless disaster and an utter and absolute bore. Domi and her friend jd beck are no exception. Even gingers have more soul than this orgy of vain technique. Shredding for the only sake of shredding is no better than masturbation, and the only thing all the glaspers and the domis and the you name 'em of the nu jazz scene are doin' is just an obscene MASSIVE session of jackin' off as they keep hammerin', and poundin', and humpin' their poor innocent instruments...
@@emilezoulette882every time i see this take i disagree more and more
I am a 65 year old funk fusion keyboardist. Great to see this style played up by the younger players. I wish I had these great keyboards when I was 17!
Have you listened to Jacob Coller at all? Dude can get super funky
@@kylereilly3259 hes incredible
I wish you could meet my dad and be friends
@@aspiresk8boarding Well he can hear me play by watching my RUclips series: Jazz At The Workbench. I was a synth service tech for 37 years. I would record videos using various keyboards that I liked. I have about 20 videos. Also two albums on Spotify, and newer tunes on Soundcloud.
I came because of Louis, but holy wow, Domi is amazing! I didn't know hands could move that fast.
StraightOuttaJarhois watch yuja wang's turkish march rendition or hiromi uehara if you want your mind blown
If that was all improvised then my mind is officially blown to chunks
@@AllusernamesgoneFUCK BOOM! It was pure improv
StraightOuttaJarhois APodbayDoor have you guys never witnessed a jazz pianist before?
You should check out classical pianists....
so..all i need to do is pay 399 for this software and install it, then i play like them?
thats reasonable.
And a bit of practicing.... ;-)
yea just a few days practice and you'll be on fire
hahaha .. nice one!
lol dam right.
OK, please tell me when it works I'll buy 10 of them....
ah the dude from knower .. absolutely love their music
hahah dude you show up in all the vids i watch, you have good taste!
When people compliment someone else's taste in music, they're really just complimenting their own taste

That's cool!

@@randomprimate ... mind blown!
It's like I'm hearing the lost Headhunters recordings
Lots of Herbie licks in there
yes! :D
Y’all trippin
I keep coming back to this, they're so good together.
A couple of videos of her playing Cory's solo... dang now she's here
ZionGuy you can really hear the influence
I love the way DOMi used them chromatic arpeggios at 1:22. That was Dope. They funking the hell out this groove. And when DOMi started putting that jazz vocabulary in there, I was sold.
ARPEGGIO.
How is that an arpeggio? Not being smart, honestly trying to learn.
@@TheBLars Arpeggios consists on the 1st 3rd and 5th note of Any major or minor scale. If you listen closely as the lick starts, she begins with the D minor Arpeggio (F D A), and then goes down chromatically from there to a Bb minor Arpeggio (Db Bb F). In the case of the D minor arpeggio, D is the 1st note, F is the 3rd note, and A is the 5th note, but the pattern itself as it happens is in the order of 3rd, 1st, 5th.
She is playing an arpeggio, but moving the same pattern down chromatically as a motif, but changing up the rhythm each time so different notes in the arpeggio get's emphasized etc.@@TheBLars
I completely fail to grasp how a mind can come up with this in the first place, let alone translate it into actual execution on the keyboard in real time. I’m flabbergasted.
Music theory and just knowing your scales gets you here if you practice them.
@@drnarwhal2888 I think maybe a few more skills...
@@markchiodras9291Countless hours of active listening to music and practice
"Flabbergasted"... I like this word
this sucks, my brain has like a 600 ping connection to my hands and I dunno how I could ever hope to be this good
Somebody's been doing their "Herbie" homework.
Oh yeah, heard some big Herbie stuff in there
she would be treated like a queen in Cologne jazz scene.
@@Yetipfote could you explain what cologne jazz is?
@@DerInternet yes. Google Pablo Held for example.

OmniSphere patches: Domi - I'm Not Mad At You, Louis: Chameleon Vibe Bass
Can't get enough of this. I've listened to it 8 times in a row. Absolutely nothing better than funk jazz!
No fight here, just brilliant musicians getting along perfectly!
Herbie Hancock doesn't even have to die to reincarnate as a white girl, that's sick.
Oh no sir
Don’t insult the great one in this way
@@EFHmusic No insults here, none.
no.
And no.
I should report this comment for hate speech
so i’m 17 now, and i play piano, and i don’t think ill ever be this good even if i’d started playing when i was 1. and i’m not even mad just blessed we get to listen to this
Charlie nah you will. i’m 28 and have made ridiculous progress in only 2 years. you’re young, so stay consistent and you’ll be at this level and beyond when you’re my age 😉👑
Everyone has their own unique voice. And the fact that you're listening to complex music like this is a good start. Dont give up!
@@lonzcityy2189 Thank you!! Even though your comment is 9 months old, it gave me just the motivation I needed today! /from someone who is 21.
@@ejlatsaknetxis glad to help 💙
She started at 3, so that plays a role for sure
Super dope and Louis must have the most hilarious closet.
If you go through his trash you just find sleeves
The dude quite literally has the most unique wardrobe I have ever seen. I think in one video he wears a 12XL alien shirt or something. He is a gift to us all
@@Mutantcy1992 omg yes
She's an amazing player, but no one can beat Louis in GROOVE.
Then why didn’t they show what each musician can do with their feet? Aka play melodies and a bassline at the same time
Domi..Domi..Domi.. Cant wait till her Album drops.. Her killer phrasing is out of this world-shows by experience shows. shes been at since young..
This is sooo badass - DOMi is a top talent! I've seen Louis live as well in KNOWER - awesome talent and band!
Amazing, Love the funky 80s factory vibe
I'd love to hear Domi play with a horn section and other lead instruments. I really love her playing. I'm impressed with her hand independence and ability to play bass lines with her left hand while also expressing melodic and harmonic ideas with her right, but I'd be curious to hear her try out bigger band configurations and negotiate melodic and harmonic exploration with other musicians who are playing lead -- horns, flute, guitar, whatever. I'd also like to hear how she'd play with a dedicated bass player in a lineup.
In any case, she's awesome. She's such a talented and creative jazz pianist and musician in general with truly masterful technical abilities and impressive hand independence.
There’s a reason they don’t show what their feet can do lol
She's playing along with Ghost Note for JD Beck's Zildjian LIVE session. There's also a recording of her and JD Beck playing Them Changes with Thundercat, not to mention a recording with Anderson .Paak, Kamasi Washington, Thundercat and JD Beck and others. Also lots of recordings of her, JD Beck and MonoNeon (sometimes under the name Whatever The Fyucks, if I recall correct). Check them out, they're all pretty great performances.
The feeling of getting in the zone and just focusing on the sound you’re making is so incredible and I’m so grateful for playing guitar cos it’s such a euphoric high when you improv a killer solo or just make sick sounds.
seeing as louis cole is first of all a drummer, like that's his "main" thing, the fact he can hang with someone like Domi is just a testament to how sick he is at music in general
The smiles at the start and in the end are pure gold. Love them so much!
This is basically SimCity 3000 and NBA Jam music, with a bit of Sonic CD/Mania added in for good measure.
So glad I found this! DOMI before she was famous lol. Now we need a drum battle between Cole and Beck :P
That wouldn’t be fair to Louis, as he’s a human
cool turns out this is the bass line from the song "real life" on his new album. GREAT album
Young, competent, innovative, talented and underrated, unfortunately. these guys are simply great!
I'm only just starting to really like this Louis Cole fellow and now I have look up more stuff from Domi Degalle...
I watch videos like this to restore my hope in the future. Just stopped by for a refill. I love these people.
Whoa, a pre-dye-job Domi! 😁
She was already freakishly good then. Now, she's... well, freakishly even better.
And of course Louis plays key bass as if he practiced 24/7/365.
He said he practices music at least 8 hours a day. One third of his waking life is spent honing his craftz
@@tommysalami5268 one third of his entire life!
@@tommysalami5268 Probably half of his waking life (if he sleeps 8 hrs a night)
They should give this software free to new parents when they leave the hospital after a birth, so they can start training junior early :-)
Good idea! "In Vitro Spectrasonics" :-)
Domi t'es un grosse machine. Love sur toi.
Louis Cole, you're a funky comedic genius. Love you too.
Keyscape, you make real good sounds.
That girl’s creativity is astronomical!
I see "Funk Fight" is just a title, rather than a description of what's going on, which is Beauty.
Have watched this many times over the years, and it never gets old. Has a Herby Hancock vibe to me. Love it.
This gave me a chronic stank face..
so powerful it gave my entire family stank face without even hearing it themselves
That's why cooperation is always better than competition.
a girl i just discovered has a collab-looking track with one of my favorite artists!? that's telling me i NEED to check DOMi out-
Fantastic Chops !!
I hear a lot of Kenny Kirkland in there, love these outside licks! 😊
The only item positive from the pandemic is finding these two musical treasures! Peace from Detroit MI.
Ayee it’s fusion howie
one thing that I realized, Domi loves to paint her hair. What a magical keyboard player.
WOW! Great music! Thanks a lot!
You are most welcome! These guys are so much fun and so ridiculously talented!
if only 1 RUclips channel representing music humanity sent to a Space Voyager capsule ... i wish it could include all videos from this OUTSTANDING YT CHANNEL. SPECIALLY ONES WITH Domi♥️ but Greg Ph. and many others. This channel is only gems making true musicians or music lovers smile 😊👍♥️
I would say rather "WITH" than VS !
Such a funky collab
And, like all music battles, this one ended in a pretty chill jam sesh.
One of the best music video in the youtube world. ***
Two amazing musicians......
17 years old oooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Cool to hear DOMi play music ! I mean music you can sing or dance on.
Wanna buy keyscape and omnisphere when I start earning.....Dom you are amazing....inspired me to practice hard on my Casio 7200....
An ode to funk of ages! Smiling
I don't know how this popped up on my feed today but I'm glad it did.........
if all fights were fought like this the world would be a beautiful place!
So young and already stupidly talented, visionary and open minded girl!! Tan joven y ya estupidamente talentosa, visionaria y de miente abierta muchacha!! Tão jovem e já estupidamente talentosa, visionária e de mente aberta garota!!
I am literally lost for words. Amazing.
This is the best video title I have ever read
The groove is strong with these ones
Two styles mixed into one. Yes please.
I think we can all agree that funk was the real winner here.
アクションやハンマーのノイズの再現度が半端ねえな…
The 'Lingus' influence is strong at 1.23. Great stuff.
Yep...she played the Lingus solo and the bass part live during NAMM at our booth....stunning!
this video introduced me to DOMi 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
This sounds like it could be the sound track on a new Toejam & Earl game. Funktastic!
Wonderful!
hundreds of new great players keep coming.
both of them are winners in my book
Onward to 1 million views!!!
Two of my very favorite artists :) Domi and Louis have been killing it.
Domi my hero
great playing. i'm missing how it's a fight, though
Friendly battles. :-)
the ol' friendly deathmatch
Who won? We ALL did!
They're facing each other!
The tune is in construction not necessarily the interplay between them
both still out here dropping heaters on us too
Very Cool Showdown!
This is amazing collaboration and tremendous skill. Great groove throughout
When I've seen the title of the video, I thought of something even more cool (not that it's not cool enough right now :)
I was expecting Cole to start singing in his usual manner, then Domi would respond with her lyrics, then back, like a rap battle or something, along with the funk keyboard playing. Now that would be awesome!
Love it. Love you. That was amazing.
They are both extraordinary!
LOL, that ending - great!
This was amazing. And that was an understatement.
Either my heart is too weak, or this is too funky!
Most excellent collab 🏆
That sounds really awesome!! I'd say it's a win-win. You both played soo good!!
Lmao didn't even recognise Domi again, so used to her 50-shades-of-neon look nowadays it's crazy to think this was her just a few years ago
Does anyone noticed Domi playing "Smoke On The Water" reference riff at 2:35? Awesome.
whattttt this is incredible!
Who won? Who's next? You decide!! Epic funk battles of.... something.
2:27 Psycho mode activated
That’s Michel Camilo’s influence. “From Within” the live version is a good example. She’s amazing.
That was a hell of a tech demo guys.
This Domi really can improvise while keeping the groovy shit together! hats off!
