At some point people will look back in history and realize that music is not a sporting event. It's is an undeniably unique and and incredibly powerful form of art. There's no batons getting passed, no laps being made, no points being scored, no clocks keeping time and most importantly no competitors locked in some match or game to be the Victor. Somewhere along the way record executives and business men began charting and ranking musical achievements as a way to monetize and capitalize on musicians and performers popularity. As these practices became known they moved into the publics consciousness as an ad-hoc form of sportifying the ART that is popular music. And the public just blindly went along with this concept without questioning why a major part of the arts community suddenly had been hijacked and hacked into some perverse competative entity that started to feel more like a new sport than just enjoying it for the beauty and enrichment it's brings to the world as it's true self which is art. You never hear a young person say that their dream is to become a "competative singer" when they grow up. In fact I think that most performers never view their fellow entertainers as their rivals to be beaten. Some of them perhaps but only because they've been conditioned as such by the management at their labels and industry executives. I definitely do not believe that Janet views her career with her peers as her competitors that she is determined to go up against and win no matter what the odds. No one performer can truly "win" anyway since there's no game or rules that can be applied across the board to award them points for ... So when I hear these comments about the "competative artists" of the 80s and 90s being the reason we got so many legends from it literally makes me dissappointed and frustrated that that is the way music is seen by most nowawdays. There's not a real competition and there's no way to comprehensively qualify one artist and being a better "player" than another artist. Music is subjective and each of us individually like the way some music sounds over others. That doesn't make those others less or mean that they should be discounted. It's just means you are drawn to and enjoy certain types of music. That's because music is art not sport and is not created to dominate or win over different types of music. Fans that tear other music down or are disrespectful to artists that create different music bring nothing but negativity to something that is meant only to entertain, to inspire, to help us process emotions, to tell a story, to take us to other places and times and realities other than our own. They are created to memorialize moments and people and parts of our collective history. They are created to help us connect, to raise awareness, to sow peace and joy and to make us think. There can't be comparisons and ranking in music because each type that is created only serves to make the art of music more full and rich and a better telling of who we are as humans. More music diversity shouldn't be labelled as winners and losers it should be viewed as a truer and more complete medium that helps tell our collective story. Please try to untrain your way of thinking that puts art such as music into a forced and unnatural habitat of competition. You may not enjoy all of it's various types and interpretations but by making it a sport where only the winners get recognition or are remembered just undermines us as the rich creative and beautiful species we are.
Janet deserves this honor and so much more. Her Rhythm Nation album was the first non gospel album that my father ever let me buy and it is still my favorite to this day
Janet Jackson control album at the time a lot of people didn't think she could be able to do it without her family involved in it and she prove her point did it well and good as hell....
I’m so proud of her. Been a fan my entire life. It kinda broke my heart that for the first time ever she didn’t mention Michael by name, I’m sure that broke her heart too. But once again by not mentioning his name, she was protecting him and his legacy like a true sister. Because who knows what that audience would have done. She is so amazing. My face hurts from smiling for 20 minutes.
So glad that she thanked Angela Winbush, Rene Moore and Leon Sylvers for the work on her 1st albums. "Young Love" and "Come Give Your Love To Me" still sounds great today.
The music industry never tried to destroy her. The fact is that in 2004 Janet was almost 40 years old and her music career was naturally slowing down and if you look at her Super Bowl performance it was rather sub par and dull. Also, artists such as Beyonce and Mya were far younger and heating up the radio in 2004. Just look at the first released record and video from 2004's the Damita Jo album and you will clearly see its luke warm and isn't on par with Janet's past successful records... Anyway, careers naturally decline and I think that is what happened with Janet..Mariah Carey has released new music and videos recently and it hasn't caught on fire. Mariah is 49 years old competing with a young 20 something Ariana Grande..
@@mamadouaziza2536 I don't understand what does age have to do with it I mean Beyoncé still big and she's nearly 40 and Jlo is nearly 50 she's still big to, I don't get it?
@@BILL-uh3tr I'll explain it... Beyonce nor J-Lo are selling multi platinum albums anymore in the USA like they did when they were in their 20s... The market is youth driven and thats a fact.. Look at Ariana Grande, she looks like a teenager and a lot of her fans are girls under the age of 15.. If Tina Turner released a pop record in 2019 and that record is up against Taylor Swift / Ariana Grande, who's record is going to receive airplay and who's record is going to sell on iTunes? Artists like J-Lo, Beyonce, Madonna, Janet, Celine Dion and Mariah could release new music but it will not appeal to the younger generation. These artists continue to have strong touring and tv careers based on their catalogue of music. Trust me, there will come a time when Beyonce will no longer be the 'IT' girl as she ages... Janet was selling less and less by 2004. Janet's album 'All For You' sold less than 'Velvet Rope' and that album sold less than the 'janet' album.. By the time Janet started experimenting with her sound and using different music producers in 2006 and 2009 the music industry and the public were fixated on Beyonce. Also, it didn't help Janet much that she always used a backing vocal track when she performed.. One of the great things about Janet is that she does write and produce much of her music. The reason why superstar Paula Abdul fell off in music was because she did not write or produce and by the time pop music became popular again in 1999 and in the early 2000s Paula was suffering from chronic back pain and could not perform those dance routines..
