    The main issue, and there are quite a few others, is the browser issue on iPadOS. No matter which browser you use on an iPad, you’re stuck with Apple WebKit, meaning some sites just aren’t compatible. I have one site that I use daily as a part of work that will not work on an iPad. I love the iPad, but it continues to be a companion device to my MacBook Pro. It simply can’t handle the work I need it to, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

    • @patdrummer
      @patdrummer 3 месяца назад

      That is exactly my main problem as well. If they could fix the browser issue, I would be more than happy to use the iPad Pro as my main computer.

      Would like to know what limitations? I know Apple WebKit has security issues that have since been patched, but for integration into Native Apps it works very well with a few exception (like old websites using ActiveX and other really old technology). WebKit works on iOS and MacOS the same so not sure what issues you are having?

    I purchased my 13 inch M4 iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard and new pencil pro exactly one week ago. I love it. From the superior display, to the.lightening fast browsing on line and enjoying content- this is the ultimate device. The Magic Keyboard is such an improved upgrade over the previous Pro generation- you have to use it and experience it. I also have the 11 inch M2 IPad Pro which is great and capable, and still even use my 7 year old 10.5 inch iPad Pro. I am a huge iPad Pro fan. For me, I don’t need to purchase a Macbook or a PC. I have everything I need with my iPad Pro’s.

    Mate, tell me what is different from the M2 iPad Pro, what is it that all of sudden you can do now that you couldn’t do before, the thing is still an iPad not more, not less. The M4 iPad Pro is crippled by its subpar operating system. What we need is not a thinner, faster, more prettier iPad, but a desktop class operating system for the iPad. I had a high hopes before the new iPad was released, but now I am totally disillusioned. I do think that WWDC will bring a lot of AI bullshit like customizable emojis but no significant improvements for iPadOS or even MacOS on the iPad. And by the way, the MacBook Air is more portable because “for most” people the iPad Pro goes along with the Magic Keyboard and the Air is still lighter than that package. When the first magic keyboard launched in 2020 a lot of Mac users that wanted to use the iPad more gave a lot of upfront credit to the iPad, and Apple did everything to make us believe that they have bigger plans with the iPad but the only thing that we got so far was trackpad support and a half baked stage manager. This is not enough for a well over a 1200$ iPad Pro in a laptop configuration. I don’t think that tandem OLED and a thinner body will save the iPad Pro if Apple doesn’t drastically improve the software.

    • @Wusyaname_
      @Wusyaname_ 3 месяца назад +6

      When he says that is more portable, he means without the Magic Keyboard. Like he would much rather pull out an iPad to watch content or read books, etc than the MacBook Air because it takes up more room. Also, I think it’s important to acknowledge that everyone has different needs. The software is limiting for most people, but as he says in the video, he is able to do what he needs to do on the iPad. If you a CS developer for example, you wouldn’t want an iPad because it doesn’t do that well, while artists and video editors would prefer the iPad for its portability.
      I also don’t think that there is any point to spending $1200 on this besides luxury technologies like the display and Apple Pencil. I have an iPad mini and it’s great, and if I wanted to upgrade I’d get the $800 13” air.

    Just ordered the 1TB + cellular M4 iPad Pro ... I'm pretty sure Apple will discontinue making the MacBook Air as there is just no point to it. I can use iPad Pro M4 for work (Citrix to any device on any OS). I can use iPad Pro M4 for audio creation via Logic for iOS (fully featured including plug-ins). I can do multiple monitor support with iPad Pro M4 thanks to USB-C. With cellular I don't have to tether to anything so I can work anywhere with one single device. It plays games with excellent visual quality. It can do video creation also much faster than current Mac or MacBook. Watch Netflix HDR movies or Prime. It's incredible easy to carry around. Excellent battery life and no big chunky chargers. But for those curious, definitely go with the 1TB or 2TB as you get more CPU cores and faster. I would avoid getting the "nano glass" upgrade, IMHO it's a downgrade as it reduces clarity and brightness. BTW, I'm primarily a Windows PC guy, but have always had Apple devices in some form or another ... but this is the first time Apple have produced a device to completely replace my laptop.

    Fully agree ... my iPad Pro M4 13 inch (1TB) fully replaced my 15 year old MacBook Pro and I'll not miss the MacBook. However, I was never a hardcore content creator and was also mainly using my previous iPad Pro 9,7 inch for content consumption and partly for photo editing or video cutting as the main device. Is the new iPad Pro M4 I bought worth the money ... most probably not for that usage I need it for. But is it a beautiful peace of engineering? Definitely yes and that is why I was ready to buy it and it will definitely open my mind and motivation to explore new areas of usage.

    Good content. I think the only real problem, for me, to only have iPad as main computer is that it’s a too much cloud oriented machine. That is Apple should implement (at least on Air and Pro) a sort of TimeMachine and permit apps as Photo to store its database locally and that synced with cloud (as you can do with MacOs).
    Then there is the question about multi user that iPadOS doesn’t still have. It’s a complicated problem as iPad is seen by Apple as a personal device (more personal than a Mac) so multiuser could alter this paradigm and just the user experience (phone continuity and so on) but as an option I think it should be offered (especially with Air and Pro that have a price similar to a Mac)

    Quite an interesting video with an unexpected end result.As a mechanical engineer and industrial designer,I am on the PC side with my laptop and custom built water cooled dual-display workstation PC's.I am in the Apple ecosystem with my Apple Watch,Apple Watch Ultra,iPad Pro and Apple iPhone.The M4 iPad Pro cannot replace my laptop of desktop PC's as the professional engineering software is not available on the iPad.The M4 iPad Pro however can occasionally replace my laptop when I am editing drone inspection photos for clients for my drone photography and videography business.The ultimate answer as to whether the M4 iPad Pro can replace a person's laptop/desktop in their respective workflow is,it depends on what they are doing.The limiting factor to realizing the power of the M4 iPad Pro and all previous iPad Pro iterations is iPad OS.The iPad Pro will have a larger spectrum of use if and when iPad OS becomes more feature rich.

    I love my iPad and use it more then my MBP, but there are still things that limit my experience of the iPad. Example, try to create a list in Contacts vs creating a list in Contacts on the Mac. The iPad falls way short. Same with Smart lists in Mail on the iPad. That feature doesn’t even exist. I have to keep the MBP around just for certain things like this, not to mention I like to have multiple screens with multiple streams going and the iPad isn’t the preferred option for that either. Even with those caveats, I still prefer the iPad as my daily carry.

    Will most likely get an ipad this month for my birthday afetr not having an ipad for about 8 years. I'm made up my mind that I am going to getting one for screen and and I've been wanting to get back into art. I'm kind of a workaloc though, so I am wondering how well it would work for my work task. I'm a heavy Salesforce and Google Sheets user, and I often have the google sheet file open on seperate screens so I can reference other things on that same file. I'm also in constant meetings and have to share my screen a lot. It is not necessary, but ti would be nice if the chrome browser or dafari browser on the ipad would allow extensions from Salesforce to automatically import Salesforce into my worksheets. I hear the file browser is not great on the ipad. I am constantly downloading reports into a CSV file so I can copy and paste into other reporrts. I'm hoping I can also use my ipad for work, but all the reviews are basically saying that for actual work, the ipad is not great. Do you guys think I can use the ipad for work with my use case?

  •  3 месяца назад +1

    Do you have any concrete examples where the 13 inch iPad Pro can replace your computer, other than its portability? And when you say it's more portable than your MacBook Air M3, are you comparing it when it's fully clothed as a "computer" (in other words, with the magic keyboard attached) or when it's just a tablet (in which case, it cannot even pretend to be a computer)? How do you define your "average user" vs a "programmer?" I consider myself an average user (I am not a programmer, gamer, artist or a content creator) and I find my 13 inch iPad Pro M4 totally inadequate for doing anything other than content consumption and maybe browsing the web. (I bought it because I am an Apple fanboy and I am enslaved in the Apple ecosystem. I also own Apple stock.) I use Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word quite often (as an average, not a power, user) and the iPad versions of those applications are silly and cumbersome compared to the desktop versions. Casual web browsing on the iPad is fine, but I still feel a need to use my Mac for "serious" web browsing. And have you tried using Apple Stage Manager on the iPad or connecting it to an external display? It's a bad joke for those use cases. I just wish Apple would just straight up copy Samsung's DEX and stop pretending that the iPad is anything more than a giant iPhone.

    File Manager is still not improved.
    Anything we copy and paste we cannot see the progress bar.

    I have bought the m4 iPad Pro … sorry it is NOT a computer replacements. It is complementary but if you use pro apps a Mac is the only way to go . The bonus of the iPad is portability and pencil for drawing . I have a 12.9 m2 but now I decided to buy an 11 inch and I find it more ergonomically portable and usable in many ways . Using logic or FCPX on an iPad is not that much , apart from file access issues , external drive , plugins … you will never achieve a desktop experience . Though the iPad is perfect for media consumption or drawing or controlling a desktop app remotely but due to iPad os and all the limitations , far from being “pro”’

    There is no difference with the iPad Pro M4 from the previous model except for a minor reduction in weight, the benefit of which is mitigated once you add that heavy keyboard. As for productivity - no! It is not as flexible as a Mac and apps have limited capabilities. For example, in Teams on Mac I can pop-out a screen share I am viewing and have two windows, one with the people I am speaking to and one with the screen share. Go ahead, do that on an iPad! Stage Manager is a disaster for multi window management and I find myself not knowing what is going to appear at any time. Don’t get me wrong, I like my iPad Pro a lot but it is no Mac replacement, never has been and I suspect never will be

    These "Apple-biased" reviewers have been trying to convince people that the iPad can replace a computer for years, but I bet even they don't believe it.
    Can you install a fully functional IDE on it for serious software development? Can you run a VM to emulate a different OS? Can you use a container orchestrator like Docker on it? Can it host a local web server?
    Until Apple decides to allow an OS that can actually run desktop-class applications, the iPad will remain just that: an iPad, somewhere between a mobile phone and a computer, just as Jobs intended it to be.

      It’s good for the stuff 90% of people do on their laptop. Browse websites, pay bills, read and type email, trade stocks, read documents, edit some videos, and consume content. It does things MacBooks can’t do, paperless handwritten note taking, drawing tablet, measurement tool, easy document scanning, etc. The 10% of people who need coding tools locally on their device should get a proper laptop.

    • @pimisi
      @pimisi 3 месяца назад

      @@carriegordon5830 I disagree. The title does not state "most people" same as many other “Apple tech” reviewers' titles. What I listed is just a small example of what it’s limited on even though the hardware has the potential.
      Don't get me wrong, I do own an iPad (since the very first model), an iPhone (since the very first model), and a MacBook Pro, so it's not that I dislike Apple. However, Samsung’s tablets with their DeX application can perform tasks more akin to a proper desktop or laptop computer. Yet, this capability is often overlooked, and the iPad is pushed to seem more capable than it actually is due to "blind loyalty."
      There’s a saying “give honor to whom honor is due”. Until Apple provides a software that can actually harness the potential of the device I’ll forever see it as just a device between a smartphone and a computer.

      You're absolutely right. In the video, I tried to generalize and even mentioned that neither the OLED display nor the M4 chip were reasons for the switch. All iPads work the same way hence they can replace the MacBook.

      In his M4 iPad Pro review he literally says you don’t need to upgrade from the M1/M2 lol

    I made the switch from the 11inch to the 13 inch, best decision on portability

    It still runs Ipad OS. Which is crap. Still rocking my 2019 16 inch macbook pro. Why spend $2k for a bigger iPhone?
