For some fellow M1, M2 users! 1. From UTM VM option, set cores to 8. 2. From UTM VM option, set force multithread to true. This may result a bit of wanky result, but it will be far faster than just doing raw with 2 cpu like some comments suggested. 3. You will see blue screen if you use SPICE. The driver is not signed, so you need to press F8, then select the option to disable driver signature. Then will boot... :)
Thanks this worked, for the one's wondering where to find the VM multithread option - when you are at the last step there is a option open VM setting which you should tick. There you can find the multithread option.

The first attempt was unsuccessful, I got to the step just before selecting the drive in UTM and received a "this pc does not meet the system requirements" error. I deleted the UTM, erased the drive again and started over and created a new UTM. It worked the second time without changing any steps. Took about 30mins to download. I did not enable multithread as suggested by other commenters.

I'm using an M1 Mac. When I set up the virtual Windows instance it asks me to select a Windows version, in the video you selected windows pro. Regardless of what I select, I get an error saying "This PC can't run Windows 11"

Thanks for the tutorial, it gave me this error after selecting the language and everything after the boot. A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB, or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now.
Try the installation again, with the USB drive plugged into a USB 2.0 port (black connector) instead of a USB 3.0 port (blue connector). If that doesn't work, the ISO you downloaded may be corrupt. Try downloading it again and creating a new USB installation drive.

Create a key named LabConfig Select the LabConfig key. Create two new values: Choose New -> DWORD (32-bit) and create BypassTPMCheck and BypassSecureBootCheck. Set both values to 1. Close out of Registry Editor and Command Prompt. In setup, press the back button and then Next to continue installation.
this didn't work for me and I followed everything it told me that my pc doesn't support this and it's a newer Mac. I'm using a 1T flash drive too and I'm not sure if I did something wrong but I even paused the video step by step as I did it and nothing.
Note: this will NOT work with an external hard drive. It has to be a USB flash drive (mine was 8gb) or UTM will refuse to recognize it and it may even crash your macbook a few times as I found out.

I’m stuck at the part after creating the UTM when I go to play it and press and key to continue, the UTM logo pops up again like it did in the video, but instead of booting to the windows start up screen I get a screen that says “UEFI Interactive Shell v2.2” and then at the bottom it says “press ESP in 1 seconds to skip startup.nsh or any other key to continue” and no matter if I press a key or esp, nothing happens. It sounds like you don't have the Windows ISO that you downloaded mounted. If UTM can't find a drive to boot from you'll get exactly what you just described. At the 2:58 point in the video, under "Boot ISO Image", click "Browse" and choose the Windows 11 ISO you downloaded from the Microsoft website.

just an update, could not get virtual box to recognize my usb 2.0. tried ejecting from host cpu, downloading drivers, extension packs etc. as recommended could not resolve. might just be a me issue but i am doing the UTM method just thought since i had a VM creator already id try it. I am on ventura OS and expect this to work
To be honest I just went a step back and then when on the just a moment screen is loading I pressed the disk at the top right and ejected both iso usb and it took me to the windows set up page. Im not exactly sure if this is a fix or just luck

I don't understand the set force multithread to true option. I don't see that anywhere when setting up the VM

Same on M1 MacBook Air with 256gb ssd. Tried on my 2019 imac27 Intel and it worked ok. Maybe storage space or the M1 settings.

I got an error that said failed to lock byte 100?
It says “Recovery, Your PC/Device needs to be repaired” for the UTM machine

You can use windows without an activation key. You will only have the watermark at the bottom right of the screen when you use windows.
