I fully support returning characters. That is the beauty of multiple playthroughs on the same planet. I am sure we will not be lacking new faces with the ability to have children :)
I agree with this! It's always nice to see new faces, of course, but this series is also unique to the others by taking place on the same planet, so I think it would be perfectly acceptable for old characters to join! Even moreso if it works with the motivations of the colonists!
Brandon has a shameful past, like all of us. The child is pure, let her gain psychic powers. The prisoner protocol is fair and just, after my own liking. Maniac, while certainly old and brutal, is still an old friend in need. Let him in.
My Thoughts exactly. I would love to see wheter Maniac is ready to let his old ways go or if his long life of brutality led him to the point, where he is so numb, that he won't take part in the charity that is Red Chappel. In this case I think we should give him some Gear and send him on his way. Maybe he'll take on a life as a hermit on a neigbouring Tile?
You should absolutely rescue Maniac, it's just too appropriate for the roleplay situation of your colony. Also... I LOVE THE FANART! Elephant power all day long! Wooo!
Must be terrifying for the raiders to be standing in the front of a dark cave only to see the person standing next to you disappear one moment, and then hearing his screams emanating from within the cave with the sounds of roaring bears, elephants and multiple gunshots haha. Congrats to Ellie for reaching childhood age, maybe if she has a stronger aptitude/depending on what skills she develops psychic powers would be great on her. Enslaving sounds harsh but as a fun movie puts it, 'Prisoners with Jobs' so I'm in favor of how this rehab program works for the betterment of those who raid. Maniac is a familiar face and I think it would be odd of the BoB to ignore help when it called on. You can probably figure out if it is best to let him go or bring him into the fold after the rescue.
And here's Issak's description of Light to go along with the artwork: "This time it's Lights turn on the spotlight! I don't think Light is as interesting psychologically wise like Took is, Light seems to me as this flat-out just terrible, unpleasant, unlikable person even before he was brain damaged.(which definitely made his problems worse as brain damage tends to do) his backstory implies he was a child with a natural talent for the arts & sought revenge for the destruction of his village by the hands of bandits but I'm not so sure about that, he IS a psychopath after all, they are pathological liars. My headcanon for Light is that he DID grew up in a tribe, and he IS artistically talented so he's telling the truth about that part, but I don't think he lost his tribe to a bandit raid as he tells it, i think he tells that story or some version of it to easily "charm" his way into peoples good graces, sympathy tactic. I think maybe he grew up in a normal family household, no abusive parents, no tragic event that turned him into this, no I think he was just an asshole, maybe bad genes, maybe his parents didn't know how to handle him growing up, or maybe he's just a terrible person of his own free will, but either way he was a pain in the ass for his tribe, always causing problems, insulting everyone, fighting when he shouldn't have, maybe he set a fire here & there, (doesn't have the pyromaniac trait but still) eventually his tribe & family had enough & he was exiled. Furious at this, I think he sold his tribe out to a group of raiders & took part in their destruction, & afterwards he just went his merry way as a psychopath does, crashing at couches, (or friendly cabins most likely in this case) not having any particular goals in life besides drawing whatever came to mind. Then somehow wooing a woman into marry him, eventually realizing his a P.O.S, divorcing him, joining a raiding party, being convinced to joining the cult of jingz after being captured, gaining powers beyond normal human capabilities, to finally being exiled once again once specs began to fear his power & moving to the jungle with the group as we know it as. Everyone at Red Chapel HATES & FEARS him, not seeing him as a true believer of boyo due to his unrepentant, jerkass attitude but also not wanting to incur his wrath as he is the most powerful psychic around, plus he is genuinely useful because of his powers. Callous, wrathful, unpleasant, remorseless & DANGEROUS. This is who Light is."
I don't know if I really agree with this characterization. I think Light's psychic power actually helped 'repair' his psycophathic mind, at least slightly. It's hard to be a soliphist as you gain perfect awareness of the minds of others. I think Light WANTS to be redeemed in the name of Boyo, but doesn't really know how, but is trying anyway.
@@MomirViggwilv Yes, that is what I believe. There was an interview with a guy, who was diagnosed psychopath, quite a few times in a prison. He knew his brain does not work as others does and he was doing his best to learn to be a part of society, because he just did not want back to prison. Maybe Light was doing all those bad stuff, not because he is a bad person, but because he just did not know better. But after being enLightened by his psychic powers, he started to understand, that something is wrong. He started to try to repent. To be better. He is not always doing best job, after all, his brain is different, but I believe, that he is trying to do his best.
My bet is, the psychic element makes him self-aware as to his effect on people but the brain damage basically cemented his attitude. He's probably extra salty cause he can't NOT be an asshole.
I kind of like keeping individual bedrooms. Even monks and nuns still had personal sleeping quarters, sparsely decorated, but they did have them. Quiet contemplation and meditation is best done in private after all. Yes, as others have said save Maniac. You don't even have to keep him as part of the colony.
Hey @PeteComplete . In 21:30 you are correct, it was Light in the cave that was going to cast berserk on the insects. It was from the middle of the 6th episode. I'm glad you liked the fanart. I could probably spend a little bit more time on planning and put more effort in it, but eh. It is what it is. Hopefully there is more art to come.
@@issakyoung2007 I could say exactly the same comparing myself to anyone who actually puts effort and time into art. What matters is enjoyment. If you draw and enjoy it, be glad and cheerish that feeling. :)
Definitely rescue Maniac. It's one of the best things about these same-world playthroughs. Next, no barracks - I think simple, monastic rooms are the best. Nothing too fancy. Finally, Ellie's also my choice for the psytrainer. She's the future of the colony, after all. By the way, I hope you're making some toys for her!
One thing you could do for Maniac, you could save him - I feel like it would be weird for them not to save an old friend - but then ask him to leave the colony afterwards. Your people will have a small mood penalty for a few days. But it's not too difficult to deal with, and you can roleplay it as once he was safe, he returned back to the old colony.
I'd love to see Maniac make it back, if you're truly worried about the playthrough looking to much like the previous I'd recommend rescuing them, for the sake of old friends, but then (maybe after a ceremony of some sort) banish them. In role play it will just be maniac leaving to go back to their colony
Please add more lights, the episodes are in the depths of the new base a lot of the time and i think it's a shame the episodes are so dark. Thanks a bunch for your years of content.
I like the concept your going with for the "Boyo Rehabilitation Center" I would rescue Maniac. It would just feel wrong if the followers of Boyo don't at least rescue their old tribe mate. From there just see how things pan out after Maniac is rescued and recovers from any injury - if he wants to join great, if not no hard feelings between friends
Skwiggs's insta-functional slap of dominance assertion though. Maniac absolutely needs to be rescued, it'd be a crime not to. Both against the colony's ideology, and because it's a really cool unique story opportunity. It seems like the Jingz village collapsed after the now-Boyo crew left, so I imagine Maniac would have the details on what happened - helping the split-off colonists find closure with their past. And it's not like we're only reusing old faces either. Speaking of that - tiny cute Ellie in her cowboy hat dragging a whole rhino absolutely needs to be in fanart.
Another great video Pete, thank you! I like the idea of taking prisoners as slaves before accepting them in - think of it as paying penance for their sins with a bit of forced labour before they're fully absolved of guilt. As for Maniac, my heart says keep him but it would be nice to see new faces this time around, so I guess it depends how many colonists you plan to have in the series.
Nice episode. 0:40 Hawk beats Monkey Could make Rock-Paper Scissors out of it: Hawk Beats Monkey. Time results in Hawk getting Lost. Monkey uses time to write all the works of Shakespear. 1:23 Ah, "the most dangerous Herd". 4:40 They are having a "population Boom"? 5:40 So this is a: Common Room, School, Temple, Research Lab. And will probably become a throneroom too, if you go that way? - Ellie the Elephant Child. Because all she wears is Elephant leather 18:44 6o661 for short? My Headcanon is that Ellie named him, based on a recent Spelling and Algebra lesson. 20:35 Rescue. Convert. Banish. That way he can spread the Faith. You can rescue him, but avoid having him too.
A recommendation: research hydroponics next, and skip the necessity of a growlight by growing nutrifungus in a deep cave isolated from light. Mitigate infestations by using a stone door, turrets when you can. You can also compartmentalize and reduce chances by using 5x5 rooms, enough room for 5 hydro basins and a walking path if you put them along the back wall from the door.
Definitely rescue Maniac. The man is ancient, and still unredeemed. This is his chance to be around children, turn over a new leaf, help a colony grow and help instead of dominate. Plus, with the ability to have children, you will definitely have new faces. If you really want to cycle through, I say rescue any old rims we've seen before, convert them, then banish them to do penance by carrying the word of Boyo to the Rimworld.
Hi Pete, you may consider the following for the next reform ideoligion: The precept Child Labor: Disapproved increases Learning gain by 20%. It doesn't directly improve growth point gain, but makes it easier to keep the Learning need high.
All the outsiders you enslave should live in a single massive barracks that's filled with art. Accept the quest to save Maniac, but make him a slave as well.
I love how in the midst of the night, Ellie suddenly wakes up for the first time ever, and immediately struts over naked to the storage room to equip a shield belt. She'll fit right in.
Lots of stuff to give input on for this one, loved the video. -I would wait until Ellie grows up before deciding who should get the psytrainer, she might get so good skill boosts - I think it would be great to accept some old characters and give them a chance at rehabilitation -Although having everyone live in a barracks would be easier I always find it less believable as is real life nobody would really choose to switch to that if they already have their own space no matter how small the space is -Finally it might also be a good idea to repurpose the old base for boomalope pens and/or chemfuel storage Keep up the great videos, always love your stories
they're extremely powerful from a minmax perspective. more efficient wealth because everyone gets the same impressive room bonuses, more space efficient meaning fewer materials and shorter travel time. plus the beds can share end tables and cabinet bonuses.
Brandon for psycaster; Ellie can always get genetically modified later. Barracks are also a good idea and can potentially give you the space for a BIG colony. Also Maniac was destined to come back, RNGesus has spoken!
Rescuing Maniac would be pretty cool. The proud Cult of Jingz begging help from their apostates? It's too good. He can just go back to the cold bog to his wife afterwards. I also think that Took should get the psychic neuroformer, to protect him when he goes out!
Please keep in mind armed or recently drafted children are much more likely to be targeted by raiders rather than unnarmed. However I'm not sure if the shield belt counts. Great video, loving the story so far XD
Definitely should go rescue Maniac--it would be interesting to see things come full circle. Also, I think Ellie should be given the opportunity to acquire psycaster powers--while she may not be on the same level as Light, having such powers in the hands of someone less volatile and cruel (hopefully) might be good for the Believers of Boyo. I think your prisoner conversion policy seems reasonable, and I think everyone should keep their own rooms. Your colonists deserve private places to quietly atone for their misdeeds as the long, slow dark falls over the jungle.
From the groups perspective, they have already left Maniac behind once before with the cult. I do not believe they would leave him behind yet again. I fully support bringing on board and teaching him the new ways. No one is more in need of redemption than formar cult memebers. Their sins are his sins as well. Bring him into the fold!
Skwiggs slapping a Boomalope to tame it. That's brave. Also, I think Maniac could return. It would fit in the roleplay, I can't imagine this repenting colony leaving an old friend to die and we will see plenty of new faces anyways.
Children usually hit top tier learning if you just let them do their thing and have adults teach them when they want to. Still, I found that given how the learning meter caps at 100% and they won't do any learning until it goes back down to 90%, I found that sometimes when they sleep for 8 hours straight, they go way below 90%. What I usually do is have the children all follow a bi-phasic schedule (usually 4 hours of sleep, 8 hours of anything). That way they NEVER go below 89-90%, so you'll always git top tier in every growth moment.
Barracks would be more fitting to a Space Marine approach of redemption, IMHO. Technically there is nothing against developing the series in the direction of that kind of "developed zealots, which have now seen the light of the Emperor" but that might be too much of a change of orientation. Would need a separate chapel with a huge statue of HIM as well. Just keep the single rooms for individual contemplation and keep them modest in their ways or develop a mob to "purify the heretics". Tough decision. But much fun in both directions ...
Great episode as always! I would've been in favor of having the BoB sleep in barracks, but given that some people might eventually become couples, that wouldn't be so nice for everyone else...
If you are going to go with boomalopes i think the lore for the believers of boyo should be fire/explosion related, lets put that chemfuel to work! :) love your rimworld content pete!
From a purely role-play standpoint barracs would fit it you are planning on making the idealogy more collectivist and maybe more joyful? Separate bedrooms might nicely fit a monotheic sort of run, where penance and solitude are valued and more gruesome memes are implemented
The enslaving of prisoners seems very Puritan/Protestant, but its a neat way to handle the situation. What's weird, though, is that I'm currently rewatching the Cold Bog and seeing you get electricity at episode 7 is quite the change from the primitive tribal setting in that series.
Assuming that Ellie manages to keep her learning over 90% you'll have the pick of 1 trait from a selection of 3 at each of her 3 growth spurts. So there is a chance that psychic sensitivity will pop up. Unless you really need a new psycaster right at this moment I'd still hold onto the neurolink until you see if Ellie becomes more suitable.
Why not go for the second reward, the legendary shirt? Having a legendary item always makes things more interesting. Also, that Earl of Bronze picture was awesome!
Skwiggs pulling a risky move by slapping a boomalope to assert dominance! Woulda laughed if it blew up in her face! Also missed Ooooopportunity to rename that other one BOooooom### (whatever numbers it was)
I am definitely in favour of barracks-style gameplay. Barracks saves you tons of resources, time, labour, and wealth that would otherwise go into individual bedrooms, also when your barracks has a unbelievably impressing rating, can can turn your barracks into a dining and rec room, and your colonists will get bonuses for unbelievably impressive rec room, unbelievably impressive dining room, and unbelievably impressive barracks all from the same room. As for Maniac, sure - Seeing new faces are cool, but having the opportunity to save someone from an old colony has got to be extremely rare, therefore I think you should take it. Also, change the standing light setting so that it emits darklight instead :)
isn't it a fine opportunity to proof the superiority of the believers of boyo? I would gladly see maniac back and redeem himself. and no matter who is to be rescued, it's still a charitable thing to do
I would say rescue Maniac. from a roleplay view, he could maybe make his mission to tell others about the Boyo, and leave the camp for a pilgrimitsh. that way it makes sense, that the beliver of Boyo rescue him, and also that not all old faces are seen and maybe shortly after he converted someone and a new face shows up.
I support taking maniac back in. After conversion, you could have him change his name as a way of redemption, and rolling the dice for a patreon ? Else just keeping him as is is good enough.
For Prisoners, I would say that any non-perma hostile faction enemies should be released after converting for a chance of redeeming themselves while the pirate factions that are always hostile should be sold to the empire for honor, to atone for their wrongdoings.
I was trying in my head to play devils advocate. To not save maniac. But I couldn’t do it. It’s kinda insane that the game is giving you this opportunity, so you must absolutely full send. Bring him home.
Echoing what others have said - rescuing Maniac doesn't have to mean recruiting them. And I don't for a minute think the Believers would leave anyone (especially a former friend) in peril if they had the means to do something about it. Worst-case, if he does join, ONE returning character across all your Rimworld series' so far isn't a huge deal.
Rescue Maniac but make him understand his luck is to be found elsewhere (banish him). Concerning Ellie: As uncle Argyle has put it in Braveheart: First learn how to use ... 🧠 this. Then I'll teach you to use ... 🗡 this.
I think that barracs are fine idea as it would really well synergize with charity theme of the colony, but maybe Ellie (and maybe other children should they appear in the series) should live seperatly from the adults? Or maybe just leave the nursery apart from the main barrac? It just a thought that came to my mind since not everyone would like to share a room with a rowdy child.
Modifying a child to imbue them with psionic powers seems like a dubious moral proposition. The kid is what, three? At least wait until she's old enough to have some concept of what she's getting in to.
I'm personally against enslaving the prisoners, and have to urge you to reconsider it. That doesn't seem very charitable at all. It feels far too much like the Believers are considering slipping into the Old Ways they are trying to redeem themselves from - that's not a step forward, that's a step back. On the topic of Maniac... Help him! Charity is essential, and turning him away because you once knew him is a betrayal of the Believers ideals. I don't think many of us really are going to mind seeing old faces return, and I feel it's more important to the narrative of the campaign to maintain that charitable and redemption-seeking path going strong. Though the Cult may have abhorrently cruel beliefs, that does not make them unworthy of your assistance - if anything, it shows just how much they require it.
Yea the enslavement doesn't feel very canon or proportional, unless the ideology has memes which favour or require slavery then accepting joining the colony after being converted should be sufficient penance. They may have attacked first but no harm was done this time.
Lots of questions in this episode - let me know how we should proceed! Enjoy :)

Hey Pete, for future reference, Raiders and angry animals will ignore pen animals in favor of reaching your Colonist's/the colony's beds
Rescue and redeem Maniac! What a wonderful plot continuity!
Hi Pete,
you may consider the following for the next reform ideoligion:
The precept Child Labor: Disapproved increases Learning gain by 20%.
-I would wait until Ellie grows up before deciding who should get the psytrainer, she might get so good skill boosts
- I think it would be great to accept some old characters and give them a chance at rehabilitation
-Although having everyone live in a barracks would be easier I always find it less believable as is real life nobody would really choose to switch to that if they already have their own space no matter how small the space is
-Finally it might also be a good idea to repurpose the old base for boomalope pens and/or chemfuel storage
Keep up the great videos, always love your stories
Barracks would be an interesting change of pace and I've always been curious how viable barracks are with all the interrupted sleep
they're extremely powerful from a minmax perspective. more efficient wealth because everyone gets the same impressive room bonuses, more space efficient meaning fewer materials and shorter travel time. plus the beds can share end tables and cabinet bonuses.
Brandon for psycaster; Ellie can always get genetically modified later. Barracks are also a good idea and can potentially give you the space for a BIG colony.
Also Maniac was destined to come back, RNGesus has spoken!
Keeping Boomalope is such a strong choice. The downsides are obvious but easily dealt with and the benefits are ridiculous.
Fatty McCool is an absolute legend. I wouldnt be surprised to see an ideology based on the legend of Fatty McCool sprout somewhere on the planet
Rescue Maniac, seems thematically appropriate. Barracks is both a good theme, and different from prior series. Prisoner plan seems good as well.
Rescuing Maniac is a no brainer for me. It would almost be story breaking not to save an old comrade from the darkness of their own soul.
The idea for the prisoners sounds great in my opinion
Maniac has just found out the way of Boyo, so Boyo cant leave Maniac! Please rescue him! :D
Go get maniac!! They wouldn’t leave a friend behind.
Old face or not, Maniac is in trouble and needs to be rescued!
I really do enjoy your Rimworld series.
WOOAH You played Sims in this channel? Time to binge watch them too!
I like to imagine Light benefits from the sculptures because they're all coated in a sweet smelling chemical
I love how there's an escape tunnel in the prison cell 😂
Ellie for the psychic powers.
Definitely recue Maniac
Yes to barracks living quarters
6:12 well, beauty is still in the eye of the beholder. Right, Light?
From a purely role-play standpoint barracs would fit it you are planning on making the idealogy more collectivist and maybe more joyful? Separate bedrooms might nicely fit a monotheic sort of run, where penance and solitude are valued and more gruesome memes are implemented
I think it would be cool to rescue maniac. I love the continuity
The enslaving of prisoners seems very Puritan/Protestant, but its a neat way to handle the situation. What's weird, though, is that I'm currently rewatching the Cold Bog and seeing you get electricity at episode 7 is quite the change from the primitive tribal setting in that series.
Hi Pete!
Return Maniac to the fold!
What kind of question is that?
Go get our boy Maniac back!!!
Out of all the factions to be sold to, the empire might be the best one
Assuming that Ellie manages to keep her learning over 90% you'll have the pick of 1 trait from a selection of 3 at each of her 3 growth spurts. So there is a chance that psychic sensitivity will pop up.
Unless you really need a new psycaster right at this moment I'd still hold onto the neurolink until you see if Ellie becomes more suitable.
Yes, that seems like an excellent idea!
Why not go for the second reward, the legendary shirt? Having a legendary item always makes things more interesting. Also, that Earl of Bronze picture was awesome!
Skwiggs pulling a risky move by slapping a boomalope to assert dominance! Woulda laughed if it blew up in her face!
Also missed Ooooopportunity to rename that other one BOooooom### (whatever numbers it was)
Can't wait to be tired at work tomorrow. Thanks
I would gladly see maniac back and redeem himself. and no matter who is to be rescued, it's still a charitable thing to do
You should definitely rescue and maybe convert Maniac, whether he stay with the Boyos after that is another matter
Yes, perfect for bedtime.
Thank you Pete.
Seeing Maniac be converted to Boyo would be cool
I was trying in my head to play devils advocate. To not save maniac.
But I couldn’t do it. It’s kinda insane that the game is giving you this opportunity, so you must absolutely full send. Bring him home.
Echoing what others have said - rescuing Maniac doesn't have to mean recruiting them. And I don't for a minute think the Believers would leave anyone (especially a former friend) in peril if they had the means to do something about it.
Worst-case, if he does join, ONE returning character across all your Rimworld series' so far isn't a huge deal.
posted 46 seconds ago. I'm right on time
The sensible thing to do would be give it to Brandon. But I say make a psychic super child. Lol. What could possibly go wrong.
Thanks Pete .
Rescue maniac,
Awesome job 👏
As a father of three I tell you, you do NOT want to have kid able to cast spells.
no to barracks and maniac is my vote :)
