Great video as always, Patrick! Wasn’t a fan of the original Basecamp, but I love this. More storage, bigger frig, love the extra seating. Much better overall layout. Really just needs a sink in the wet bath and it’d be my favorite single axle AS model. Brushing my teeth in the kitchen sink is a non-starter.

I have a 2018 which I love but this is perfect for two. Usually I prefer to leave the bed made up and just spend most of my time outside to eat etc. The bigger fridge is awesome plus the bath window 👍. I would miss the bigger kitchen area in mine. Overall I am very happy with mine. I didn’t care for the Nest with just one door. You do the best walkthroughs Patrick! Whenever people look at mine and want more info I just refer them to you. It definitely gets a lot of attention 😎

Patrick, these videos are great, but i laugh because you always give the disclaimer that 'these are by no means a 4 season trailer'. I used my basecamp 16 to work remotely and ski all winter and spring every week from Thursday - Sunday boondocking with water in the tanks in a ski resort parking lot and its done fine in temperatures down to 7' F with most nights around 15' F. That said, I wouldn't do it straight from the factory with no additional preparation with water in the tanks. I'm only confident because I upgraded to lithium batteries and always carry along a backup generator, catalytic propane heater, an extra full propane tank, a couple bottles of RV antifreeze and everything i need to quickly winterize if the furnace fails. I'd argue that it can be a 4 season trailer.

200 watt or 2000 watt? Maxxair fan instead of the (not so) fantastic fan (junk), standard micro convection, storage under front dinette, 320w of flexible solar panels, Lagun table leg, foam insulation etc

Great video and mostly an improvement over the smaller model except the window shades. Why would they design straps over the glass and rolled shades that take up almost 1/4 of the window? That really obstructs the incredible views from that model.

If Airstream is listening, the microwave need to be lower and the option for a convection microwave, get rid of the storage/bungee racks and put some cabinets, and a sink in the bathroom.

The bathroom toilet paper never gets wet at all as long as that door of it is closed

Excellent walk through... 2 questions though: You mention the interior aisle tie downs for if you wanted to carry a kayak inside; what is the length of the the interior aisle (rear door to under the front bench)? and, what is the width between the rear benches (with and without table posts- want to see if there's enough room to carry 2 turned on their side)?
It is 13' from the back door to the dinette post and 33" wide at the benches.

Daniel, you will need a SUV or pickup that can tow 5000# or more and has a compatible hitch weight of 500# or more.
I am thankful Airstream seems to really listen or watch for user feedback in their design upgrades. Everything about this Airstream Basecamp 20X is what I hope for to travel part time in a trailer with my pets. Great review Patrick! Always wonderful. I cannot wait to get there to get one, praying for next year.

Patrick. Great demo. I have watched this multiple times so when I finally get my Basecamp 20X I will know quite a bit. The one thing you didn’t show is the compartment under the roadside front cushion that houses the battery and the electronics. Other than that an excellent job!

One thing that they need to change in the design. It just makes sense to me that allow your gray water tank to flush through the black water tank that saves water. Just makes sense to me. That way you’re not using fresh water necessarily in the beginning at least as your rent your black water tank the gray water tank and help get the heavy duty stuff out first. I know that was an attractive conversation sorry folks.
This would only work with shower grey water. The toothpaste, spit and food debris that drains down sinks would clog the valves in toilets.

Well done Patrick, thank you. Could you be more specific as to why you recommend a “charge lead” from the 7 pin? Is there a charge benefit for the trailer batts? Be it any configuration of agm, lith, solar? Thx
Don, it is always recommended to have a vehicles 7-way also charge the trailers batteries unless you are using Lithium Iron LifeP03 Batteries and it is below freezing.
@@colonialairstream I see Battleborn now has a heated battery option that could be envisioned somewhat acting like heating pads that work automatically. One important point is that without that solution the older versions will have the BMS disconnect automatically at a safe temperature so that there will be no damage to the batteries from the charge line of the tow vehicle. That being said, I need to study how that safety function would affect the emergency breakaway function. With the internal battery heating pads it should be no issue to that breakaway function, however time will tell what I may be overlooking. An unrelated question I have is what is the amperage rating of the 12-volt power point above the 12-volt charging center? Intended for charging devices typically, I am wondering if it will support a 65-watt USB-C 12-volt charger for Chromebooks, etc. Any external monitor could easily be powered by a 150-watt inverter hard-wired into the 12-volt power center, my RV trips generally involve some type of connectivity to support office functions back home while on the road. Another question, I don't see a access box for roof 4G antenna amplifier solutions, there is probably a way to do it that will be told about on the forums later. -Dave

An awesome and thorough presentation. About the only thing I was left curious about, was hooking up the Outdoor Airstream Grill...I have a Camp Chef Outdoor Oven I'd like to connect (Maybe I missed it). 😊
Glad it was helpful! For a camp chef grill, that works on high pressure LP, you can hook it directly to one of the LP tanks.

That is the 16' model.
Any chance you could make a 20' basecamp x with the same floor pattern as the 16'? I'd like to have the 20' with the kitchen at the front. More spacious than spread around. Maybe that could be an option?
Currently that is not an option, but I am sure Airstream will have new floor plans in the future model year.

Love the floor plan and flexibility. It sounds so echo-y with the bare metal walls and ceiling. Does that moderate when loaded with gear?

Multiple dealers I’ve spoken to have said this is indeed a Fourseason trailer because the underbelly is sealed and heated as well as tank heaters.

Beautiful. But, i just have to say something that could change, why dont use a telescopic system for the tables? In this case, you wouldn’t need to change the tubes for the bed.
The telescopic table legs would be in the way if you wanted to load cargo into the back which most customers do.

Yes can do the AC upgrade aftermarket if you feel necessary. There is room for two more 90W panels.

Yes but they will not fit properly in the cover. Yes, all RV.s batteries can be charged with a generator.

That would be extremely dangerous and not recommended.

josh myers You could always do it after market but my favorite thing about the Basecamp is it has everything I need but nothing I don’t. If I’m camping the last thing I want is a tv, just my opinion. The Nest is similar size...you could check it out. I love the ruggedness of the Basecamp myself. I’m very happy with mine 😎
I liked it since I first laid eyes on it, with all the windows and all but, the cushions to sleep on look really thin. I feel like it would be the same as sleeping on a mat in a tent and that's the main reason why I want to upgrade to an RV. And to throw anything on top just to make it comfortable would be an option but for the price I would rather get something else with a comfortable bed. I still plan to get an Airstream thou, I've watched all your videos, big fan!! Thanks

The front curved windows do not open on any Airstream model.

I’m completely new to RV and campers my fiancé and I want one and we really like this one but I’m curious when out camping and there’s no plug in are you able to use the refrigerator, Furnace or air conditioner, what about a hot shower sorry if I sound dumb but how’s it all work
Andrew, I explain the workings of the Airstreams in the walk through tour videos, I have many others besides this one. The Air Conditioning and microwave would need AC shore power to run. I hope my videos are helpful.

That is a seriously small wet bath! I thought the one in my Casita was tight but it is huge compared to this one. Isn't this supposed to be a larger trailer than the Basecamp 16? They should have kept the original kitchen setup in the front and made the rear area larger. Two seating areas seem redundant to me, especially when the one in front makes you face away from those big windows when you are seated there. Not a very good use of space and very little storage increase. Dropped the ball kids. SMH. Not on my shopping list.
Richard, I would suggest visiting and looking through a Basecamp. I have been in both productions and the Basecamps wet bath is larger than the Casita.
His van is pretty epic also.

good video. my only concern is the 540 lbs tongue weight? planning to tow with a 2021 subaru ascent limited ,.,.i think ir can do 500 tongue weight and tow 5000 lbs..maybe travel with one 20 lb propane full then add propane to the other close to campsite
The Subaru is quite limited with tongue weight. You may have to remove one tank to tow is under weight.
