florence kills any role she is in! seeing it for her performance alone tbh
she seriously deserves every award possible imo
100% liked this more than I thought I would. My biggest issue is they didn’t go far enough. I would kill for more of a backstory to Olivia Wilde’s character.
I feel the same about Harry’s performance like Pugh acts circles around him and it’s very noticeable. But not a bad movie psychological horror really gets me.
Just left my screening of it… wow!! For as many times I’ve seen the trailer with every movie I’ve seen this year… I can’t believe I was still surprised as to what I watched! It had me at the edge of my seat at times!
I love Florence Pugh, I loved Booksmart, but I don't care about Styles, or the controversy surrounding the film... But glad to hear it's worth a watch . Thanx, Emma!
yeah you should find it average if not good. but the drama didnt dampen it which is good.
I'm glad to know it's not as terrible as critics are making it up to be! I think some people are just really eager to shit on Wilde, which sucks because that shouldn't affect the reviews. Anyways, will probably check it out next week at the cinema.
ahh im so glad to hear that it has more horror than i (and i think most people) was expecting! i was afraid it’d fall into that stepford wives, or even truman show-esque trap of “oh golly this perfect world isnt so perfect?? is this all fake!?!?” but this made me quite interested in watching it! plus i love a good score in a film 😮💨 (also, bless anyone who has to act next to florence. she’s truly just unmatched.)
Yeah I mean with the trailer and the set up there isnt much places it can go.. but it still has some surprises which was impressive.
It’s impossible for me to dislike a movie with Florence in it so, can’t wait to see
Same
love ur channel 💕
I will watch this for Miss Flo, and Miss Flo only. 😍
I loved it! I agree about Harry, he was just there. Interesting point though, when my husband and I went to see it, it was packed with an older crowd as in 60+ years old so I am not sure how they felt as I believe they were there for the nostaglia. I know this as the lady beside kept singing along to all the songs in the movie.
Excited to see Florence. Just saw Barbarian yesterday so I don’t think it can top that at all
Okay so glad this isn't terrible like so many have been saying! I've been keen for this for a while and hopefully I'll get to see it on the big screen 🙏🏻
I have a question... where does Dean go when you film your review in the car? Does he just go for a coffee and chill for a bit until you message him to say you're done? I need answers! 😂
You just said everything I told my friends about the movie when we left the cinema.
I’ve been looking forward to this movie for so long and I’m even more excited now! I don’t think the tiny theater in my town will have it which makes me sad, so I might have to wait until I can stream it somewhere and avoid spoilers until then!
ohh wow i thought it would ? its a huge film! sorry to hear that.
You must live in a really small town
@@spookyastronauts Yeah our theater only has three screens so we tend to only get the biggest movies that are out at the time! But it’s okay, I might be able to go out of town to see it! Based on your review I think it would be worth it!
@@sidmehere2964 I really do😂
@@spookyastronauts Okay I was actually wrong!! Our theater is getting it and my husband just got us tickets for opening night tonight!!
Spot on review - I enjoyed it as a cinematic experience and I don't think it deserves some of the shade it's receiving. Like you said, not the best but definitely not the worst and worth watching for sure.
I was really on the fence about this film. But, your review has brought my interest back up to where it was when I saw the initial teaser.
I still remember seeing the trailer for the first time and before they showed the title, I was like "ohh they are doing another Stepford Wives remake?"
Hi Emma!! I've been a viewer of yours for a very long time, but I've never commented before. I just wanted to say I adore you and your videos. Your tastes run very similar to mine, so I trust your reviews implicitly! When I have money to spare, I will definitely join your patreon!! I will be watching this film, simply because of Florence Pugh!! She is such an amazing actress! Love you, Emma!!
Thank you so much for your support
Seeing it this weekend! Huge Florence fan and I love Harry Styles too. I’m excited to see how he does.
I love Booksmart. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. Thank you for your review
Hope you like it, just know its not even the same style as booksmart feels like different directors, not in a bad way. I guess she just hasnt defined her style or genre yet
off topic but cannot wait for your pearl review !!!
honestly... I loved this film. Seen a lot in past two months but out of those movies this was my favorite. Totally up my ally on the creepy pshylogical part. I do think it shoould have been 20 min. shorter and yes Harry Styles still has to learn (altho next to the others in the cast he hold up pretty good in my opinion). But I do think people jumped on the 'hate' bandwagon to early. This movie def isn't for everyone and had flaws, but I had an amazing enjoyable time in the cinema and gosh they looked gorgeous in 50s style!
I feel like that middle part dragged bc H Styles.. like I feel like that was his moment to shine and carry us but it fell so FLAT!!!!!!
Also everyone is upset at Olivia putting herself in the movie.. like Ben affleck, Clint Eastwood.. etc don’t do that. Sometimes you have to write your own dream roles. I love that she did that.
I think everyone was amazing in the film except styles.. his character had so much damn potential. SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!! Chris pine and Flo were PERFECT SCENE PARTNERS
I love the intro to your channels sounds, that's Tweeky from Buck Rodgers in the 21st century. That before party seemed like fun.
This one is definitely on my list! Thanks, Emma!
I loved seeing how much seemed to be going on at this premiere before the movie started.
I really enjoyed your insight into this movie. I think I'll definitely put in on my watching. I'm glad to hear Florence was amazing as usual.
Thankfully, none of the actors mailed in their performances throughout the film. Storywise, it's nothing we haven't seen in one form or fashion, but there's clearly a bevvy of talent on both sides of the camera...
Thanks for the review love xoxo
Very intriguing review! I’m excited to revisit this after I see the movie. Love the female leads. Poor Harry.
In the meantime, that was an awesome surf rock lobby montage! Super 😎
I was not expecting that ending AT ALL
But I wanted more! Florence, Olivia, and Chris Pine, and Frank's wife were really good!
I honestly believe Shia would have acted in par with Florence
Thank you for your review. I am definitely going to check this one out.
I've managed to avoid the trailer so far, but couldn't help but watch your review!
I'm not surprise that the film has more 'horror elements in it, based on what I've seen in the trailers and the story. It's seem play on the 'this place can't been this good' trope, where everyone is happy but you know there is something really nefarious happening behind the scenes. I'll wait when this comes on streaming services to check it out.
We are really looking forward to seeing this. Trying to not have our hopes too high or low. Great review Emma!
its good not great! hope that helps! thanks for watching Blonde
We wanted to like it so much. We really didn’t like it 😫
great review 💛
I’ll be watching for Chris pine! 😌
I've seen some clips of Harry's acting in this, and just don't think I can get through this one lol But thank you for the review, good to know it has some redeeming qualities. Still can't figure out if his accent is supposed to be American or British or Australian though.
Looking forward to it more now than I was thanks to you/your review. Cheers ☺️
I am checking it out today, I love Florence. Thank you for your review!
I was going to skip this one but your review really made want to check it out, think it will be a vod for me but still, Thanks Emma!!
I'm keeping a 10ft pole from myself and this film. I can't support the manufactured drama surrounding it. There's better films out there to compete for my precious time. Thanks for the review, Emma!
Emma, I'm intrigued by this film, but nowadays, I've all but given up on modern movies, because as a straight white Christian man, the villain of all of these films always turns out to be ME. I work hard for my income, and I don't want to plunk down $10 only to be crapped on. I really do like Florence (like everybody else here), and I find the premise intriguing, but can you assure me that this is not another typical film that is out to indoctrinate with the usual tropes, and just seeks to entertain? I trust you and enjoy your reviews very much. Thank you.
got my tickets for tomorrow, can't wait
Great review 🙏
Cant wait to see on Friday in liverpool great video
I saw this at Venice I loved it
Happy Wednesday 💜💘❤️🎃🧡🖤🧡🖤🍭🍭🍭❤️🔥
Glad that this is not a total trainwreck!
Just don't go waste your time and money by seeing Jeepers Creepers Reborn... ugh...
It makes Sharknado look like Jaws!
Haven’t heard a thing about Jeepers Creepers Reborn. Didn’t realize it even existed. Lol
ohhh no jeepers for me haha
This movie looks really good Emma. I love your vids Emma so much. Have a great day.
Glad you enjoyed it but Florence is a great thriller /horror actress. I haven’t seen her too many drama but she’s clearly versatile in her roles.
thanks for focusing on movie only, not the gossip shitshow. Have my theories where the plot goes and happy to check if I am right in the cinema.
oooo i wonder if you are right! I picked one thing, but was still surprised.
Loved the aesthetics of this one all around, as well as the acting from Florence, Olivia and Chris (first name basis obvi). I did find it a bit goofy though (the dudes in red had me laughing), and struggled figuring out the tone of the film.
I´m so curious about this movie, still I have no idea what to expect. The trailer kind of made me think about Swallow from 2019, which I absolutely loved, but maybe I´m completely off. I wasn't planing on seeing this at the cinema because of some bad reviews, but now I think I´ll have to. 😄 And yes, I could spend a couple of hours just watching Florence Pugh. She's awesome!
Awe Grommet! I love your shirt Grommet!
I was gonna skip this but now I'm sold, watching it tonight. Thanks Emma.
Just watched. I liked it. Not perfect but at least I was never bored. Thanks again.
Wow! Guess I’ll be seeing this in the cinema now- thank you!
Let's go lol
I actually went to see it today after seeing this review, hadn't seen a review before, a trailer and paid no attention to it. Turns out it is in my top5 movies of the year. Would still only say very very fringe horror but a really well crafted psychological thriller that had me guessing for most of it's runtime. It's the underdog of the year. I'd say it's in the same row as movies as 'Last Night in Ohio' and 'Nightmare Alley' somehow as far as vibe goes. Not 'really' horror but thrilling, mysterious and disturbing / twisted enough to get sucked into. Definite Bluray buy. (which i hardly do - usually its dvd, and mostly thriftstore ones).
I want to watch this movie so damn much!!! Thank u for your video, darling lol
I think Florence overshadowing Harry makes sense for the movie.
Meanwhile I completely agree. The movie is pretty damn cool and effective, but I think it's a little bit too long.
Imo horror is an umbrella term and the only thing I feel is necessary to be called horror is there must be horrifying content in it. It doesn't have to be scary (although that's my preference) just horrific. Which of course can be subjective. Then again most things in cinema are.
It made me fall asleep TWICE! I haven't been able to finish it yet.
Comes out in. The USA tommorow im very excited
Olivia Wilde's best performance is from the movie Vigilante. Highly recommend!
I don't really get why so many like Booksmart. It was one of those rare movies where I had to turn it off it was too cringe to complete. One of my biggest worries going into this movie was knowing she did Booksmart, doubly so because no one gave her any pushback on the many negatives that film offered to a beginning filmmaker.
Keep doing reviews. I end up hearing about movies I didn't know were good.
I saw you review speak no evil and all I could say was wow what an amazing horror movie
I enjoyed it but I do agree with you on Harry’s performance. Florence Pugh is stunning as always. Pleasantly surprised with how this film turned out. 7/10 from me
Just watched it and I really enjoyed it. Florence Pew Pew Pew was absolutely stellar as always.
Great review! I’ve been looking forward to watching this film despite the negative attention & some poor critic scores it’s received.
In defense of Harry, he's not really an actor. Love you and what you do!!
I hadn't heard anything about the controversy (I'd never even hear of the movie!) but after looking it up... seems like some people involved in the film might not have gotten along, so bored Twitter people made a meal out of it. Kinda the reason I stay off Twitter in general.
Anyways, big fan of Pugh, and interested in Wilde as a director so will be checking it out. From what I've seen here, I like the aesthetic.
Curious to see this eventualy
I have a hard time not seeing Florence as Dani. But as horrible as this movie sounds, it also sounds a bit intriguing. May have to give it a chance.
As someone who likes a good interpretive film experience like a Lighthouse or a Midsommar, where to this day I can still discuss theories hidden meanings, where no one’s a 100% wrong or right. It makes me nervous that I’ve heard people say that the film is pretty surface level and spells it all out for the audience. Would you agree is this film not gonna challenge me or create that kind of discussion? Would you say it’s commentary is surface level?
Florence Pugh carries this film and makes it more enjoyable than it has any right to be. Whilst I am glad people are prepared to make films like this, I am amazed this wasn't a TV series as so much could have been explored in more detail and I feel like the reveal doesn't pay off by the time you get to it. Beautifully shot and very well made just a little hollow like the eggs.
Well, now I actually want to see it!
Loved Florence Pugh in Midsommar!
I loved it, I think it was very clever🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'd heard nothing about this movie till I watched your video, no news, no trailers, never heard of it. It sounds pretty awesome to me though
Harry Styles is a good actor. I want to see him in more movies. Chris Pine plays a good villain.
I've heard the name harry styles, but didn't know who he was - google tells me he's a pop musician or something? The one thing i'd heard (that wasn't inane drama bollocks) was that he couldn't act for shit, and this sounds like more confirmation of it lol. Strange decision to have him in it i guess, he must just have friends in the right places I guess. Sounds kinda interesting tho, I loved Wilde back in house, and Pugh has been consistently great recently - so i'll give this as punt sometime down the line, though not in any sort of hurry.
Thanks Emma am on board watching this movie hope it will not be disappointing as Jeepers creepers reborn (2022)
Based on your review I’m VERY excited to see it! And it also sounds like the original casting of Jack (Shia LaBeouf) would have made it much more well-received.
Love this review!
Chris Pine right?!
Just got back from the cinema. Also gave it 7/10. Wanted to give it 8, but I also felt that it dragged on a little and the story was not that original. The non existing chemistry between Styles and Florence also didn’t help.
I kept imagining Shia LaBeouf in that role and how much better the film would be with him.
Chris Pine stole the show! He’s great here.
Amazing movie truly
I’m in love with it. Even my bf said it was amazing and he’s not a movie person
I was on he fence about seeing it, starts in 3 hours, so you say "go see it"?
I'll get to this one eventually, like I don't even know why people hate Olivia Wilde so much lol
Emma I am going watch don't worry darling movie
I was looking to watching it and glad you made this!
But the controversy has made me not want to watch it. I'll be thinking about it the whole time and how Florence was treated unfairly during production. And hearing Olivia say Ms. Flo
I pretty much agree with you overall, but I thought Harry Styles was terrific. And did you notice he had Coleman's mustard on his table?
I totally saw this movie today. It was fantastic and Florence Pugh was amazing. Didn’t care for Harry Styles he was meh until the 3rd act. They should’ve casted Timothee Chalamet as Jack instead.
By both the trailer and the controversies, I figure this is either going to be a fabulous mess or a misunderstood gem. Will see it in cinemas, though. Too intriguing to pass.
I actually thought Harry did good for what he was given.
SPOILER
Ohh my gosh when Alice wrapped the plastic wrap around her head I was like ohh my gosh...
I'm not going to spoil it but that ending was unexpected and really really good, I just wish they're would of been bit more because the one lady said "It's my turn now" and I was like ohh shiz...
Spoiler:
And Olivia's character knowing about the truth the whole time and it was because of her kids!
I hope you do a review of the whale since is a psychological drama
I loved Florence Pugh. She held the film together. It wasn't great but she was.
Heeey Emma !! Did you watch Barbarian ? Eager to hear your thoughts on this ! 😃
She did a video about it already: ruclips.net/video/rUpczuZfDWU/видео.html
she already did a review❤
there is literally a review on her channel.
She did a review on it!
She already made a non spoiler video...
All the controversy did was put me off seeing this film. I’m not interested in Harry Styles, Olivia Wilde or Chris Pine. I do usually like Florence Pugh but not enough to bother with this one.
