  • We are still transforming the Back Deck Garden and this time I am reusing some thrifty window boxes. These will continue the color scheme of the galvanized tubs for a unified look.

We use the frame of a party tent over the patio with doubled 40% black netted shade fabric. Works great! I tried the tighter woven white fabric and it was way too hot. The sun intensity is more than I remember.
We are getting storms and had 2” yesterday and so far another 1/2” and some unpredictable storms this afternoon and evening. Hope it’s not bad and I know it will pack some big wind as it’s a fast mover. Hope no hail and tornadoes-the straight line winds are bad enough. Poor pepper and tomato plants will probably lay down. Needed this rain for sooo long and hope it doesn’t dry up again. It will definitely make things grow including weeds.
😂😂you have no idea how weird that rain sounds to me as all last summer we had maybe 3”! It’s like someone has a giant faucet on and the new metal roof sounds much different than asphalt. It’s sandy and desert like microclimate and it will be odd seeing all this green after severe drought. That means I will have to mow this year-last year I mowed once.
You will have tons of flowers blooming soon! I’m waiting to see mystery flowers and I think they are foxgloves and not Canterbury Bells. It would be a first 👏🏼👏🏼.

Oh my, that weather does sound dramatic. The shade fabric sounds like it would work great. I do hope the drought is over for you and you can have some green...and not all weeds. I love the sound of rain on a metal roof. My studio cottage has a metal roof.

@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse well, we are at the tail end of severe storms right now. Another 2” of rain. Had rotation nearby but so far have not heard if it touched down.
We never had the shade fabric lift off before so the storm was a doozy like many have been seeing. The zip ties failed and it lifted and disconnected the metal frame which at that point threw the tension off. Hope that’s the only damage. Just have to flip it back down and use wire and screw the frame joints together. 😄then maybe not because it could take the whole thing then. We will see in the morning. Still super happy to get rain. Now watch we will get slugs which we never get😄

Where did you get your self watering flower boxes? I have a window area I would like to place one. I have four different hardware stores I could check or order online. Thanks on advance!

I had purchased these well over 10 years ago at Wal-Mart. I have looked for more but have not found any, yet.
