I have a 128Gb micro Xc 1 V10 A1 SD card. Is that too slow to put in the DJI RC SMART CONTROLLER? For Firmware updating, a previewing Cache, and Screen Recording? And I formatted the SD card using my MAVIC AIR 2…Would I have to reformat it to the Smart controller?
DJI state that a UHS-I Speed Class 3 or above is required. The minimum recommended spec is a V30 A1 card. I just got a 128gb V30 A2 card for £20 in the January sales, so they are pretty cheap, it's always worth having a reliable card. I would also recommend formatting it in your Mini 3 Pro. Hope that helps.
so in order to save photos and videos, do you plug the SD card into the drone OR the controller? Thanks
For recording photos and videos you will want to put that card into the drone.
@@stevelitton Thank you!
Can the card from the drone be inserted in the controller to view the recorded medias?
Good question. To be honest I have never tried it but you wouldn't need to do that as you can just playback any footage through the drone.
Can you use the two SD cards interchangeably between the controller and drone....or format anew if taking the controller one out to use in the drone in the event I forgot the drone SD card at home??
Hmmm good question. I am not 100% sure how reliably it would work if you took the card out the controller and put it in the drone without formatting it in the drone. But it would definitely work fine if you formatted it in the drone, so long as you have a nice fast card.
@@stevelitton I'll find out one day soon I guess... I'm new!!!! The SD card I placed in the drone gives me a SD speed low indication. Assuming my videos will be a bit choppy if
the write speed is slow??
@@CallToddSmith Yes you might find it stops recording when the card is too slow to write the footage and it may potentially drop some frames. There are links to supported cards in the description of the video. Good luck with all 👍
I have technical question, Re: memory cards = Is a memory card needed in both the controller and the drone? And where is the picture /video footage being stored at? Thank You in advance
Hi, the one in the drone is more essential as that is where the photo and video files are saved. The one in the remote provides extra storage for firmware updates, screen recordings and video preview caching. Hope that helps.
The one in the controller is also essential as you can down load your map on to it for offline use when there is no internet.
@@charliewilson3234 Maps aren't always essential but yes I think when a micro sd card only costs a few pounds/dollars then why not just have it. I very rarely fly without a card in the remote.
@@stevelitton My man I just got this remote as a Christmas gift and flew it blindly. I had to DL new firmware and down load a map to know where my drone was. This was just this AM. Before DL map, my map was blank.
@@charliewilson3234 I'm in the UK, so the flying restrictions are pretty tight. I plan all of my flights before taking off and you have to maintain line of sight, so I don't often need the map tbh.
Can you format card before even having synced the drone and RC ?
Technically the RC and the drone are already paired, so that shouldn't be a problem.
We've just bought a dji Mini 3 and have been looking at SD cards. Do we need 2, one in the drone and one in the handset?
The one in the drone is necessary for recording video and photo and the one in the controller gives it extra storage for maps, screen recording, caching and a few other bits. You can fly the drone and shoot video without the one in the controller but I would recommend getting one for it as they don't cost much in comparison to the drone. Hope that helps.
@@stevelitton Thanks so much. We will get 2. Your videos are very helpful to us beginners. 🤗
@@bethcrowther5590 No problem at all, glad you are finding them helpful 👍
I have a 64 GB scan disk SD card A1. Trying to get it in my RC controller and it will not go in. What’s your thoughts on that and how do I do it?
It is kind of awkward to get them to fit. The cards only fit in one way, the writing should be facing up the same way as the screen and controls. So the chip side facing the back of the controller. Then you just need to be able to get it to click in, it's a bit difficult if you have really short nails. You can use a tiny screwdriver to push it in if needed.
@@stevelitton
I was putting it in the right way for some reason it wouldn’t except it. But then I noticed the card was bent put in a different card and everything’s fine. Thanks.
@@nicholashalvis5376 oh really, I would never think to check that, I wouldn't expect that to happen to such a tiny card 🙂 glad you got it sorted 👍
Is there a list of compatible SD cards? Bought a SanDisk Extreme Pro 512g card and it says the card it's fast enough.
That's odd, I am pretty sure that is on the list. The official list is here under the RC Pro heading near the bottom of the page 👉 www.dji.com/uk/mobile/mini-3-pro/specs
This happened to me too. I use the Sandisk Extreme Pro and mid flight a message suddenly pops up that the card is not fast enough. It hasn't affected the video files but it is strange as these are supported carda.
A lot of uses have recommended using the SD card formatted on the remote on the drone if you suddenly run out of card space on your drone. Yes, this can be done but be aware that if you do this, your SD card simply will not open on a Windows PC. This happened to me. Halfway through filming I suddenly realised that the drone SD card was full. I landed the drone and removed the SD from the RC remote, inserted it into the drone and continued filming. When I got back to the studio, the second SD card just wouldn't open on the PC. The only way to retrieve the video files if this happens is to put the card back in the RC remote, plug in an external hard drive into the Type C port next to it and transfer the files onto the Hard drive. It was a tense half day of research to figure that one out.
I'm using micro sd card ultra 64 gb from sandi diks , is that good sd card?
They recommend the Extreme versions which are a bit quicker but you might find it works fine. There are links to the recommended cards in the description and you can see the official list here www.dji.com/uk/mobile/mini-3-pro/specs
@@stevelitton Thank you
Appreciate the info But the constant waiving of your hand in the camera is quite annoying.
No worries, yeah I can't help doing a lot of gesticulation when I am trying to explain things.
So I formatted mine but when I’m flying and trying to film, it says it’s still filming on the RC memory and that no SD card is detected. BUT in my settings it says it detects it and shows how much space is on it. Help!
Hi, the RC card is only really for video caching on the controller. To record photos and videos to the drone you will need to have a card in the drone. The one in the RC Pro is more of an optional extra. There is a video on how to insert and format a card in the drone here ruclips.net/video/hMU-aP7awJU/видео.html
@@stevelitton OMG. I didn’t even see the slot in the drone! I’m so silly. YES. Works perfect now! I was googling and searching for a week! User error of course! Thank you so much for the reply!
@@cayfox No problem, glad you got it working 👍
I searched RUclips for this aspect of functionality on the DJI RC to see how to get back out of the "Explore" mode of accessing the stored files and back into the DJI Fly screen. I am new with the Mini 3 Pro and the DJI RC and I was looking around a little bit while the drone was in the air and I got stuck in the "Explore mode".
I think there may be some confusion just around the wording you are using, the 'explore' menu is actually a mode on some of the other drones. I assume you are talking about the album menu with all the photos and videos? If you find yourself in the album menu there should be a small arrow up in the top left that will just drop you back in to the main menu and then you can just press 'Go Fly'. Hope that helps.
@@stevelittonyes it did help. I had actually just found the upper left "back" arrow not long after I posted my question. What I had not realized as A) it was there and B) you have to physically scroll the page down just a bit to reveal it.
@@dgibbsfl Ah yeah, it's a bit of a maze sometimes to find your way around the menus as all the buttons are in completely different places for each menu. Glad you got it sorted 👍
@@stevelitton
It is kind of an Android thing. I was kind of surprised to see DJI plant their controller software on top of the Android OS.
@@dgibbsfl Yeah I always thought that was odd. Especially when the Android version of the DJI Fly app has been so buggy in the past. I must admit, I do really like the DJI RC though, it's way better than having to use a phone or tablet.
Thanks. But it's frustrating watching your right hand moving around on the video -)
Ha, thanks. Yeah sorry, I have a really bad habit of over-gesticulation when I am talking about stuff 👋
Mine says android under portable storage, not disc. Why is that?
Is it a card you gave used in a phone or tablet previously?
@@stevelitton no it’s a brand new card it’s just not an extreme and it’s labeled A1 not A2 so I thought maybe that makes a difference when recording.
@@nicholashalvis5376 Hmm that's odd, is that even after the card is formatted? There are some A1 supported cards. You can see the recommended card list here www.dji.com/uk/mobile/mini-3-pro/specs

Sorry if you didn't find it useful. I do try very hard to make the videos short, simple and to the point. I just want to make sure I am getting in all the information that complete beginners need though, so it is accessible to everyone.
@@stevelitton it isn’t that it is not helpful I just gets frustrating when anyone’s video is almost 1/2-3/4 over before the creator just simply gets to the point.
Your video did eventually teach me what I was doing wrong and I do appreciate that.
Sorry for my impatience and ty for the info.
@@gene877 No problem, I will take that on board. Glad you got what you needed.
Good video but you need to script it. 75% irrelevant monologue; 25% useful information… in other words… shut the hell up and get to the point mate.
I do take your point but I don't have time to do any of that, I have a job and other commitments. I just do videos when people ask for them to help them out. The video is under 5 minutes which in comparison to most videos on RUclips is pretty short. Most other videos would go into an irrelevant sponsored section or tell you about their day and what they have been up to for 5 minutes before even picking up the remote. I will take that on board though and appreciate the feedback 👍
