All turtles are like that. Parents don't protect their babies after they hatch. I do disagree with some people though on some of them not bonding with one another but the bond is not very strong either from what I seen and only with some.
@@supportyourtroopsathletes6460 Yeah I totally understand their parents are not there to raise them or protect them, but it is still mind blowing that such a small creature is so adaptable with all its surrounding predators. It shouldn't be a surprise that they lay sooo many eggs because some will not hatch while some won't make it past 1 year.
@@supportyourtroopsathletes6460 Yes indeed. Turtles are my favorite creature. They always have that "curious" look on their face and how they walk. Love seeing some turtles playing with their ball and bopping it with their head. Pretty funny.
dnico 👍 Yes, absolutely amazing! Looked for this video after watching the 2019 Herping Highlights Night Missions video. I keep watching the hatchlings over and over.
This was great. Reminds me of night exploring in the. NJ pine barrens. My favorite parts are when there is no music & all you here are the bugs. Brings back memories. Rhank you.
You guys did a great job helping them baby alligator Snapper's man fire 🐜 are relentless on turtle baby's or anything for that matter I watched this video like ten times 😂 man awesome you don't have to reply this is definitely one of my favorites.
You had an unreal experience just like those other guys, two finds of nests in the same year. I must say, that's something I have yet to see. My mentor Greg George found one off the pearl in the 1980s, but he hatched them. I've found hatchlings and small turtles in the water but never a nest ! Congratulations.
Fun to see those hatchlings and think about that there was once a report of a 419 pound adult. Even if it's just legend, there were once countless giants and very old turtles killed by humans in the early 1900s. Maybe one of these babies will be a giant.
Hopefully they make it to adulthood, it’s a long long road. In this part of their range most big males don’t top 100lbs, but further south they can be quite large
Chris Rockwell haha, well here that would be super illegal, but it was really cool to see and I really enjoy seeing them go into the creek. With time I’ll likely see those same turtles again and again over the years.
I seen the hybrid Alligator snapper x common snappers before which obviously could naturally occur in the wild so I am not really against it and if I do get into breeding them, I would be interested in breeding a albino common into a Alligator snapper if I do get back into snapping turtles. With the prices dropping a bit on albinos I would consider doing that. What is your views about it? I know the recessive genes however and it would be a very long project. and my thoughts would be to hold back het babies who show more of the alligator snappers beak and such to show more of their traits so the albino linage can come out with them.
That cooter looks different than my Santa fe suwannee cooters (my ones on the river I always would see as I never kept pseudemys) might it be like a peninsular cooter or something? The other two smaller ones however were classic suwannee cooters.
Hung Lam - Hi! Greg just posted an another awesome video today, New Years Day 2020, titled How to tell Common from Alligator Snapping Turtles, and he talks about Florida snapping turtles!
Yalll.... yall. Timeout.... idk if yall know but Alligator babies stay with mama for a while. Any gator under like 2 feet.... expect mama to be somewhere. The younger the closer she is
um, im pretty sure turtles dont go into the water right when they hatch, they have a egg sac thing on their stomach which they get their nutrients from for days even week. so they were just chilling in the sand. what if they are weak and cant swim properly and get jumped by a frog. i dont think u helped the turtles. i think u killed some by doing that. they dont need to go into the water and u forcefully put them there. yikes dude
Spreedom while I definitely appreciate your knowledge and concern, as mentioned in the video, Noah spotted the nest and the tracks of the hatchlings that already bolted for the water. Also mentioned in the video, fire ants were already trailing into the nest when we found it, and it was elected to move the turtles out of the nest. Alligator snapping turtle hatchlings are known for pretty much exploding out of the nest as soon as they are out of the egg, yolk sack and all. I also spared in editing the extra 60 minutes we spent watching over the young snappers as they buried into sand, climbed into roof masses, and went under the banks. I’ve been around and working with these turtles over 30 years, I can assure you I wouldn’t put them in any unnatural danger. Appreciate the concern and good lookin out 👍🏼👊🏼
@@GregsTurtleHaven ah ok thanks for the info. Newborns ive seen just chill and wait to get stronger/bigger. But ive only seen normal slider turtles. Not snappers. Didnt know they were darting to water. My bad
Spreedom No problem, thanks for watching the video and being concerned. Not all turtle species remain in the nest until the sack is absorbed, it can vary from species, location and time of year. As well as vary individually in a clutch; most of these ast babies already absorbed most of the yolk sack, some less so.
Crazy to think once they hatch, they are on their own.
Survivors from day one.

Mark Joseph Escamillas there’s nothing quite as relaxing as the natural world. Hope you have a great weekend!

You guys found a natural turtle sanctuary lol.
It’s an amazing place
🤔How soft were their shells upon hatching ?
What part in the south of GA did you find them baby snapping turtles
How great to help the new hatchlings have a little better chance of longer life.

That young Cottonmouth is adorable
What is the difference between red bellied turltes and cooters? Is it habitat differences ?
Red bellies are cooters, part of the Pseudemys genus

What part of Georgia you in my fam got land in dawsonville and Monticello which is north and south parts and there all over
Amazing that is all I have to say

the first large cooter is Ga range Suwannee, theres also a Florida cooter clip with an alligator in the same shot
If you ever have any of the tiny painted turtles to sell I would like one or two
You all should of put dots on them with a permanent maker to keep track on them if you ever go back there
So many creatures around, how did u guys find such a spot??
I have known about it for years
Simply takes your breath away.
Any advice on baby snaps
Filtration, natural foods, plants, driftwood and space 👍🏼
Soooooo cute
What’s crazy is that some of these Turtles if they live long enough will outlive us 😂😅😳
If things continue the way they are, one or more of these could outlive the human race.
Ofinfinitejest Right wish I could be turtle in chill in water all the time 😂
Alligator snapping turltes are my favorite species...... Florida soft shell turtles 2nd
But nice vid
Can you made video about florida snapping
I have a video making a tub for Florida snapping turtles, but I will make a winter update and pull out my adults
Hung Lam - Hi! Greg just posted an another awesome video today, New Years Day 2020, titled How to tell Common from Alligator Snapping Turtles, and he talks about Florida snapping turtles!
I want an aligator snapper so bad but my state doesn't allow it without a permit.
Hey Greg do you have a Facebook
Strut South TV I don’t have a Facebook, but I do have an Instagram: Greg’s Turtle Haven
My favorite turtle! (I hate slider turtles)
Typical Cash I assume you have never gone fishing in a turtle infested lake

These gators are between 3 and 5 feet, and are on their own. They mind their own business and we do our best to give them safe distance 👍🏼
real life pokemon

Good dialog, valid concern with excellent rebuttal. The best of you tube communication, way to go, both you all.
Excellent thread! I appreciate your humility, Greg. And your compassion for both 4-legged and 2-legged creatures. 😉
I ordered two alligator snapping turtles and I'm pretty sure they are not.
