    The thing that makes Walter White's character developement so amazing is that, despite the memes, there is no *single moment* that turns him into Heisenberg
    Walter's fall is slow and incremental, like tectonic plates moving little by little. Only realising how much things have shifted once you look back to how it began
    In terms of D&D morality, he's definetly a chaotic neutral by the end if the series. Walter is willing to do anything, good or evil, so long as it aligns with his goals.
    But the fact that those goals can range from supporting his family, wanting to keep his friendship with Jesse or just his insatiable pride really makes it a lot more complicated

    • @bropitz3514
      @bropitz3514 Год назад +2

      I don’t think he ever truly wanted to support his family or help Jesse. He wanted to be adored by his family, and he liked Jesse because their dynamic gave him power. He had Gale fired simply because they were equals and he couldn’t belittle Gale or play him the same way he could with Jesse.
      In my opinion, Walt didn’t become a worse person over the course of the show. By the time the show starts, all the things that turn him evil already happened-he loses out on a billion dollar company started by his closest old friends, he’s passed up by all his colleagues, and he’s stuck in a dreadfully monotonous, unfulfilling life where his potential is wasted.
      Walt is filled with the repressed anger and ego that fuels his villainy from the beginning. Becoming heisenberg doesn’t make him a worse person at heart, it just motivates him to act on the evil already inside him.

      @@TheLoadingCrew ill point out, i agree with chaotic neutral at the very end of the series, like season 5 very end. but he should be HARD bridging evil, he creates crystals that kill people, he poisoned children, gaslighted his friends, refused to take treatments so he could continue doing his own, selfish, unhelpful goals that HURT his family more than helped them. hes BY FAR chaotic evil by the end of season 4, regardless if he killed an evil meth lord. he did it to BECOME an evil meth lord.
      hell, you literally said in the rick and morty video that taking drugs isnt evil, but dealing them is. and yet we pretty much forgot every time he did that for some reason? usually i agree with your points, but this ones really easy to find problems with.

    Great video!
    One small respectful dissagreement. "I am the one who knocks" should've been CE.
    Walt's words are extremely hollow, as he his VERY MUCH still in danger and does not have the power to 'be the one who knocks'. He is just trying to reaffirm his fragile masculinity and is blatantly intimidating his wife in the process and I'd argue, is getting a not insignificant amount of enjoyment out of making Skylar afraid.
    He wasn't trying to reassure her.
    I'd say intentionally intimidating your spouse qualifies as Chaotic Evil.
    Edit:
    On your take on toxic masculinity. I'd say you're half right. Yeah, it's not his ONLY flaw, but I'd also argue that what you say is his biggest flaw, his pride, and toxic masculinity, are really two sides of the same coin when it comes to Walt.
    Effectively, it boils down to the same thing thing though, so this is less of an argument and more of a philosophical "ummm... actually"
    Again, great video.

    Lawful Evil. Walter White lives his life by strict rules, and expects others to abide by them. The penalty for crossing him is death. He isn't mentally erratic, nor is he a free spirit. His sidekick, Jesse Pinkman, is chaotic neutral.

If Walter had verbally reprimanded the person and then it had turned violent that would be different. But also I feel like you're wilfully misinterpreting Walters motivation. Walter views his son and family asan extension of himself, he literally named his kid Walter jr. When that man was making fun of his kid for being disabled, Walter took that as a personal attack on his own pride and ego. I think something people often forget when it comes to interpretations of anything is that there is no right one, and all interpretations can mutually exist since by their very nature they're dependent upon the lens you choose to look through.
    For example, while for sure its not intended, one could also look at breaking bad as a commentary on how white privilege and patriarchy allows white men to dominate all walks of life, including crime by focusing on viewing the show through a racial and feministic lens. From small shit like Walter White's and Jesse Pinkman's very names being symbolmatic of their very whiteness, the fact that Walter, a white man, manages to outdo and take out mostly minority led criminal gangs, and ultimately it is at his own hand he dies begetting that the only thing which truly dominates over white patriarchs is themselves. That's just some surface level shit that you might think absolutely ludicrous, but someone else could see and think "Wow, that is a lense you can look at it under."
    All of this is really to say, I don't think its fair of you to try and undermine and dismiss how others view the show because of your own viewpoint on it.
    I feel like you doing alignment videos should know that best, all of this is very much subjective.

Nope, he's handed several hax skills just for dying and being reincarnated. Yes, that's a staple of the series, I just feel really let down that the author felt that he needed to resort to this to have an interesting character.

    My only question is the neutrality of making something like meth with intent to distribute. I’m not immediately claiming evil in this context, as I know this is by D&D alignment context, but I am saying I don’t understand how that’s neutral given the intent, and how harmful the drug is.

    • @mikeledrew5830
      @mikeledrew5830 Год назад

      I would argue that it's neutral, yes he knows that meth is harmful but he is not intending it to be sold to kids, if adults make the terrible decision to mess with things like meth that's their decision, no matter how wrong that choice is. Walt is merely supplying a demand that is already there, if he hadn't started cooking there would still have been tons of methheads around and they would have just bought from someone else. If he were out on the streets pushing it on people and in particular preying on minors then it would be evil, but the act of supplying a harmful product is not inherently evil (if it was then every alcohol producer and bartender would be evil too since alcohol addiction can and does ruin many people's lives and they knowingly supply this to their community)

    • @danshive4017
      @danshive4017 Год назад +1

      @@mikeledrew5830 I dunno… Drinking can be a serious problem, but the argument of neutrality with it seems more fair given the perception of alcohol, and the fact that most can drink it in moderation. Walter’s an informed chemist making meth, and, well…
      That “I dunno” was sincere, because I really don’t know how bad it is comparatively. The impression I get, though, is it’s significantly worse. Either way, Walter’s going into it knowing he’ll have to do criminal acts to distribute it.
      Like, is crafting a sword with a terrible curse not evil in D&D until you’ve followed through on what you crafted it for?

      for example, when Gus enacts his revenge, he wants to make sure his target suffers as much as possible. this is evil and he's not avenging someone, he's torturing them, he also has no interest in making anyone else's lives easier, that just happened to work out since he's killing other bad guys

    6:20 So explain to me how cooking meth for the first time is Neutral?? It is being cooked for the expressed intent of selling, and idk if you are just clueless about the horrifying nature of meth but it makes its users violent, delusional, erratic, paranoid, and deeply addicted, all while withering away their bodies slowly and usually eventually killing anyone who can't muster the willpower to quit, while causing significant, lasting damage to their minds. I am a former addict, 3 years clean and sober now....I have seen Meth waste away peoples bodies and minds. I have seen people so driven by the violent overpowering need for it that they would literally sell their children to human traffickers for enough meth for one good session. I have seen it kill. I knew a fellow addict who a few years after I moved away was on the news for having a psychotic break under the influence of Meth and beating her 6 month old to death. These are not rare, or even uncommon stories. Anyone who knows anything about Meth addiction has a dozen stories like these. I have seen it destroy lives, and even leave those who do manage to quit scared and damaged, both mentally and physically. This is not equitable to some farmer growing weed. This is not some shit you can justify as harmless for casual recreational use. This is not "oh its not as bad as drinking or smoking" shit. This. IS. METH. Cooking Meth (outside of the possible exception of laboratory environs for scientific purposes) is and will always be EVIL. Period.
