- Castlevania director Sam Deats and assistant director Adam Deats shared with us their favorite scenes from the show. Here is a scene from Season 1, Episode 3, "The Good Dream," and why they like it so much.
"This was our first peek at the infinite corridor, a visual problem we solved mostly with digital VFX. We went through many, many variants to ensure we'd find something that felt right thematically, and to push a sense of psychedelia referenced from 60s and 70s film. We eventually landed on the teal and pink color scheme, the same one shared by the "The Beast" shown in episode 3. This helped us link the two together."

@@kirkcannon8079 I think differently.... The thing he was swinging looked like a traditional throwing weapon, like a slingshot, but with sharpened rocks. (A part of my country's traditional culture is similar to this). He could have been killed if the door didn't close in time... (Of course that's only referencing to some traditional culture, perhaps he was doing the magic to close the door)
@@pshrillart3461 it was actually a Bullroarer. It’s a swinging instrument used for music mostly. A lot of cultures actually have something similar.
Thats actually not true, by the 1400s the african and arab nations had extensive maps of Europe for 100s of years they even ruled areas of europe on occasion.

This is absolutely one of my favorite scenes in the whole show, its so unsettling and lets you know how terrifying and misterious magic realy is, it really made me feel like i was watching an animated recreation of H.P lovecraft's Randolph Carter's adventures
I love this scene because it explains and shows so little of what we know of magic.
We've seen vampires, monsters, and demons but the Infinite Corridor is a horror of its own league

As an Australian, It was cool to see they depicted our universe with the Aboriginal witch doctor in front of Uluru. And if you are wondering, they do in fact have those whistling sticks (Bullroarer, used for lone range communication).
But to see them used as a tool to close the infinite corridor was an especially interesting idea.
I think it was used more in the sense of a talisman to drive away evil spirits. In the same way you would yell loudly to drive away large predators/animals when you go hiking etc. Or have to shoo something away. Don't get me wrong I understood with what you called the tool and it's purpose etc. Just for the context of the portal I'm thinking talisman.

Honestly they pulled off the multiverse of madness concept in 6 minutes than that whole movie did and they had 2 hours
this scene really shocked me...I'm happy they uploaded it ... I don't know what to think, they were so bold using different animations only to make it more bizarre. I don't think the spacecraft is from Alien saga but is obviously based on. The tropical forest also... such mood. The aztec "futuristic" architecture also intrigues me, who are running? look like super heroes

This was a wonderful scene. I was not expecting something like this. It was unique to me.
I remember binge watching this season thinking it was as compelling as Game of Thrones. I honestly couldn't believe I thought that. Crazy how animated shows have evolved and are taken seriously by the viewers as well as the creators.
You should check out primal if you hadn't, it's one of the most engrossing shows I've ever watched, and there's like 2-3spoken words at the last episode

Yea I'm surprised as well how much talent there is nowadays. This show is overlooked due to new gen shonen, and even i avoided watching this for so long and am glad i watched it. In my Top 10 for sure and needs more props
@@saltytoast6669 season 3 is the only one that caught my attention Lenore and Hector, Isaac wandering the earth, this guy tormented by some C'Thulu influence, the satanic cult, the Nier Automata future, that's interesting in so many ways, Dracula keeps the plot simple and for me non appealing, I have always disliked the emo vampire approach, but to be honest this chapter was like the 90's X-Men where the lore was just so interesting and big and you wanted the show to cover all of the history.
Honestly Castlevania was the original Dark Souls I am glad they tried that storytelling at least for this episode.

This scene might just be my favorite scene in the whole show. It's just so strange & mind boggling. Castlevania was such a great ride from start to finish
Nearly an entire year has past since I first watched this, and I still think what I thought after processing it: The woman is Maria Renard, and she is Saint-Germain's apprentice and/or adopted daughter.
That wouldn't fit her backstory given that she's supposed to be an aristocrat who after been rescued by Richter Belmont went on to train with a japanese clan of vampire hunters to become a ninja and hunt vampires on her own. Not only does she have no reason at all for wanting to become a timetraveler but it wouldn't make any sense for Saint Germain to have a person who hasn't even born yet as his apprentice(Maria was born in 1780). If you were to ask me which Castlevania character could the individual shown in this scene actually be the only character that comes to mind is the androgynous timetraveler *Aeon* from Castlevania Judgement(which is technically non canonical):

According to Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi Aeon is also a member of the same group of timetravelers that Saint Germain is a part of meaning there's a high chance they know each other. Since the Netflix series has been pretty much confirmed it's not going for a 100% faithful adaptation of it's source material it's possible(and i would argue probable) that the writers will consider taking ideas from across the entire Castlevania franchise as a means to write original ideas that would nonetheless keep the unique "tone" inherent to the entire series(wether it's from a game in the canon timeline or a non canoncal story). In summary... while it can't be Maria Renard given her ninja backstory it could be Aeon from Castlevania Judgement.
@@javiervasquez8995 True...If the show were to portray her exactly as she is in the games, which most of the cast has avoided. The way I see it, the show can keep what’s essential to Maria (appears as a girl or young woman, and overpowered in summoning magic) by falling into the Corridor and absorbing some of its power as a child. Plus the real Saint Germain lived during the same era when Maria was born in game timeline, but that's playing loose.
@@UmisTsukishiro00 Look the character of Maria is arguably one of the most iconic characters of the entire Castlevania franchise due to her role in the events of Rondo of Blood, Symphony of the Night and the audiodrama sequel to Symphony where her relationship with Alucard serves as the catalyst that convinces him to give his human side a chance at a happy life by living with her in a cottage and possibly forming the Lecarde Clan who would go on to assist the Belmonts in fighting Dracula. Should the Netflix series introduce a reimagined version of Maria who's just a timetraveler who meets Adrian at a point in his life where he lacks all of his inherent stoic personality traits which made his canonical relationship with her shown in the audiodrama that much more intimate that would completley trash one of the best emotional storylines of the entire game series in favor of yet another crappy recycled timetravel plot all because apparently it seems people are incapable of waiting for a more seasons before they touch upon the events of Symphony of the Night. I myself have no problem having some characters been slightly rewritten so as to both subvert our expectations of what we might see and give us some original stories that wouldn't just be copy pasted straight out of the games yet if we're talking about character relationships which lead to a profound effect in a specific character's arc(such as in the case of Dracula with Lisa and later Alucard with Maria) it wouldn't make any sense for the writers to completley dismiss such key story points later down in the games's timeline just to shoehorn reimagined versions of the original characters with basically none of their inherent backstories that made their storylines so endearing and engaging to fans in the first place. To have Maria suddenly show up now as a timetraveler would ruin the character by completley ignoring her key role during the events of Symphony of the Night and her entire storyarc with Alucard after he awoke from his 300 year long sleep.
By the way even if Saint Germain was around during the events of Rondo and Symphony it would still make no sense for Maria to be his apprentice/lover/wathever given the man's old age and his clear words in season 3 suggesting he may have been "intimately" connected to the person in the Infinite Corridor. I assure you it would most definetly piss off the entire Castlevania fanbase if Adi Shankar ended up rewritting Maria Renard as the timetraveling lover of some old perv who may very well be a pedophile in disguise given the fact his real life counterpart is at least 60 years older than Maria's canonical year of birth.

The way he narrowed his eyes at Germain, I think the mystic knew who he was or aware of the trouble he brings and just.. closed the portal his own way. Kind of cool since he did it flawlessly since Germain seem to struggle closing the portal last season.

For some reason when he brought out the journal and started to monologue it made me think of the times I was a child and enjoying life wanting to stay up , reminds me of my mother being in my life and all the memories about that. Really brings the emotions out. Maybe I should stop watching clips and just watch the entire episodes

If you know about warren ellis work, you'd know about The Bleed. The Bleed is a interdimensional plane that connect all worlds, thus, all multiverses. St. germain entered The Bleed in a different way, if you think about it.

According to the castlevania wiki.
- The first realm we see at 1:25 is mostly a reference to the Metal Gear Solid series (another game under Konami) as the machine seen resembles a metal gear.
- According to another comment (will post the full comment below) the second one at 2:00 is referencing some sort of Mayan society (Probably Atlantis).
- Third realm we see at 3:00 is most likely a reference to the space ship the engineer's use in the the Alien spin-off "Prometheus".
- The fourth realm (which is my personal favorite) seen at 2:50 is a reference to Marvel character called Gateway, who is an Aboriginal mutant that can open and close gateways to other places (hence how he can see St. Germain and also closed the gateway he was looking in).

This whole dream sequence was just one big love deaths and robots teaser.
I'm still sad that the following season will be the series finale. The lore will live on throughout the connecting shows but not seeing them playout is heartbreaking, no doubt. 😞
There's still going to be another Castlevania show, this is just the end of the Trevor/Sypha and Hector/Isaac stories (which they're already really dragging out to fit a fourth season)

@@TheDirector999 by "living through other shows" I thought they meant the show's universe that we would see DMC, or Assassin's creed would hint at some plot elements of Castlevania living through their story. Once they confirmed Castlevania's sequel series I have no other doubts we'll see the plot live on its own maybe hinting and events possibly cameoing onto other shows.

They certainly did a good job of illustrating just how much of an assault on the senses this place is.
It's really rare for American TV to portray First Nations people, and although somewhat inaccurate combining Castlevania lore with the dreaming (Somewhere between time and space where spirits live) was really good. When the elder knew Germain was there symbolizes Indigenous Australians connection to the earth and knowledge of spirits. Plus the bullroarer is not only a way of communicate but to ward off evil spirits and he warded off a strange whitefella.
Did you wonder if they are referencing "Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" series with the pyramid and people running with auras at 2:10. He played a role in those books too.

The golden city bridge in the dream/portal is full of mayan/epi-olmec glyphs carved on it and also giant step pyramids much like teotihuacan and copan and many other places in central america.
This was a smart hint into the legend of atlantis, not only from plato but from the the tulan myth in mayan legend perspective and the aztlan myth among the aztecs and nahuatls, and also blavatsky theosophy which implies that the amerindian race of the red man and the higher cultures among them were the reminiscent of the once all powerful atlanteans of antediluvian ages. In blavatsky theosophy the main atlantis capital is also called ''the city of the golden gates'' and it was destroyed by natural disasters much like the plato myth and also the myths of the 4 ''suns'' or eras among the Mesoamerica cosmogony. In this actual myth of the 4 suns, it says that mankind as a whole was exterminated by the gods through 4 kinds of elemental/supernatural disasters sent by 4 major gods.
First sun ruler was Tezcatilipoca, God of magick, chaos, night and violence, first mankind of his time were prone to war and so much brutish to worship the Gods properly or construct any kind of civilization, so Tezcatlipoca destroyed them using his jaguar demons and every kind of hellish forces.
Second sun ruler was Quetzalcoatl, God of the literal sun, planet Venus, light and wind, second mankind were going well originally, but they soon turned selfish and stopped showing proper honor to the gods, so once again Tezcatlipoca disturbed the world and turned this mankind in man-beasts and monkeys, basically reversing evolution itself. Quetzalcoatl still cared for his fellow monkes but soon became disgusted of them and destroyed them and the world with his mighty storms and hurricanes.
Third sun ruler was Tlaloc, God of Rain, lightning, and thunder , its interesting and even a bit funny how mankind was destroyed this time, because the myth said that mankind were doing well for a while, but Tezcatlipoca as the chaos God had another plan, he seduced Tlaloc wife, Xochiquetzal the goddess of fertility, sex , love and agriculture and soon the crops ended up drying and people asking for rain, but Tlaloc was mad and angry so he never answered their prayers, until a time he was so upset that he sent fire instead of water and mankind was burned to the ashes.
Fourth sun ruler was Chalchiuhtlicue the new wife of Tlaloc after he broke with Xochiquetzal, Chalchiuhtlicue was the goddes of water and joy, she was beautiful and she deep cared for humanity and mankind who loved her had a great time for a while but once again, our boy Tezcaltipoca did the trick to fuck with everything, instead of seducing her, Tezcatlipoca manipulated her feelings and said mankind only care about her because she was falsely loving them and just care about their praises, so the innocent goddess with a broken heart, spent the next fifty-two years weeping tears of blood, and it inundated the earth and destroyed mankind in the process.
The Fifth sun started a bit different, there's different myths about who is the definitive ruler of this era, but we are this current mankind, and people this time weren't created but revived by Quetzalcoatl after he invaded the netherworld ruled by Mictlantecuhtli the lord of death and his wife Mictecacihuatl, lady fo death and stars. Quetzalcotl stole the bones guarded by his distorted twin, Xolotl, the hound God guardian of souls, and after he stole the bones he brought the bones of the fourth humanity to surface and gave his own blood to reset mankind. After that, there's some myths who said that the mankind ruler was Huitzilopochtli, the God of war or even the 4 sons of Tlaloc ruling it together, in any case all of the remaining myths said it will end by violent earthquakes and soon mankind will be destroyed again in this never ending circle.
Also its interesting to note that not only actual vampire bats are exclusive from south and central america rainforests but also the mesoamericans and south american civilizations and tribes worshiped bat gods of death like the well know Camazotz of the maya. Probably in future seasons it will be explained as the origin of vampires.
Probably few people would know that.

To me it seemed like he was seeing a timeline where some heroes were storming the bad guys mansion (in some alternate universe where the mayans were technologically advanced), perhaps a tyrannical cyborg mayan god king?

I smoked a joint and was watching this episode at night in the dark in my room. I was also half asleep because I was a bit tired. It honestly made this episode feel so surreal. Really felt like a trip lol. One of my best highs ever 😂

Aboriginal here. It’s possible that the man from the Northan tribe thought him to be a spirit of some kind. No alien. We have plenty of stories of beings with longer bodies, different faces and powers coming to visit us. I experience an out of body experience in almost exact same fashion as this, just that I started off by sinking through my bed into the kaleidoscope of randomly generated geometrical shapes and colours.
Next I found myself flying through the wormhole. The wall of the wormhole was mainly yellow and green which some erratic lightning patterns on the wall.
I think i flew through the wormhole for about a good one minute. I wanted to land on the “ground”….but somehow I lost concentration and immediately snapped back to my body, and felt this rubber band snapping sensation on the right side of my brain.
The stone he was holding at the end of the clip looks like the labradorite that I used to place on my head to induce out of body experience.

Fun fact about the aboriginal, there is a marvel character known as gateway who is an aboriginal and has the an ability to use his bullroarer to open portals across space, time, and different universes.

@@V8Supercar1 : not really. I'm very upset about the tragic ending for Lenore (it was totally unnecessary to do that), and also that Saint Germain turned out to be a villain, even though he got kind of a redemption in the end.
@@Aiwendil1 Yeah, I liked Lenore also. I was just glad to see that she didn't get slaughtered. But she instead chose to go out on her own. The ending of the series is just so questionable to me, because just like I told other people, if Lisa lives, then there is no more Dracula. It kinda made me realize, that they never intended to interpret the Castlevania video game franchise. They just simply took inspiration from it and made their own story.
@@V8Supercar1: I knew from the start they are making their own story, so that didn't bother me personally. I have no issue with creative approach and originality. But Lenore's finale ruined it for me, I couldn't enjoy all the happy endings for other characters because of it. And yeah, I'm glad Lenore wasn't slaughtered and they didn't make her evil in S4. She is my favorite character in the whole show.

The Infinite Corridor looks very much like warp transit in Warhammer 40k. It's similar colors often associated with the warp (especially Tzeench); including a purple portal; and at 1:06 you can see what appears to be a purple hued galaxy, or at least section of space.
The mech at 1:25 looks a lot like a Warhound titan, but more sleek and alien in appearance, walking towards a space ship, that although blurry at a distance is clearly not Imperium and possibly Xenos in origin.
No idea what's going on at 2:10, but the architecture is reminiscent of Aztec, however it is not Aztec; with people running and using either magic or advanced technology like the Asgardians.
2:40 definitely looks like the space ship belonging to the "Engineers" from Alien Covenant; but not identical.. and a moon, not necessarily ours, destroyed; just like in H.G.Well's "The Time Machine"
2:50 obviously is Uluru in Australia, no question about that.
And finally, 3:39 is similar to the painting by M.C.Escher called "Relativity." But if I was to try to place it, it could be "The Black Library" in Warhammer 40k (which has never been seen), but it's structure isn't something unseen in Warhammer 40k, as Commorragh is WH40k does have similar complicated gravity that allows for architecture that defies conventional physics.
Hell, you can even argue that "Death" seen near the end of the 4th season is/could be a chaos demon.
Anyways, if Games Workshop would allow it, they should let this studio make a Warhammer series. The dark, bloody, and violent imagery would be perfect for Warhammer.
If only they would allow other streaming service to make animations/shows instead of paying their own animators mere pocket change to make the low effort media for their steaming service, Warhammer+.
