    Someone asks if dissolvable stitches used in Asian eyelid surgery can be affected by warm compresses used during surgical recovery, and alter results eyelid surgery. This person says they noticed inner stitches become more raised and prominent on the eyelid crease line when the warm compresses were used. They are very concerned the warm compresses may cause permanent damage to the eyelids and change their shape after so much was done to them with surgery.
    New York Oculofacial plastic surgeon Amiya Prasad, MD reviews these concerns in this video, explaining why warm compresses are used in the healing process, and the process of how dissolvable stitches are absorbed by the body:
    1:31 - Dr. Prasad’s background and training, with samples of his expertise in Asian double eyelid surgery
    2:00 - How the goal of Asian eyelid surgery, regardless of technique, is to connect the eyelid skin to the levator muscle to create a crease
    2:18 - How after surgery there is swelling in the first 24-48 as a response to the trauma of surgery, so cold compresses are used
    2:44 - After 48 hours, cold compresses impede fluid, so circulation needs to be increased in the eyelids for fluid to clear, which can be done through movement or through warm compresses
    3:28 - How Dr. Prasad uses non-absorbable sutures in his Asian eyelid surgeries, and removes them in about a week
    3:57 - How absorbable sutures can be used to anchor the eyelid to the levator muscle, which break down with chemical and enzyme processes of the body, so warm compresses are unlikely to break down the sutures
    4:25 - How the doctor likely prescribed warm compresses to facilitate the next stage of surgical healing of swelling, not because of the sutures

    I had my surgery upper and lower 7 days ago. Is it OK to leave the stitches in until Friday which would be the ninth day?

      Hi Jeannie Jones Spagirl,
      While this should not be an issue, it's something you should be asking your operating surgeon as they know details about your surgery, and I have no knowledge about how your surgery was done. I hope this helps you.

    Can I take bath after 2 weeks of eyelid surgery

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 лет назад

      Hi BKB entertainment world,
      Yes, you can bathe after eyelid surgery, but do not immerse your eyelids in bath water, and try to avoid water falling into the incisions when showering, especially soon after sutures are removed. You can follow your doctor's advice about showering and bathing after they have performed your eyelid surgery. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    I got my eyelids done two weeks as of today. I was healing up pretty quickly. Swollen went down a lot and stitch lines went down. All of the sudden it gotten so itchy the last couple of days. Now the incision lines and the stitch lines are swollen up again, red and raises up almost like rashes. Itchy Rashes spreads to other parts of eyelids. I had to use hot towels to sooth the itchiness. Then I use the cold pads to see if I can get rid of the redness and swelling blistering like down. Did my eyelids get infected? If so, how? I clean them twice a day and applied the neosporin day and night for two weeks straight. It saids to protect cuts for 24hrs from bacteria.
    Another question is my lids are not folding. The incision lines and the stitch lines toughen up causing the crease line to not fold. Asked my doctor and they told me it’s too early and that I need to wait u til my eyelids healed. I’m so scared that once they healed both creases won’t fold and it will be a nightmare to have lids that do not fold but scars are visible.
    Another concern is, the creases are too low. When my doctor measure it before the surgery it wasn’t that small but after the aurgery, I can see the incision lines, I know the lids are very low. I want a higher profile crease line so I can have room to show off the makeups. Is it possible to revise it to get a higher crease? If so, will it show my first scar?

      Hi Precious Faith,
      The swelling is likely caused by your overuse of antibiotic ointment, which should only be used for the first few days after surgery. Use of antibiotic ointment after that can cause an allergic reaction/ contact dermatitis, which can be the swelling and itchiness you are reporting. You can watch this video about it - ruclips.net/video/4c1ZMhxXfYQ/видео.html
      It's too early in your healing stage to determine that your crease is too high, and far too early to revise as your eyelids are still swollen. You will need to wait until swelling goes down to determine your crease position, as well as the possibility of revision surgery. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hlo sir can I give hot compression on eye after twenty days... becz of swelling...

      Hi BKB entertainment world,
      You don't need hot compresses that long after eyelid surgery. You will need to be patient for swelling to resolve on its own, as 20 days, or even a month after surgery are still very early in the healing process. You can refer to these videos about healing after Asian eyelid surgery:

    hi Dr. i have done eyelid surgery 15 days complete today but my stitch mark don't go away what should i do?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Kavita Moirangthem,
      15 days after eyelid surgery is far too early in the healing process to worry about incision lines. I suggest you do not put any scar treatment yourself, especially with your fingers, as it can make things worse due to infection. Be patient, and keep in contact with your operating surgeon about management of your healing process. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hello sir is there the risk to lost Eye? in Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  7 лет назад

      Hi cia global,
      Losing an eye during blepharoplasty is extremely unlikely as doctors who perform eyelid surgery well are highly precise and trained to avoid such a complication. While the risk remains slight with any plastic or cosmetic surgeon, the risk is made minute if you have it done by an eyelid specialist. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      If you are worried about it, you can seek a surgeon outside your country.

    Hi Doctor, will the thread drop of or lose after years?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  7 лет назад

      Hi Xiao Tian,
      It shouldn't when it is done properly, but there is always a possibility because of the many factors involved. Normal aging does continue after eyelid surgery, so there are opportunities over the years to check how it's holding up. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi Doctor, I had asian eyelid surgery to fix ptosis 4 weeks ago but it has not fold by the cut line. My doctor office told me to blink a lot. I have been looking at people pictures and I dont see any cases that the skin doesnt fold. I am worried. Is there anything I can do to help skin heal better and soften up by the cut line. It feels stiff right now. Thank you

      Hi Emily Lee,
      You're still quite early in the healing process. You should have been off antibiotic ointment over 3 weeks ago as it can cause contact dermatitis if used too long, increase swelling, and prolong the healing process. You can refer to these videos to help guide you on where you are at with the crease lowering, and swelling dissipating:

    Hi doctor my mother just had upper and lower blepharoplasty. She has now had the surgery for 2 and 1/2 months and she has had chemosis significantly in her left eye. Her chemosis has improved but it's still there. Her surgeon has suggested for her to do closed eye squinting s method of healing her, while her opthamologist has given her steroid drops for the past month. Her opthamologist has also suggested for her to do cold compresses. She also appears to have her lower eyelids droopy especially her left eye. What do the massages look like and should she continue to use cold compresses after 2.5 months? Should she be experiencing pain in the lids?

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  6 лет назад

      Hi Ariana Montes,
      Sorry to hear about your mother's problems. You should ask your surgeon if skin was removed from the lower eyelids, as this is the most common cause of lower eyelids drooping. I almost never remove skin from the lower eyelids to prevent complications, and treat under eye wrinkles non-surgically by improving the skin quality.
      It is impossible for me to say how to massage the eyelids as I haven't seen her situation. I would follow your doctors' advice on this since they were able to examine her. I normally prescribe cold compresses during the first few days after eyelid surgery, but this is when no complications are involved. I hope this helps you.

    Hola Doctor, thank you for all your videos! I wanted to ask you if a non incisional Asian eyelid surgery is reversible? Thanks in advance

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  6 лет назад

      Hi Dayana Rodriguez,
      It is possible to release the sutures, but being fully reversible is dependent on the anatomy, so it's not guaranteed to be fully reversible. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi! I had the non-invasive eyelid surgery 14 days ago and my right eye is still more swollen and bruised than the left. I wonder how long it will take for both my eyes to look more even? I have had a lot of anxiety about my eyes since the day I did the surgery..

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  6 лет назад

      Hi Linn Tran,
      It is still very early after your eyelid surgery, and swelling and bruising are completely normal at this stage, even if there are different degrees of swelling on both your eyes. You can refer to this video about healing after double eyelid surgery:

    how warm should the compress be and how long should u be do these compresses day wise?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 года назад

      Hi Asia :p,
      Warm compresses are used by the third day after eyelid surgery to help clear fluid to reduce swelling, for 20 minutes on, and 20 minutes off during waking hours. Your surgeon should be guiding you with this. I hope this helps you.
