I watched your SNT series twice already cause we are doing it starting April 19, 2024. I will be vlogging as well. Great video! But for the life of me, i cannot figure out what British dialect you're speaking. Lol. I am an American and an Anglophile so I am always fascinated with anything British. :) My British friend saud maybe Manchester?? Or Lancaster?. Hehe.
You have no idea how much that hurts 😁. I am from Yorkshire ( we have a historical rivalry with Lancashire). Leeds accent. Thanks for watching. I hope you have as good a time as I did. It will be a very different experience to trails in the US. My wife and I backpacked the Colorado trail last year and have walked in the grand canyon and sierra Nevada too. Beautiful but very different. Hope you get decent weather
@@huntonthetrails ohhhhh.....how the hell did I not recognize a Yorkshire accent??? Ive done Coast to Coast 3 times!!! I am so sorryyy...i am familiar about Lancaster vs York history. 😂 Ive subscribed to your channel and saw your Colorado trail thru-hike. Great job. I was on the CT around the same time but after day 12, Ive had enough and got homesick so i went home after I reached Twin Lakes. I did WHW abd CWT this year so I know what it's like already. My husband hasnt thru-hiked anything this long so I hope he won't give up on me. :)
@@hikersheepwow well if you have done the cwt you know what to expect. What I enjoyed about the SNT was the change of scenery as you move north. As for your husband , well, Judith did the CT having never walked anything like that distance before, so he will be fine 😊.
@huntonthetrails was it painful for Judith on the CT since she never walked that long before? Im sctually watching your series again for the 3rd time...ive gotten used to your accent now I can understand every word easily!! Yayyy!! Ill be using only the WalkHighland app for maps...is that enough?
@@hikersheepIt was difficult for her as on many days she was at her physical limit. However, when she puts her mind to something she is very determined. Walk Highlands maps were fine for me although I did also take the cape wrath trail Harvey's maps for that section. Route finding is generally ok ( but no signposts except on the recognised trails such as st Cuthbert's). Only dodgy bit for me was some forest tracks after mandally on day 19. Good luck with the weather. It will be a fantastic adventure.
Thank you so much for sharing these videos. I'm planning to do the Scottish National Trail myself this year and was concerned about the ease of wild camping further south, your videos are helping greatly with planning!
That's fantastic. What a great adventure you have to look forward to. There are spots to camp on the section to Edinburgh, the main challenge is water supply. Make sure you take a filter. If you have any questions at any point in your planning send me a message and I will gladly help. I put grid references in the notes underneath the videos where I wild camped.
@@huntonthetrails so glad I read this first post and answer. I can't see much anywhere else in regards to camping spots, particularly in the Borders where I am relatively unfamiliar. I have done the CWT twice and so have those maps - did you use maps on other stages or do you think the gpx files were good enough?
@@Earlofmar1 Hi. I used the maps on walkhighlands. They have a map of the whole route. I printed and laminated them in sections, but you could download them on your phone. I found this worked fine.
Thanks for pointing me to your videos on Walk Highlands! I am really enjoying the videos and will watch them all - really enjoying your sense of humour. However, I will watch your videos for the stages after Morvich after I've completed the trail myself in June. It's all set and prepped, I just need to wait now. If I have energy, I will walk off Cape Wrath to Durness as should have two days to spare - but this might be wishful thinking after the gruelling 10 days to get to the Cape. (Yes, I know about the bus + ferry.) Great videos! - but I can see why you were jealous of my weather on the Cluanie Inn to Morvich stretch!
You have a fantastic 10 days to look forward to. I don't think you will find them gruelling. In general it is more challenging, but no more so than some of what you have already done. Enjoy and take it all in. I hope you get good weather. Oh and be prepared for the midges.
@@huntonthetrails Thanks! Ah yes, the midge! They got me that morning at Bynack. It was still, cloudy and there was more midge that morning than air, it seemed to me. I had never packed my tent that fast! Got Smidge and a midge net, so prepared for the tiny guys.
Hello. Good video and hike. Looks a great trail. Would love to get the time to do it. Really enjoyed watching and subbed you. Going to watching the rest of your trail series. Atb Steve 👍
Love the videos - i live in the borders and did the St Cuthberts in January this year. Just a quick info update - The Eildons are pronounced "Eeldon" 🙂🙂
Thank you. Me and my wife loved the borders. We have been back twice since and have even talked about moving there. As or my pronunciation, you cannot expect a Yorkshireman to get that right !
Thank you. Im glad you are enjoying it. I got the tent on ebay for £95. Took a punt on it and it worked out brilliantly. Ive checked it out and you can still get them for that price.
Hey there! I love watching your videos about SNT! I did the trail in May 2015 and will return in 2025 to walk the trail again! Just want to ask you which month of the year you did your walk. Just ask because of the weather! I had more than 20 days of rain. :-D I know, May 2015 was one of the rainiest may in Scotlands history. :-D I´m looking forward to your answer. Greets from Austria, René
Hi Rene. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. I did the SNT in September last year. I had 20 days where it didn't rain. May and September are usually the best months. I just happened to be even more lucky than usual.
Fantastic. I did a video on the kit I took. It's a tough trail so getting the balance of equipment and weight to be carried is important. It's a great adventure. I hope you enjoy it.
