Denzel, thank you so much dude! We’ll get there some day, I just have to keep pumping out more videos! I really appreciate your comment and feedback on how you found me. Enjoy the content and feel free to ask any questions you have in the comments!
It's su-ray 😊 I also wanted review the lenses on the fx30 for my thunderstorm recordings. But sirui didn't offered me one of these. Instead I will get their new camera cage for the fx30 😅🤌
J Fritts! Not sure if you remember me or not, but I met you back in WA back in the day. Great to see you come up on my feed and glad to see you still working on video stuff! Not going to lie, almost made me tear up a little bit. Instant subscribe!
By the way, I’m currently a Sony full frame shooter who does work that requires lenses with autofocus and I’ve been loving using some of the Samyang VAF Cine autofocus lenses. Very cool what you get for the price. With that said, my Sony A1 has an APSC mode and this video has me thinking about these lenses a bit as well for some of the interviews I do occasionally.
Dude that’s awesome!! I rely on autofocus for certain styles of shooting as well, so I find myself running my rf 15-35mm most of the time instead of these primes, but for detail shots (if I have more time to set up my shots) these lenses are pretty clutch! And since I usually run two cameras and can only operate one during interviews, the autofocus on my rf lenses comes in clutch as well 🙏🏼 but I will say for certain shots the Sirui lenses are handy! I just wish they were full frame at least so I could run them on my stills camera without a nasty crop! I have a new campaign video I shot for the company I work with that will be released next week, and I used these lenses in the intro sequence of the film, and they do blend incredibly well with my much more expensive glass. It’s very impressive! Dude I’m so happy to hear from you!
@@Jay_Fritts Sounds like a great strategy! I like that the autofocus lens is on the wider end in your strategy (pulling focus in super wide shots where the subject is small on a tiny screen can be very difficult in my experience). I predominantly shoot darker indoor events where video lighting isn’t appreciated most often like weddings, large faith-based events, and fundraisers, so being able to get candid shots at higher focal lengths in low environmental lighting is more the direction I am forced to go in for my lens strategy most of the time (my go-to favorites are my Sony 70-200 GM OSS II f/2.8, my Samyang 135 f/1.8, and my Tamron 35-150 f/2-f/2.8). I think the Nighwalker series looks great to guys like me who do photo and video but are mostly happy with their non-cine lenses already. I occasionally do work for small businesses and churches where interviews are required and it would be nice to have at least one of these at such an attractive price. Downside is that I would lose 4K resolution shooting in S35 mode on my FX3, but if I stick to the A1 that wouldn’t be a problem.
Years ago I had a set of Zeiss manual focus lenses for my camera. The focus ring on the XF.2 21mm was really loose for me at first compared to my 35 and 100. I got used to it and after a while, it didn't bother me any more. I'm hoping it will be the same for the 24 I just ordered. Just an amateur so the price is really right for someone like me.
@@Jay_Fritts No. I have fujfilm now and I just ordered the 24mm Sirui. Excited to try manual focus again. I miss it even though I know some shots will end up being a bit off focus.
@@richardcarlson112 oh okay I gotcha! Dude that’s so exciting. There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of missed focus! There’s something very authentic about hand pulling focus, even when you miss a little bit! Can look great depending on what you’re filming 🙌🏼
Looking forward to seeing what you do with them! Mine just shipped from Sirui, can't wait to throw them on my C70. Have you tried them on the R5 in movie crop mode?
JP, thanks for the comment brother! I’m excited to get some more tests thrown on here as well! Nice, rockin the c70 too! 😁 I haven’t actually tried that?! Do you know if the files remain in 4K with the crop factor?
@@Jay_Fritts Yup! Movie crop mode on the R5 is actually fantastic. Its supersampled from around 6k, looks almost as good as 4K HQ without the heating issues (not that that is a huge problem anyway).
I've seen other reviews saying that, they actually dont color match which is a big leet down as all other cons I could live with but if you dont match at least in color and even micro-contrast, you can really call yourself a cine lens set.
Great video. Basically the lenses are: 37mm 1.8 - 55mm 1.8 - 85mm 1.8. And if you need sharper content you’ll stop down so might be at t4 totally negating it’s 1.2 feature. Then you have the issue of that 55 and 85, that’s a bad lens combo for cinema (personally). Be hard pressed for a dp to consider that. They should have made it sharper with useful focal lengths like 16mm T1.5 (24 T2) - 27mm T1.5 (40 T2) - 40mm T1.5 (60 T2). 85 is a good focal length but there’s a reason most dp’s shoot wide as possible. 85 is jarring, isolating, only good for extreme close ups (which ANY lens can do anyway regardless of barrel distortion) it’s boring, flat and can be lifeless and they keep pumping these photography focal lengths into cine kits. If you’re on a budget recommend taking that money for the full Sirui set and buying 1 Irix T1.5 30mm or 21mm and then buying a 50mm vintage glass cause that 50 (75 equiv) will be used sparingly.
Thank you for throwing in those conversions! I agree with pretty much everything you said. Very well put! I definitely love 85mm personally so I don’t mind the cropped conversions for these Super 35mm focal lengths, my issue is that there is no true wide angle in the lineup… they aren’t my favorite focal lengths, but for the price, they aren’t too shabby! I am typically one to spend more on one lens rather than three budget friendly options, so these lenses aren’t game changers for me. However, I do feel they provide the ability for me to get creative in ways my other lenses don’t allow! Thanks for your comment!
This is good content however I would say your tone can come off a bit elitist, especially when laughing after saying an entry level cinema lense isn’t for people who use autofocus. But educate and be humble ❤
You deserve more of an audience man! Great video. I found it on my recommended page.

Thank you for clarifying that! And dang bro! I’m curious to see what you do with the new cage! Is it made by Sirui?
@@Jay_Fritts yes made by Sirui it looks exactly like the tilta cage but with sirui branding

Horrible review. Barely any footage of the actual lenses.
