I wrote an instrumental and 2 people said : That's a Bruce Cockburn song. He never has much to say live so this video is great. Also the CBC Q radio session with Tom Power shows him talking like crazy. My favourite albums: Humans, The Trouble with Normal, Breakfast in New Orleans, Night Vision. Love this so much! Bruce Cockburn is so real and gracious! After so many years listening to his music, I was very happy to finally meet him in 2019. His personality is as beautiful and filled with light like his musical expression. A brother for eternity! 🙌🤍
The magician reveals his secrets! It is fascinating to watch Bruce illustrate the evolution of his guitar style, from early influences like Mississippi John Hurt, to the complex arrangements that he uses in his own songwriting. A true master.

I've enjoyed Bruce's playing for a long time but really loved seeing him connect his many different styles to his blues influences, etc. What a great video. Thanks.
This is a fantastic lesson on Bruce's style. I've loved his music from the early days and always been awed by his unique guitar talent and his songwriting. This lesson exposes a modest super talented songwriter, guitarist and performer full of humanity and devoid of the ego most stars have. Oh of course, he's Canadian too.
I like it when he says “the thumb is doing that and the fingers do what they do”. I will never learn to play the guitar with anywhere near his skill. What a great musician!

I once wrote a letter of appreciation to Bruce and sent it to him in the mail because of his profound influence on my life and my music. I forgot about it and about a year later I received a post card from him thanking me and telling me he was glad his music meant a lot to me. I cherished the postcard and read it often but lost it when our house was burned down in the 2020 N. Ca. wildfires. Thanks for all the years of wonderful music Bruce!
I actually saw Bruce Cockburn in a golf store in London Ontario a few years ago. I recognized him and knew who he was but I only vaguely knew his music, so I kept my distance and didn't disturb him. In the years since I've really discovered his music and he's not only become one of my favourite musicians but probably my biggest inspiration in my own song writing and guitar playing. If I ever run into him again, I'll definitely thank him for what he has done, discretely of course.
if i had a rL is one of the most meaningful songs of all time and it applies and implies more today than when bruce first wrote it. its fkn amazing. ty bruce. i’ll never forget when this hit the radio. and the video of course
Wow! I heard a lot of his stuff in my earlier years, but forgot about this style. So good to hear it again! It’s amazing that he retains so much - skill not diminished after so many years. The right hand seems to dance and bounce to the rhythm. What a cool guy!

This makes me so very happy. Such smooth playing. Been in love with Bruce Cockburn music since I first heard it decades ago. Been going to bed to a shuffle of Speechless lately, but In the Falling Dark is probably my favorite album.
Watched a clip on TV, saw a kid (Bruce) playing Musical Friends. His music was joyous. Saw early concerts in coffee shops. He's always delivered thoughtful and skillful albums. Hoping he can help resuscitate our Vancouver Folk Festival 🇨🇦
Bruce, thanks for everything, especially for being such an amazing human being. I simply cannot hold back weeping, just trying to sing along with your lyrics here. Oh yes, the guitar lesson is priceless too, quite exciting to finally sound more like you. Have you ever thought of taking up another career as online teacher?
I saw you at the ottawa folk fest in the 90's. Was blown away how you were able to blow the whole audience away single-handedly - me included, of course. You still blown 'em away Bruce! Love your style - definitely one of a kind.
So much to unpack, so happy to have this to study, how crazy is rocket launcher when you see it solo?! Really toys with different rhythms so frequently, he could have been a drummer. Fkn hell…..
Bruce was certainly an early influence for me. I remember ordering my first hand made guitar by local Toronto guitar builder extraordinaire David Wren. That was 1979 and he had just finished a guitar for Bruce and my guitar was next. It was an exciting time trying to learn all those exotic open tunings and fingerstyle techniques. Thanks Bruce for blazing that trail for all of us.
I noticed a calm and peace here with him that I hadn't seen before. I googled a few things and saw how his life changed about four years ago. It's worth looking up.
Thanks so much for this! Bruce is a Canadian treasure, and his guitar playing was a huge influence on me. Oddly there are much more complex Bruce songs then these, but i suppose they might have been too much for the scope of this introduction to his style; see; Water Into Wine, Foxglove and many, many others.
have been listening to bruce for nearly 50 years, and can play some of his priceless music; saw him live, love him. Thanks Bruce!

Saw him in North Bay very recently, amazing show.
We love you so much Bruce. ✌️❤️🎸
Thank you Bruce. Just beautiful as usual. Thanks for many years of great music.
Thanks for your honest and sincere love towards my work,we have you to be most thankful for . 💓
Going to see him in May. Can't wait.
Wow! I heard a lot of his stuff in my earlier years, but forgot about this style. So good to hear it again! It’s amazing that he retains so much - skill not diminished after so many years. The right hand seems to dance and bounce to the rhythm. What a cool guy!
One of, if not the biggest of my musical influences, going on 40+ years now. He always brings me home.

This makes me so very happy. Such smooth playing. Been in love with Bruce Cockburn music since I first heard it decades ago. Been going to bed to a shuffle of Speechless lately, but In the Falling Dark is probably my favorite album.
I love you Bruce. Your music is inspiring and uniquely you❤
Saw Bruce live about 20 years ago in Montréal, solo on stage, a true guitar monster.
One of my fav guitarists and composers, so glad he is still doing it!!
Thanks for your honest and sincere love towards my work,we have you to be most thankful for . 💓🌹
I’ve seen him six times from seventies, to 2017. Incredible guitarist, performed with expertise
Pacing the cage - beautiful song
Watched a clip on TV, saw a kid (Bruce) playing Musical Friends.
His music was joyous. Saw early concerts in coffee shops. He's always delivered thoughtful and skillful albums. Hoping he can help resuscitate our Vancouver Folk Festival 🇨🇦
SUCH an amazing player, and best songwriter I've ever known of.
I had the chance to see you on stage in the 70's in Quebec city, what a performer, still an incredible songwriter and guitarist. Thanks for this video
What a brilliant guitarist and singer/songwriter. Thank you
Legend.
Fkn hell…..
Thank you young man for so many great songs that hold so much truth.
I have changed my mind quite thoroughly. I believe in guarded borders.
This is the greatest thing ever. I love you Bruce and this page for bringing this joy to me
Wow! Thanks Bruce!
really beautiful guitar playing and songwriting
I noticed a calm and peace here with him that I hadn't seen before. I googled a few things and saw how his life changed about four years ago. It's worth looking up.
This is wonderful. Thanks AG for this.
Thankful to have been able to meet this man. Second in line at the egg in Albany.
Wow! Simply fantastic! Thank you for providing this. Food for (musical) thought for next time my six string is in hand, for sure!
Wonderful lesson from the Master
Go Bruce! And thank you for the lesson(s)...
