The people asking these questions CLEARLY know nothing about hockey. It's embarrassing.

I don't always agree with Bettman but I do on this issue, I do not really understand the questions that the Libs and NDP were asking. Like, most things are up to the players, changes need to be made to equipment to keep players safe. Fighting takes 2 people, they know what might possibly happen with a fight. over time, fighting will be phased out of the game, but it will not be because of a rule change

Fighting NEEDS to exist to some extent in Hockey. It's too high paced, and intense to not have a way to release tension.

i play twice a week, and i'd say 95% of the hockey that gets played in this country is non-contact. it is middle aged men banging a puck around every rink in this country every night of the week from about 8:30 pm until midnight. and we still have concussions every once in a while because of the nature of the game. i'm accustomed to hating gary bettman. i never liked fighting in hockey. i've long since felt that it's an exciting enough game. i must admit that bettman's changes have been effective over time. the game is so fast now that if a player finishes a hit for the sake of hitting, he misses out on a play, and the opposing team takes advantage of that. with those changes at the top level, coaches of younger hockey players will train toward that kind of game. plain and simple, that will mean fewer concussions for younger players.

Bettman is a clever man and is correct when describing that fighting is decreasing and rules, policy and departments are in place in the NHL to police the game. The issue in "professional sports" is very different from amateur sports but to put it simply a limited health and safety policy exists in sport. Procedures, practices, protocols and strategy are possible pre-injury and post-injury in ice hockey (and all collision sports for that matter). The management of hazards and risk potential are possible yet sports groups, committees and even the scientific and medical community have not established these processes. #Safe4Sports

I mean.... A tap from Marchand’s lover would be considered a big punch (Zdeno Chara).
