    Hybrids interest the hell out of me. I have both AST and CST and they are so different that im fascinated to see what traits a hybrid picks up from each.

    Do you add any calcium to the snapping turtle's food or do they get enough from the natural foods you feed them?

    Would a common snapper get all the nutrients it needs from eating only a good dry dog food?

    I have a common snapping turtle and hes around a year old, I usually feed him pellets and mealworms, and I recently started feeding him vegetables, is there any important things I’m missing?

    What's some good cold tolerant turtles? Preferably semi aquatic. Am from the UK and love keeping my animals outdoors!

    • @GregsTurtleHaven
      @GregsTurtleHaven  4 года назад

      Depending on whats available to you in the UK, i would recommend spotted turtles, European pond turtles, sliders, painted turtles and common musk turtles.

    I was wondering about predators like raccoons etc coming in your yard and getting your turtles? I notice most people that have outdoor ponds put chicken wire over it to protect the turtles from predators.

    • @GregsTurtleHaven
      @GregsTurtleHaven  5 лет назад +1

      I don’t like to use chicken wire or netting over ponds because if a branch or debris falls on it, it can become a ladder out of the enclosure, or worse yet turtles (and fish) can get caught in it and drown. Using chicken wire or netting is more of a band aid than solving or preventing the problem of predators. All my turtles instinctually sleep away from from shallow edges, have underwater caves and overhangs, I have some electric fence run, and my pit bull avidly patrols the property.

    Makes sense about rodents and chicken they don’t eat in wild I agree

    • @GregsTurtleHaven
      @GregsTurtleHaven  4 года назад

      Yea, it’s just a diet their digestive system isn’t well suited for, not like a common snapper. It causes improper growth and excessive fat around the head and limbs
