      I've heard some stories about US Coast Guard basic back then,......that it was incredibly brutal. Depends on your own outlook & physical adherence I guess, but still it must've been a bit like never-ending Hell.

Romeo company reverted dang near half it's people. Sierra 10 percent. He said his drill instructors in Sierra rwere very tough but they were willing to work with recruit that were having difficulties in something. Yeah they would berate you while they were helping you but they would still help. He said in Romeo company all they would do is berate you and try to get you revertef

I don't know if the guys have it harder or what. There's a RUclipsr who was in the Army and he went through CG boot camp and said it was harder, so don't expect it to be a walk in the park.

      Sierra-172. My company, my sister company, the companies that were assigned before, had to experience how to deal with a suicide. That shook the base to the core. You had FUN at Coast Guard bootcamp? WOW, you don't hear that every day of the week. When I went through Cape May the Coast Guard had a competition with the Marine Corps to have the toughest boot camp. If you were a slob or screwed up when I was there you'd be on your way to a living hell in the dreaded Red Belts (now called Performance Enhancement Platoon - PEP) so fast your head would spin. I once saw a guy in Red Belts who had a badly swollen leg who was forced to keep running with his full sea bag until his leg broke as he was running up the steps to enter the mess hall and his Company Commander then went over and poured himself a cup of coffee as the recruit lay on the floor of the chow hall screaming in pain. The Company Commander loudly told the staff in the chow hall NOT to call the ambulance because the recruit wasn't going anywhere until the Company Commander had finished his coffee, which he did sit down and drink while the kid lay on the floor screaming in pain with a broken leg. After the CC finished his coffee they called the ambulance and took the guy to the hospital. Some Company Commanders are great people and some are flaming assholes who like to abuse their authority over young recruits. Come prepared for the toughest eight weeks of your life at Cape May. They run a tight ship and they don't tolerate any bullshit. And YES, it will be worth it in the long run. Just keep telling yourself - A few weeks of pain for a lifetime of honor and pride. You CAN do it! Good Luck.

      Cape May is the only Coast Guard boot camp for enlisted personnel since 1981 and YES it is extremely difficult. The Coast Guard currently accepts only four percent of applicants and nearly one out of five of them will not graduate from basic training. That being said, the USCG is a great organization filled with top-notch people who do amazing work. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

      Hey Ricky, I am a resident of Virginia and I am looking at different military branches to consider. Did you get to select your location as far as being stationed in Virginia? I would love to stay in the area but we will see what happens.

      Hmmm..... How about doing negative Gs in the HU25A Falcon jet! We had some cool pilots, both of them were academy. We were cruising about 35.000 feet. The pilots asked if everyone has done a negative G. I said no! They immediately pushed over into a dive! I unbuckled my belt and started floating!! Soo cool! It felt like the going down the first big hill on a rollercoaster! Your stomach in your throat! Just like the astronaut training in the vomet comet. It just didn't last as long! The worst memory?? Dunker training! It simulates an open water crash and you have to successfully egress the plane. 2 day sims and 2 night sims where they make you wear blacked out goggles! It was conducted by Navy Seals. I hated every minute of that!! ruclips.net/video/hXwnBiDaYRg/видео.html

      CS?? Cook Specialist?? Chef Specialist?? LOL!! It's changed a little since I was in! I got lucky and never had to do the mess duty! I was an FA and was standing the EOW, Engineer of the Watch. I was an E2 over the E3 duty standers!! They were making their rounds and I was fishing on the fantail!! I loved it!! LOL!! So, did they put you on a whitehull??

    • @still13jay

      LMAO!!!! Lucky you!!! Lucky that you don't have to fix it!!! I can't even imagine a 278' cutter!! I was on a 70' black hull buoy tender that pushed a 90' buoy barge! Luckily for us, the BMMC had this billet before! And yes! He was the commanding officer of our unit! He knew all of the stops on the river where there was a bar or beer store within walking distance!! Yes, we moored up every night on the side of the river. And 1 day, there was no beer store close! 2 BMs took off on bikes to go get some beer. The farmer saw them, saw the uniforms, and said HEY!!! Take that old farm truck to the beer store!!! LMAO!!!!! Yes Maam!!! He let them take his truck!!! I LOVE the Coast Guard!! Love the people!!! Miss it!!! Enjoy it sweetie!! It doesn't last forever!!

    What if you don’t know how to swim?? Do they teach?

    • @linnea8410
      @linnea8410 6 лет назад +1

      Josie G it's to be expected that you know how to swim. If you aren't good at it, they will make you get up earlier than everyone else to practice, other wise you'll get reverted if you can't complete it. Hope that makes sense!
