  • UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA VS. SANTA FE COLLEGE | differences, SF to UF 60% transfer rate & my experience
    In this video, I share my experience at the University of Florida and Santa Fe College, the differences between university and community college, and my overall thoughts about both college institutions.
    Santa Fe College is a great pathway to the University of Florida. #SFtoUF So, if you are a student who may be in the following situations, this video is for you:
    - A high school student considering dual enrollment
    - A current UF student wanting to take classes as a transient student at UF
    - A high school graduate who is wanting to attend UF
    - Someone who is just wanting some general information about Santa Fe College
    I've also listed some more differences below NOT mentioned in this video:
    UF
    - Offers more bachelor and advanced degrees
    - More difficult to get accepted without college credit
    - Grading scale makes me cry, but it’s fine
    - Larger campus that is more pedestrian-friendly as in walking around.
    - Beautiful campus with historic buildings
    - Let you take some classes at community college and transfer them to UF as needed
    - Top-ranked school
    Santa Fe
    - Offers more AA degrees & AS degrees and fewer bachelors degrees, but still some great ones
    - Super affordable
    - Easy to get accepted, but still competitive
    - Locations all around
    - Top-ranked community college
    - You can take classes at any of the campuses
    - Beautiful campus
    - I don’t think you have to pay to park- at the satellite campus, there was plenty of parking...
    The Good
    - Santa Fe definitely prepares you for UF/ any other major universities in Florida
    - A lot of UF Professor is also teach at Santa Fe
    - Many students will take their gen Ed’s at Santa Fe before transferring to UF
    - The grading scale in Santa Fe is much easier but it does depend on the professor, too
    - Ex: ENC1102 - 92 was an A,
    - Santa Fe classes are cheaper
    - Both located in Gainesville
    - You can still be involved at UF if you attend Santa Fe (Greek life, etc)
    - The transfer is 60% or better
    The Bad
    - The textbooks still cost the same
    - Stigma about going to community college first but there’s honestly nothing wrong with that, especially if you do it through dual enrollment.
    - Santa Fe’s schedule starts at 8 a.m. in the morning at the satellite campuses
    - UF starts at 7:25 in the morning. I never had an 8 a.m. at Santa Fe
    The Ugly
    - The only ugly thing is that my GPA is ugly now. I never made a C at Santa Fe. Even my department chair noticed that when I transferred to the J-school. He said and I quote: “You don’t make many B’s do you?” Then, I proceeded to make a B every semester until I lived in a single dorm.
    - But, I did make an A in both of my Reporting classes: jou3101 & jou3346l
    - UF classes are notoriously harder.
    - My GPA at Santa Fe 3.95. My GPA at UF as an undergrad 3.78. All because of those pesky little A-‘s...

    Hi! I just applied to Santa Fe for nursing school and I wanted to know what my chances of getting accepted are? When I was on the phone all my requirements were being reviewed and they told me everything was excellent. What do you think?

    • @SarahLouisePickett
      @SarahLouisePickett  2 года назад +1

      I’d say pretty good. Santa Fe is relatively easy. Edited to add that: There are many factors to consider. And even though acceptance at Santa Fe is certainly easier than UF. It is dependent upon your application as a whole.

    • @SantaFeCollege1
      @SantaFeCollege1 2 года назад +5

      Admissions to any specialized program are unique to each program and there are multiple factors to consider. How many other applications were received, which nursing program you are trying to enter, nights and weekends or more traditional route, accurate completion of the application, etc. Not knowing precisely what program you applied to, we can't provide a timeframe on when you might hear back in this forum. If you have questions please feel free to reach out to the Health Sciences department.

    I plan to transfer from FIU to UF. Due to AP's , AICE and Dual I would be able to do it in an year. What does the UF admissions require for you to transfer? Is transferring bad? What are the chances of getting a high quality job as a transfer student compare to a 4 year UF student. Please help a gal out. I truly love all of your videos :)

      Hi! Thanks for watching! Great questions!
      Transferring is not bad, imo. It doesn’t matter how you get your UF degree (whether transfer, or freshman) because we are all graduating from the same university. I don’t think it matters (personally). When you graduate from UF, you can put your bachelors on your resume as from UF. Transferring doesn’t devalue your diploma. It doesn’t say that you transferred in. It says you graduated from!
      It really doesn’t matter imo. FIU is part of your story, you can include it on your resume or not. As far as the chances of getting a high quality job, it’s still UF on your resume so the chances are still great. However, like anything, just UF on your resume is not a guarantee. Definitely important to make the most of experiences, etc. I highly recommend getting involved once you get to UF, etc.

    Hi! I wanted to know if it's possible to complete half of my pre med requisites in SF before transferring to UF? Will it hurt my medical school application? I'm kind of in a financial crisis rn since my parents are immigrants and I don't wanna put a lot of pressure on them but I really wish to go to med school. Is SF a good choice for premeds?

    • @SarahLouisePickett
      @SarahLouisePickett  Год назад

      You definitely have to check with Santa Fe, but I know that I was able to complete most of my pre-Reqs at Santa Fe. Some of them may not be available or May have to be completed at UF, but the chances are you can get a good some of them done at Santa Fe.

    Hi Sarah,
    I have a question. Does UF consider involvement with a club or organization in their admissions process? How much bearing does it have on their decision to admit transfer students? In other words, if I get a high GPD in community college but don't involve with any clubs or organizations, will UF still admit me?

    • @SarahLouisePickett
      @SarahLouisePickett  2 года назад

      Hi! So, If you’re already in community college, I think it weighs a little bit less as far as involvement. GPA is definitely probably the most important but I would definitely reach out to an admissions officer to clarify. They measure the application holistically so it’s not all dependent on one thing but as a whole.

    Quick Question. Can Santa Fe students attend UF parties or tailgates? Also, is it ok for a Santa Fe student to arrive with UF merch to school?

    • @SarahLouisePickett
      @SarahLouisePickett  2 года назад

      The short answer is: there’s no rule that says you can’t. 😎

    • @SantaFeCollege1
      @SantaFeCollege1 2 года назад

      Yes, UF and SF students can attend tailgates and parties in Gainesville, whether you are welcome at parties is entirely up to the individuals hosting. SF students can wear merch from other schools. We encourage you in the pursuit of your dreams, whether that is transferring to UF, transferring to an Ivy League School, or just completing your A.S. and going directly into the workforce. Also, SF students have the ability to participate in intramural athletics at UF, and there are several partnership programs with UF - www.sfcollege.edu/transfer/uf/uf-partnership-programs/. Hope this helps. There is an Open House on March 19 at SF, there will be a housing fair, advising sessions, info on financial aid and scholarships, etc. Registration should be available starting in the next week or two so stay tuned.

    Can Santa Fe students volunteer at Gatorvision? My daughter wants to major in broadcast journalism.

    • @SarahLouisePickett
      @SarahLouisePickett  2 года назад +1

      Because the students get college credit for volunteering you would have to direct that question to the college of journalism at UF.

    Hello! I am a recent high school graduate thinking about going to Santa Fe in order to then transfer into UFs school of business . Do you know how competitive it is? And if you meet all the requirements will they most likely let you in? Also does involvement on UF campus play a factor into the transfer process? Thank you

    • @SarahLouisePickett
      @SarahLouisePickett  Год назад

      HI Nihar,
      This question would best be answered by admissions for Santa Fe or UF, but I would guess that UF involvement likely doesn't play a strong part in the transfer process. I think GPA is most important. If you are not local to Gainesville and wanted to attend your local state college and then transfer, that would also possibly be an option.

    Hey if I do 2 years at Santa Fe can I transfer to flordia state instead?

    • @SarahLouisePickett
      @SarahLouisePickett  Год назад

      If I recall, you should be able to transfer to any state college being that grades are good, application is complete, etc. Of course, it depends on a number of factors. Definetly recommend reaching out to advising at Santa Fe if this is one of your goals, as they will be ablet to direct you best.

    i heard that UF does not really act kindly towards transfer students. I heard they pressure transfer students to leave after 4 semesters. Is that true?

    • @SarahLouisePickett
      @SarahLouisePickett  2 года назад

      I have not heard that… But I will say with transfers… Once you’re in there you can’t change your major… So you have to kind of stick with the major that you go in with… But I didn’t hear anything about them pressuring you to leave after four semesters
