A One Year Review of the Best Choice Walk-in 15x7x7 Greenhouse! Is it Worth it?

  • This is my one year review of my Best Choice Walk-in 15x7x7 Greenhouse. This is an inexpensive greenhouse with a plastic cover. It is not a permanent structure and may not last more than two years. You may extend its life by taking it down during the summer and storing it until it is needed again. This can extend you fall growing season and start your spring plating season early. I was able to over winter my plants but I had to use supplemental heat to do so. I spent approximately $100 a month in electricity running my small heater. I am glad I purchased this greenhouse, it has worked for me but I would not purchase another one, I would look for a more permanent structure and pay the extra money for it. I hope you enjoyed this greenhouse review!

    G'day Kathy.
    That was really good. Thanks. I'm dropping hints to my wife about something like this from Santa.
    Great idea with the plastic on the door. The zip is broken on my small, walk in one and I should do what you did.
    All the best.

    Great review! Thank you in particular for the end where you explained some of the problems you were having. This is important information. I also thought that the plastic would last, at best, 3 years. However, I've been researching DIY greenhouses and I think I'm going to go ahead and get one of these because, when the plastic life ends I may be able to get greenhouse plastic for the main part and then build a door structure for either end that has more bracing. I live in Central Oklahoma and we get some nasty wind and I need to make sure that the structure will be sound. Don't think any kind of bracing would stand a tornado, but God willing I won't ever have to contend with that.

    • @MyAlabamaFarmLife
      @MyAlabamaFarmLife  Год назад

      the plastic is still good but I do not expect it to last too much longer. I have greenhouse plastic and want to build a door and continue using it to extend my seasons. The price at the time was too cheap to pass up. thank you so much for your comment!

    I have a 12x7x7 starting with the inside I used 3\8 rebar x4’ and pounded in ground at each corner pole and zip tied to poles on outside with extra covering they give you I put down 2x4 x8’ then set a few cinder blocks on top , rebar and cinder blocks are fairly cheap, I was concerned about burying anything as to it may rot faster ? I live in Reno NV and if you check this was a record winter , I took plenty of videos all winter, this is my first winter/summer and I am 100% happy so far , it’s also next to a fence and above each door i attached a vice grip to it with cloth under it and angled each to fence , front and back , so far I got past Mother Nature but you can’t always fool Mother Nature.

      This is true! I am happy with my in ground anchors but I have clay and rock soil so it has kept the greenhouse in place for 3 years now. Sounds like you have a good set up but like you said you cant always fool mother nature! Have a great day!

    The window screen material rots in under a year. Collapses if you get high winds or a freak snow storm. I live in Ny and my 10x20 was $200. Used sand bags to secure it to the ground. If you get 2 years out of the greenhouse cover… I would be surprised. It can take a decent amount of snow without collapsing but the cover material degrades quickly with a snow load.

    • @MyAlabamaFarmLife
      @MyAlabamaFarmLife  2 года назад

      Mine is over a year and the mesh is still okay but the Velcro is not secure in cold weather. The plastic is still good and I sunk 18 inch ground screws which has kept it down in high winds. We get straight-line winds here during spring. It is definitely not a permanent structure but it has the metal frame and I’m thinking about replacing the plastic with green or clear plastic sheeting but that’s another project! Happy Easter!

    • @Dwq47
      @Dwq47 2 года назад +1

      @@MyAlabamaFarmLife The mesh is very fragile, I bet your hand goes through it like butter. Not that I would suggest destroying it like that lol but I think you’ll find it may have degraded significantly.

    • @MyAlabamaFarmLife
      @MyAlabamaFarmLife  2 года назад +1

      I don't have any moisture build up on the roof and If the heater is running the snow shouldn't stick but this might not be a good fit for a lot of snow unless you have a method to keep it heated above freezing. Good question Thanks!

  • @jackiecaldwell6898
