Enjoyed that. Been thinking of doing this to get back into backpacking as I haven't picked up a pack since an injury in April. I have done the Scottish National trail up to West Linton and visually was going to use your first 2 camps and possibly on the route down to Wooler or the hostel in Wooler. Haven't figured the rest out yet

Once it becomes type 3 fun, time to stop imo. Annoying thing is, it's such a fine line between types 2 & 3. I think you made the right choice.
Seemed the perfect weather for it, though it probably didn't seem it on the uphill sections!
We've just done the last 60-ish km of the Limestone Way (not interested in the bit outside the Peak District) going North from Fenny Bentley last Tue to Thurs, and tbh it was too hot for me (I measured 30°C on Wednesday at about 3pm, 28 the Thursday). Hard going, and we did (I measured) 24km on our biggest day? We always do regular breaks with shoes and socks off, but dear lord the last couple of hours each day was a reyt push. So glad I now warm up and down each day, and the feet always get a going over with a cork ball and some talc at the end of each day. And we mostly site-camp!
Big-ups to the both of you managing that first go of it.
The unfortunate thing is, it's even more addictive than over-nighters.

Aye, was a good adventure. I think I would plan for maybe 16 - 20 kms per day (10 - 12 miles) to enjoy and chill, and to stop and look at rocks, fossils, trees and fungi and stuff. Maybe have a lie-in and slum around one or two mornings too. Kind regards.

Really enjoyed watching your trip. The SCW is something I've been thinking about on and off, so it's good to see what the reality is. Lots of honesty from yourself. You're right - the end goal is just to get out and appreciate the natural world, anything else is just a bonus. Well done to you both, atb, Graham

Great looking route the SCW Steven. I am familiar with quite a few places it visits, Melrose, Kirk Yetholm, Yeavering Bell, etc. Totally agree re taking your time and having a more immersive experience with the landscape. Enjoyed the chicken of the woods too....not tried that yet. Best wishes, Chris 🍻

Brought a tear to my eye that did............ Not for the philosophical ending, but for the recognition of your pain! I did the SCW last year, in reverse. I was staying with family in Bamburgh/Seahouses after some time in Cheviots and woke one morning and decided I needed to do a few days on a trail...... What an idiot..... I was fair goosed after it, canny shank that. ATB

Absolutely a good call mate. It’s so easy to chase targets and miss out on so much along the way…just like life in general..I was in the Lakes bagging hills in all weathers and sometimes not even seeing a mountain top for the clag…then the 💡 moment happened and I’m a million times more chilled and enjoying just taking it all in…as you will do too mate ✌️

Great Video its lovely seeing both of you out together 🙂I stopped going out with the intention of finishing a trail couple of year ago, i tend to start on a trail now but wander off and enjoy my time out, or ill give myself more time than i need. For me, i was missing the enjoyment of nature around me, and i was just battering myself to get as many miles in as i could. Im far happier now and dont need physio every time i go out lol

Enjoyed that mate, tfs. Ive never understood the desire to bash out 20+ miles a day on trails. I'm also considerably older than you and past it anyway 😂. We go out to enjoy the countryside so take your time. Pop into a pub, cafe, river, church, museum, whatever takes your fancy. Love the banter between you and Jess, keep up the good work.

I really enjoyed this. Your vlogs are cool, always a bit of interest and chat, you always seem in the moment and that’s the way to be. If it’s just head down churning out the miles what’s the point? And I think you both realised that. Absolutely the right thing to do and hats off to you both!
