I miss my island! Guam is where I grew up. Harmon Village, Carlos Heights, Marianna's Terrace. I have been home so many, many times in my heart and in my dreams. I left Guam (physically) to serve in the United States Air Force with tears in my eyes. I love Guam. I have a lot of family and loved ones there. I would do just about anything to be home again. God protect our Island of Guam. 💓 💓 💓!!!

I grew up on Guam from 10 to 17. Went to New Piti elementary school, Agat Junior High school and then George Washington (GW) High School. Guam is indeed a paradise. I miss and love Guam and still dream of it all these years later… running the jungle, waterfalls in Nimitz Hill, Sigua Falls, Talafofo, snorkeling the bomb craters in Asan and Piti. I was stationed at Anderson AFB in 1998-2000. My father was in the Navy during the Vietnam war and was stationed in Guam as well. I still dream of Guam all the time. I loved the beauty, the beaches, the parties, etc,.. I loved the history, and the waterfalls. I still dream of the beauty, the looooong flight to get there and home in Detroit. I miss the stars at night, and my youth. I'm very thankful to have lived there for 18 months. The people and the women were so sweet. I remember snorkeling, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, softball games, etc.. I remember the football games, boxing with the Navy pukes. I remember the strip clubs, bars, fistfights, and barely escaping trouble from the SP's and MP's;) Being from Detroit, the weather melted everything. I never sweat like I did in Guam. God blessed me on my journey there... God bless the Chomorrans.. Hafa Adai with love from Detroit, Michigan........

I definitely haven't forgotten Guam. I arrived in Guam in January 1964. Apra Harbor on the NW tip of Guam was the homeport of my ship USS Brister DER 327. From Guam we conducted patrols of the Trust Territories of the Pacific, mainly the Mariana Islands and Caroline Islands. I thoroughly enjoyed drives around the island and visits to Anderson AFB. I enjoyed the beauty of the island and hospitality of the Chamorro people. At the end of our deployment in Guam we received orders to set up a blockade of Vietnam.

Thank you for your discussion of Guam. For many years my ship was based in Guam with Apra Harbor as its home port under the command of COMNAVMAR, Commander Naval Forces Guam. I spent 1964 either in Guam or on patrols of the Trust Territories of the Pacific. Always visiting with the people of Guam and touring the island. So much has changed since 1964. I would love to visit this island paradise once again.

When I visited Jamaica years ago, the tour of the island included a visit to "Lover's Leap" - and if you were bold, stupid and willing to sign a waiver that you understand the risk - you could jump off the cliff into the beautiful clear Caribbean water below. Yes, the chances were good that you'd survive - but if you didn't, I was told the tour company would box you up and send you home.

Guam is not forgotten by a long shot. Guam is a very important strategic territory. The US Marines fought hard to retrieve Guam at the end of WW2 . Today the Air Force, US Navy and US Marines have bases on Guam....It is Strategically located in the Pacific...and very important

My father served in the US Navy and I was born in Guam. My family is originally from the Philippines but we now call Virginia our home. I’ve only been to Guam once due to a 4 hour layover from a project I did in Majuro. It’s my dream to visit my birth place before I die and I hope to one day fulfill it soon because for me time is running out. I ask permission from the spirits in Guam to help me with my wish to make my dream a reality to visit the beautiful island of Guam, my birthplace. Thank you spirits.

Been to Guam and Saipan a Titian by cargo ship. Guam our house had a bushes but if you go through it they was a beautiful sandy beach all to my self. They were huge shell with the creature inside some of them can sting you. Ate coconut crab. Fun loving people. The fad was barbecue meant cut thin with chill pepper vinegar, soy, and fresh leave spices.
    Fun summer

jake bangga hello, I was so happy to see your, another navy mans, post here. In 1968-1972 I served on two small ships, an ocean going tug and a weather ship, that frequented porting on Guam. I was one a a few that took to the roads and not so much the base bar while tied to the pier in Guam. We went to the lovers leap, it was just the Clift and sea below no railing or pavement. Not recalling how exactly a few of us made it the islands interior to splash in the jungle water fall. On one outing, one of my Buddies brought his surfboard, yes, he surfed in Vietnam as well. We drove around the island and he surfed a few spots it was amazing, most were without others. Went shelling along a rough coral coastline got stranded without water, found, shelled and cracked open coconuts. Near the base there was an off limits area we wandered onto where the cliffs fell away into a jungle with Iguanas, scared the crap out of us! At the bottom there were large looming boulders of old coral with caves that opened to the sea and the most unbelievably beautiful lagoons. One we could see light thru. Of course we ran, one at a time, screaming, thru the cave with cameras, packs, water and other goodies...Sorry, I’m going on...I’m old! We do that...amI Right? At any rate it was a fantastically wonderful island...glad I took the opportunity to get out there...oh yes did the bar, kicked giant frogs on the way back to the ship...who didn’t? Turns out they, the frogs are an invasive pest. So no karma loss...JD😊 🙏🏽🌏✌🏽

The amount of Japanese people that visit there on vacation is astounding. There is also a large Filipino population there also that I did not know of. Again, such a beautiful and peaceful place to visit.

I am a native of Guam, born on the island & became US citizen, the generations after the WWII. The island has its fables & religious believes-Catholicism, but over the years other religion came on island call Protestants back then, other Denominations came on island also. Missionaries came on island, Baptist, Lutherans, Methodise, SDA's, Jewish, Christianity etc etc. Not all Chamorro's beliefs in the fables & supertistious believes of the island. Our people has been educated & knows what's is true & ancient traditional, those who believes on these things is there choice but others chose not too with all due respect... Christianity is a growing faith over the island as well by personal choice. I for one falls under that Faith ...

My father was on board the U.S.S Penguin stationed at Apra Harbor, Guam when the Japanese attacked. They had received radio traffic about the Pearl Harbor attack and were outside the harbor when they were stradled by two bombs a half-mile off shore. Only one person died and sixty were wounded and they brought him to shore. They made it to shore in life rafts. The Naval Governor of the island was Navy Captain George McMillin. The Japanese landed over 5,000 troops to battle the opposition force of 653 (153 Marines, 271 sailors, 134 civilian construction workers and members of Pan American Airways and 80 members of the Guamanian Inuslar Force Guards). Almost all of the American service personnel were taken prisoner to Japan. Some escaped into the jungle and were aided by the Chamorro people of Guam. They never gave up the Americans even after sustaining brutal treatment and death at the hands of the Japanese soldiers. My father always said the people of Guam were some of the nicest people that he had met and he always had a special place in his heart for the way they hid the American escapees. For more information about the Pacific theater and POWs see: www.mansell.com/pow-index.html .May the Good Lord bless and keep the Chamorro people for all that they have done to help the United States in our time of need. Beautiful video, by the way. Very well done.
