Thank you all so much for your support! - Хобби
It has been a bit since my last video. I've been working on finishing up Endhall (it is in beta now so I'm polishing it and getting ready for a steam release) and planning how to do this Godot roguelike. I think I have an idea of how to do it. It will be a simple roguelike but I think that is the best place to start. The plan is to start recording/uploading videos for it next week. I'll see you all then. Have a great weekend.
yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
This is great news! Thanks for all your hard work.
its not even ur channel!
Hehe... It's been a ’BIT’.
Hi Benjamin! This dungeon design is very beautiful to my eye. Could it be used in a non-profit, non-advertized, relatively small audience project where the idea is to demonstrate that a fully functional rpg can be built even with a software not in any way meant for game making?
For advanced tiling in aseprite. Select a tile (with selection tool). Press Ctrl+B , (that will create a brush from the tile you just selected). And in the top bar (where the "Opacity/PixelPerfect" options are), you can select the beahavior of the new brush [PAttern aligned to source/Pattern aligned to destination/PaintBrush]. This will save you a lot of copy pastes :)
This is by far the most useful comment I've read in my 12 years of being on yt
I love you, seriously
Yay, another Let's Pixel! Thank you for putting these out, man, I learn a ton from you every time.
I know some of your viewers subbed for GM but I just wanted to say that there also people like me who are reeeeeeally excited to see you make more pixel art and godot content! Anyway just follow your heart and do what you love
This looks cool :) i was working on a similar tile set recently, it's crazy how much time i could spend on a 16x16 pixels tile. Keep it up!
If anyone is having a problem with changing the indexed colors hue on the fly like HeartBeast is at 23:28 make sure the "lock icon" directly above your pallet is "unlocked". If it is locked you cannot change colors dynamically even while on indexed mode.
This was driving me crazy but I ended up figuring it out through another youtube video.
Thanks for the tip.
Thank you youtube comments!
You're a life saver
THANKS A LOT !!!
fuck you just saved me a week of googling
Super happy to see more lets pixel videos! You're my go to for learning this stuff so far.
Hi HeartBeast!
So I've had 3 programming classes that were heavily c++ procedural based, almost no object oriented focus. I can't thank you enough for your videos. It helps take what I already know about programming and makes game development a more accessible side project outside of my regular job.
I'm gonna start with small achievable games to understand my development engines, and maybe one day create a full project.
Thank you so much for everything you do!
I have never seen any of your vids and I'm already in love. Amazing work man.
As for color palettes, I prefer the RYB color wheel(pretty good for shading). You can choose it from the 4th button(named 'Options') above the palette tab
THANK YOU!!!!!! IT HAS TAKEN ME ABOUT AN HOUR TO FIND A VIDEO WHERE SOMEONE MAKES PIXEL ART STARTING FROM SCRATCH INSTEAD OF TALKING ABOUT HOW TO MAKE IT THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUU
i like your work, its relaxing to watch your video!
Just so you know if you double click with the selection tool in aseprite it will select the entire tile, makes it so you don't have to manually select it each time. also the alpha value of the grid is under Edit, Preferences.
and Shift + double-click will add to selected tiles, for anyone reading.
I recently purchased Aseprite and I plan to get Gamemaker as well when I get the extra money. This tutorial was very cool and I actually watched it all lol. Very interesting that even the smallest color changes can make it really stand out and look detailed. Can't wait to jump into it for real combining Gamemaker and actually making something. I made a simple little dog and animated it, learned about tagging and switching different animation loops. Aseprite was definitely the best purchase I made.
Hi Corey, how much does GM cost and where can I get it?
Just what I needed - great work!
thanks for your awesome tutorials you are great content creator
Thanks for making this video I was wondering how to make my own pixel arts for godot and then this show up such blessing... ❤
really appreciate videos like this! gj
not sure if anyone else said it, but you can hold Control and click on a tile to move a copy of it without the need to copy and paste every time.
Omg, after so many years I seen your name pop up again. Makes me miss the og gm days!
very useful, I'm trying to learn atm, and I'm having a hard time understanding perspective and shading
yall never heard of cosmigo promotion it has good tiling tools where you edit a tile and it changes all instances you have in a mockup
With a bit of optimisation for space, pretty sure you can get the whole tile set down to 9 tiles. I see variations being added through rotation, mirroring and offsetting pixels within the tile to wrap around themselves. So you'd have: 3 floor tiles, 3 wall tiles, 1 vertical wall top, 1 horizontal wall top and then 1 corner wall top.
Actually if you wanted to change the art slightly and keep the same style you could produce micro tiles and get the floor tiles down from 3 squares to 1 and a half and the wall topper tiles down from 3 to 3 quarters of a tile, giving a total of 2 and a quarter tiles for the entire tile set! What a bargin.
Really nice pixel art.. wish you make a pixel art course for character :D
Thank you for your work ! :)
the top all the wall should match the lines of the bricks on the wall. they are after all bricks. so they need to be lined up
Beautiful!
Hey, Ben, I was wondering if you had any tips for exporting tiles from Aseprite. I spent a long while creating a layered, 8-frame animation that I wanted to export as individual .png tiles. If you have any tips for a workflow that you may have developed, or if you decided to use a different editor... anything info like that would be much appreciated!
Thanks for putting out these videos! They are extremely helpful.
This video helped a lot thanks
Godmorning to you too! Im in 2021 and its 5AM
"Small, simple" - famous words for all of us.
Missed you man
Amazing video thank you
A tutorial on a Roguelike made in Godot is a fantastic idea! I hope it's as in-depth as your action RPG for GameMaker was.
UPD: I am the 300th like on this video haha
When I try to do the index-color thing it just deselects my palet and dosen't change the color. Could someone please help?
hello, may I ask you at the end what will be the syze of each tile? 16*16
Yep 16 x 16
the colour mode thing doesn't seem to work in my copy of aseprite : /
Inspiring!
Awesome! Many thanks! :)
Hey Benjamin you're awesome
Is that possible to do it without Asesprite ? What's the Size of my "New page" should I put, for example with Photoshop ?
Super! Need more)
We needs a dungeon master!
Great video, but mildly frustrating that the bricks on top of the wall have different divisions between the top and side faces of the brick.
Yeah, it's been pointed out and I agree. I'll do better next time :) Thanks for the feedback.
"...small simple roguelike that I'm going to be making in Godot."
8D
And what? Godot games require even less memory than Love2D games.
Why do the bottom wall bricks look farther apart than the side walls
Basics to be used with Tiled Map Editor. Sprite sheet art.
This makes me want to make a 2d game. Love this style
here before this blows up
Where would you add the colliders
Can you do more tutorials on Godot engine? That would be the best thing ever and helpful a lot to me!
Ima benjamin too!!!! Hell yeah, Benjamin squad
I just realized someone used this pixel set on a gamejam
if you're using grid can't you just double click the tile you wanna move? at the moment my version works.
Oh bejamin< take this bagguete!
are you creating a new layer everytime you draw ? Since when you erase how are you able to keep whats below. Sorry im new
No, he does not erase he just draw over it with the color of thing below it x') its faster
What do you mean
He should be an artist for hire. I would definitely hire him.
Please do a similar one but for isometric!
To anyone interested that cannot afford aseprite or any other program, anything done in this tutorial can be made in GIMP as well. Yes, I know, simply opening Gimp for the first time can be overwhelming, but consider the fact that it is pretty much equal to Adobe Photoshop, and learning to use it can be a powerful asset in your arsenal. And for the weak hearted, if you want to create an indexed colormap in Gimp look for "Image > Mode > Indexed" and press "convert" and in order to locate your generated colormap press "Windows > Docable Dialogs > Colormap". GO GO Opensource !
I think the tops of the walls are weird, shouldn't the lines follow the upper layer of bricks? 🤷♂️ Also, it would be nice to have the front wall designed, so it gives it a bit more perspective, and just play with the opacity, once a character goes behind the wall. Otherwise, a very nice tutorial :)
just made that same comment a few seconds ago. they should line up
looking forword to it keep up the good work, more godot 3 tutorials please thank you
Any thoughts on the best engine to use to make a top-down pixel-art RPG game?
The final result is different from the thumb, you forgot to show how to create the shadows on the floor...
If im late on the fix, this whole video could of been way more friendly to you Ben if you used the preview window haha
I saw you had a struggle at first with making even size bricks, you could have just done 16/4 = 4 pixels (-1 pixel) for eaze
What is the tool you're planning on using to make the game? Not sure if I have the spelling but couldn't find anything like Giddo in a quick search
Hey! Godot Engine :)
I found the final version of this image you created in this tutorial on a free image site but now that I know who made it, I must ask double check what copyright it has. I have it set as the main backdrop for my Title screen and Character Selection in a game I'm currently developing.
[Subscribed] It seems I have a lot to learn from you.
*To myself:* First of all for a tileset pixel makeing use Aseprite not Windows Paint!!!
Can this be imported to game maker?
ProbablyAPug yes, just go to file and export like normal and import while your in gms.
Edit -> Preferences -> Grid
I bought a course on your old website heartbeast.co [which doesn't seem to exist], so I'm wondering how to access it if the old website is down and I didn't buy it on udemy
learn.heartbeast.co should get you there. Let me know of it works.
@@uheartbeast Oh yes it works c:!
How to undo things in asesprite?
Damn dude I just slept like 10 hours after a bender and this is making me want to sleep more.
omg thanks
Download link?
One day
How can I auto tile this in godot?
I love you
omg I've missed you :,)
Hey!
But how do I import that into something like Godot
Who is they? Are you one of them? I hope so because if not I want to watch their tutorial.
RIP Mouse:
2020 - 2020
Make one about... How to make rain animation
++ for Aseprite
the inconvenience of batteries outweigh the benefits of a wireless mouse to me. good art man.
Yeah, not sure if it is the batteries or just a crappy mouse haha.
@@uheartbeast G903
nah, just buy a wireless mouse with internal rechargeable battery. It costs more but is really convenient.
or just buy rechargeable batteries...
I honestly have used some wireless mice for years without having to change batteries. Was never really an inconvenience for me. Still don't use them anymore since I don't find them more convenient than wired mice and those are usually cheaper.
Hi ben! Long time no see. How you've been? :D
Good and busy! Thanks for asking :)
Find
your tilesets are only good as a mini map !
just kiding good work
2 years later and your website still not up lol
It's a new website ;)
Make a how to make a story based game like undertale
YoUr VoIcE LiKe DrEaM
Do you use any specific color palette for your tileset works?
You know there's a video?
Why don't you just watch it?
@@o.b.7217 I meant other than the default one
I shouting at the screen "Please align the groves on top of the bricks with the side of the bricks! Think in three dimensions! The bricks on the left and the right should be long, not short. Masons don't use cube shaped bricks. If you put yourself in the room and look around, you would expect to see the same pattern on all four walls". So frustrating to watch.
Haha sorry to cause you so much stress. XD Once pointed out you can never unsee it, though. I'll watch for this in future work.
으라챠챠챠는 살아있다
please edit the video
Anyone else get a google pixel ad
Dang dude I need views like this, I do pixel art tutorials too.
hey you already have thousands of views that's pretty good, just keep making more content
Dude your content is the best lol
are you going to make GM videos or just godot? im only subbed cause GM :\
Both, next little while will have a focus on Godot, though, because I just finished the 2D hack-n-slash series (33 videos in GM).
26:24 parei aq
so you are making a tileset for godot and instead of using a Node->CanvasItem->Node2D->TileMap to easily edit and preview your maps in godot while conserving space (because y'know tileset) you complain that copypasting things in aseprite is not as handy? the tool is right there in your engine, and you said you were making a tile set, not giant background image anyway :P
oh also just fyi aseprite is free if you know what a CMake is ;)
it's not really "pay to buy", more like "pay for convenience of having a ready made exe file".
Do you like me
