    • @mariotolentino557
      @mariotolentino557 Год назад +15

Those horse driven “caretela” drivers lie and will say something lower price when they’re “selling” their ride but then they will show you the price on their card which is way too high than what their “come on” sell was. I am a Fil-American visitor being taken around by a local host and the same scam happened and we almost got into a fight but they were so many of these “drivers” that we were afraid of our lives.
To tourists: don’t get sold with this horse-drawn carts. They are scammers!

Hi Gabi, I've watched your vlogs before. If you still plan to ride around Philippines, I would suggest roaming the island of Luzon first since some of the most scenic roads and landscapes are here. Mindanao is an underrated island with lots of hidden gems and indigenous culture. You might hear a lot of bad stuff about Mindanao but its generally safe. Visayas region is beautiful too with tons of surprises on different islands but you need to prepare mentally and physically for the long RoRo boat rides. Regarding food, Filipinos prefer more of home-cooking than streetfood. You're lucky if a Filipino family invites you to dine with them. Best of luck!

the most densely populated thing only applies to Manila city, which is just a tiny part of Metro Manila. It's almost like the old forgotten part (destroyed during WW2). Most of the commerce and business have moved further inland like Makati, Ortigas, and BGC. Those are the new "downtowns"

Hello Gab, good to see you exploring our country. I'm a Filipino from Davao City but im currently residing in Macau for more than 5 yrs and been travelling to different countries particularly Asia, my last travel just recently last Feb in Phuket and Bangkok I am happy that i found your vlog and really learned many things. Now seeing you exploring our country makes me more happy that you will experience and learnfrom our culture. But its a sad thing to know that you got scammed, well actually this is not new to us even us local people still a target for this shameful things thats one of the reason that me myself never explored Manila but by watching this video makes me want to. Manila is just our gateway going up north or flying abroad. Regarding about your plan buy a motorcycle is not the best thing to do coz yeah theres a lot of paperwork it will not took you just a week but more than a month luckily you didnt pursue.Just renting is the best way. Anyway try to visit CEBU is theres a lot of activities there i know you will enjoy. Also consider Mindanao specially Siargao its a backpackers haven for young people. Try also consider Baguio, Benguet & Sagada if you want high mountains, if you want beach mindanao has a lot to offer from mountain ranges to sea. Samal Island is one of few.. I am happy to tour you but unfortunately im not in philippines currently. Hope you enjoy your visit there..reagards to you and ploy! DAGHANG SALAMAT

My first time to the Philippines was in April 1986. My friend and I were walking along Roxas Blvd (exactly where you were) and we were told by the driver of the horse and buggy that the next block was very dangerous and he would give us a free ride to the “safe” zone (one block).
After we got in, the driver kept going and was speeding up when we asked him to stop.
It was only when we stood up to jump off that he finally stopped and demanded money.
    Some things never change…

If you live in the Philippines for at least 14 days, you would know that something like a horse drawn carriage, which is only for tourism should cost a minimum of 500 pesoses. Why did You pay a scammer 200 pesos? For that You could have had a car from GRAB and ride across all Manila, haha... Don't encourage scammers. 50 pesos max or nothing for that scammer. Usually Filipinos are honest and even way more honest than Thais. But most scams in Philippines are in Taxi's and in stuff that's only there for tourists. I lived in Manila for half year and never even saw a horse, and here You are - riding a horse and being scammed in couple days from arrival. My advice - don't even do things that locals would never do. Like - don't ride those stupid horses or regular taxi's. Never. Don't go to bars or restaurants that only tourists go etc. Because You just asking to be scammed. You live in Asia, so don't act like first time tourist, haha :) Use some common sense.
PS. Same thing in Boracay - don't pay more than 200 pesos to those electric taxis ever. I saw a tourist paying 900 instead of 50 pesos. If You not sure - just ask locals. Filipinos are very helpful (usually).

Mabuhay Gabi! Definitely recommend staying and hanging more around BGC in your next time in Metro Manila - which for anyone who hasn't been here is the new downtown area for Metro Manila. It comes alive from 5pm, but during the day its quiet and chilled. The area is fully developed and has places like the Mind Museum, American Cemetary, Venice Grand Central Mall, Bonifacio High Street (the main uptown lifestyle center for the entire metro), and Forbes Town (for chilled restaurants and evening hanging out). Another place you could see next time is the SM Mall Of Asia (MOA) complex called Bay City which a large new area in Manila Bay. That's where you'll see all us ordinary middle class Filipinos and other tourists if going by the Bay area. That part of the bay you went to is a bit sketchy to be honest, so I'm not surprised you were scammed by that calesa driver (we avoid taking calesas). At Bay City you can ride on the Manila Eye ferris wheel with lovely views of the entire metro, see the world's largest Ikea store, and the world's second largest dancing fountain at Okada. They do free shows between 6-10pm every day. The thing with Metro Manila is that there's a big divide - most tourists and expats hang out in the better areas of the metro like BGC and Bay City. Binondo is culturally rich, but its in the sketchy part of the city. Makati too is getting a bit dated now, since the center has shifted to BGC, and it shows in the dilapidated quality of the Makati sidewalks and sometimes sketchy characters who are there.
If you're able to go to Baguio and the Cordillera highlands and see the 2,500 year old rice terraces on the UNESCO world heritage list (its 3-4 hour trip via bus on the expressway to Baguio, but a longer trip to see the rice terraces once you're in the pine-filled highlands) - or Batanes (the NZ of Southeast Asia), its highly highly recommended - its unique to this country :) Subbed!

Eto ang mga problema ng pinas kaya konti lang ang mga foreign tourists at hindi sila nagtatagal sa ating bansa:
    1. Wala tayong modernong infrastructure.
    2. Wala tayong modernong transportation
    3. Mahina or walang internet
    4. Nawawalan ng kuryente (brownout)
    5. Mahina or nawawalan or walang tubig
    6. Nakawan sa NAIA airport
    7. Expensive accomodations
    8. Maraming mandurukot, snatchers at mga kriminal
    13. Illegal squatters, street dwellers and beggars everywhere, particularly children asking money from foreigners.
Tapos sasabihin natin "Its more fun in the Phlippines" ??? Nakakahiya ! Tourism will boost our local economy kasi foreigners spend money in our country which helps our local business to earn more. The local and national government MUST do something to solve/fix these problems.

Sadly, My husband and I were also scammed in Rome, in 2006. I did not know that we had to buy the bus ticket in a kiosk. What I did was to have my payment ready, the same we do in Spain. Two people, male and female, in uniform, when we got off, charged us €400/for two people because we did NOT buy our bus ticket at the kiosk. It seems they were just pretending to be bus inspectors for the government. We paid them 200 Euros to finish off the discussion. In Venice, in 2012, we were scammed again. This time, I ordered steak, but it was horse steak, passed off as cow entrecot. Oh well.

Hey Gabi, nice to see you again. I just discovered a few weeks ago the Casino areas in Manila. There are not so many videos on youtube about there but the places look amazing. I am talking about Okada Manila, City of Dreams, and Solaire. They have a shopping center beach clubs and a Casino area. If you have time and make a video there it will be very nice to watch. There is also SM Mall which is one of the biggest malls in the world.
    Thank you

The horseman said 15. Hans 😅 the word hundred he said under his nose 👃 very quiet . 😊 than you said you took the ride for 50 pesos ( in front of his face - he did hear that but ignored ) cos you was already on board. And 50 pesos is better than nothing 😂. Yeah usually scamming. Many of them in philippines. More attention and no one scam you 😂❤ I came to philippines with 100$ in my pocket. And live for a 5 years. On the beach island life ❤🎉😅 love philippines 🇵🇭. Enjoy dude. Hope no more scams for you. And don’t forget to visit Panglao bohol island. ❤ cao ❤

He's ruining the good traits of most Filipinos and the Tourism in his own country. That's so cunning. I felt bad as well and we're sorry for that bad experience. 😔

Next time you hop into a taxi karitela or tricycle verify and double check before you enter into an agreement. This drivers sometimes take advantage but the Grab, buses and jeepneys are more reliable. Yes, Manila is so diversified even us locals come in different shapes, sizes and colors but we are friendly and loving people. There are also many Filipinos in Italy. In fact our last candidate in the last Ms Universe is half Italian and half Filipino

I understand you, Gabi, and I also notice that the driver of the kalesa said 50, and you also repeat that to him: 50 pesos. You're doing right to get down and not continue to travel. He should say thank you to you because at least you gave 200 pesos, which is not bad. Not all horse carriage drivers in that area are scammers; there are a lot who are really good. I'm so sorry, but to all my fellow Filipinos who are working on the tourist spots, be true to the foreigners; don't be scammy to the foreigners because you put your job at risk and to the tourist industry of the Philippines, and it will be shameful and disappointing for foreigners, which may cause the Philippines a bad impression and cause it to lose foreign tourists in the future.
