My favorite song by Pilot was Magic, I remember buying the record, I am also a fan of Elton John and bought all of his albums over the years, One of my favorite songs of Elton was Nikita, I remember loving the bass on that song,, then I found out many years later it was David Paton playing the bass, that was awesome, another of my favorites is Games people play, and David played on that.
😢I've been pleasantly reunited with the music of David Paton. I had a huge crush on him when I was 8 to 10 hrs old, lost track of David Paton until his work with Alan Parsons,& now re introduced to Pilots' library of music. Great interview gave me alot of data about Davids'past & his present musical compilations. He is doing good & very handsome for his age. Thank you David Paton for being you & your wonderful contributions to the music industry & the many memories in the many lives your music has had association with! God bless you & yours! " 'Lil Bit " here thanks you for your interview & wishes you much more success in your area of interests/music
Great stuff. Extraordinarily, Pilot are inextricably linked with my memories of the new-fangled radio-alarm unit of the early 70's - with Capital Radio (in London). Waking up to "Magic" ...
Absolutely fabulous interview and really interesting and in-depth. Loved the Pilot era, AP Project and David's solo work. Well done for making David feel so at ease as it really allowed the interview to flow.
Thank you for this interview with David Paton. I enjoy it very much ! So nice to hear from him directly how many things were going. Fan since 1975, i was 14, fan for ever. Pilot music will always make me happy.
as a 9 -10 boy growing up in the 70s we had Sweet,Slade, the Rubettes,Mud,Glitter band Bay City Rollers ,Pilot being on Supersonic they were s brilliant underrated not a pop boy band David Paton stuck to his principles and he is still respected today
David I just missed you playing at the Cragburn Gourock when you did your stint with The Bay City Rollers. So glad you left to set up Pilot a band I admired. I started playing in 1971 but it wasn’t until the 1980s that I decided to go full time, which was a bit late as the music scene had changed drastically. Pilot, The Marmalade, Average White Band, Tear Gas/ Alex Harvey , Gerry Rafferty and The Beachcombers were all very successful Scottish bands. ruclips.net/video/c6PbHXhlByo/видео.htmlfeature=shared
"Lucky for some" is great and reminds of ELOs "The Whale" I would put Pilot in with ELO,Supertramp and 10cc also Jigsaw as best producers of singles in the 70s
David your never gonna believe this. But I'm probably the biggest fan of the band. Mainly when magic was released. I was about 11. But my ears for music were really developed I can already sing perfect harmony. Master drummer. Keyboards and guitar . And when I heard magic. The production was so tight and the db s were like extra loud or something in the mix. I knew. I wanted to be a pop star after hearing how incredible the vocals sounded on this track not to mention the great guitar work and bass. The whole arrangement just build and builded. Right up to the last drum triplt thanks. For starting my carrer
For some reason I've grown to prefer January over Magic. Still have the vinyl single! Oddly enough the three blokes in the picture don't look anything like the group I know from TOTP.
Your story sounds alot like mine i also longed for complicated music like rock fusion. Even got into alot of jazz. I went from listening to the Beatles Monkees and the sound of music and God spell. To zepplin. Elo. Styx supertramp pink Floyd. Black Sabbath. And rush , yes and just about every thing that was bei g played on fm and am radio In the states. I had my first band when I was 10. The next band 14. The next band 16 the next band 20. From 21 to. 33. I played 6 and 7 nights a week all covers . And double gigs sonetimes Alot of live exposure. Than I started recording my own.
Now I'm torn between getting back out there on my own. Which I can do. Or play with a full band. God is leading me in weird directions. Like carrying the message of freedom.
David hasn't lost his amazing smile , I always thought when watching pilot on totp etc back in thd day ' there's a man who's loving what he's doing 😊

What I find interesting is that in 1975, David said that he considered "January" to be a better song than "Magic".
Well, they are both excellent!
Me encanta a mi como cantante
I always think of the Ozempic commercial!🤣😂

Still cute in his seventies !
I AM FROM ACAPULCO AND A REMENBER THE SONG MAGIC IN 1976.
Now I'm torn between getting back out there on my own. Which I can do. Or play with a full band. God is leading me in weird directions. Like carrying the message of freedom.
TREMBLING is a extremely underated and underknown song.
It is excellent and specially the late`s Ian Bairnson rifs.
