My name is Garrett. I am a full-time commercial producer, part-time film professor, and avid whiskey enthusiast living in Metro Detroit. I began on RUclips to help bridge the technical and financial gap filmmakers face by giving away the same content I talk about in my classrooms. Learn tricks of the trade, discover new gear, stay up with filmmaking trends, dive into how I pull off cinematic looks, and so much more. Кино
Amazing content! Love that you didn’t but talk bout the lenses but showed their capabilities!!!! Rooting for this channel!!!
What I came to realize when people say "character", is a marketing way of saying their clinical imperfections.
LMAO! It definitely can be. Lenses though are artistically measured on a scale of clinical to character. Most high-end, expensive, cinema lenses are sold due to their unique and specific characteristics, even if they aren’t clinically perfect. Cooke is a great example of that kind of brand.
Those "stranger scenes" look freaking awesome. I just came here to see your lens review but seeing that was a major bonus. Great job, man.
Amazing and detailed review! Really helps me going into my first feature film shoot!
Thanks!
Best video on the lenses I could find, thank you!
Surprised this doesn’t have more views. the production on this is out of this world!!!
Appreciate that my guy! 🤙
True. I believe it's down to the featured product. Video itself is great!
Amazing review! Thanks!
This was absolutely godly. Thank youuuuuuuuu!!!!
Quality review my dude. Appreciate your "up north" shirt.
It’s not a phase mom, it’s a lifestyle 🤙
Awesome video and review. Love this guy and the production for the vid.
I was just on ST5 set. Their BTS was a c500 and the lens i swear was the size of my thigh. Huge. I just started getting unto this since i have gone the retired route. Its WILD to me just how much goes into their scenes its crazy. Great recreation. Really enjoy your videos. Good stuff.
2:34 I know this type of explanation is done to simplify things, but it confuses a lot of people. Length is length same as millimeters are millimeters. The *length* is not "based" on full frame or vistavision. Lenses just look like whatever they look on each sensor size you put them on. In this case, these look like what each of those focal lengths look like and have always looked like in cinema. Meaning, this 24mm gives you the same angle of view as what a 24mm did in [insert favorite classic film shot on super35.]
THANK YOU!
Thanks! I always got confused because my 16mm does look like a 16mm on my aps-c camera and it doesn’t look like 24mm that explains it thank you so much
How’s that chromatic aberration?
Hello, will these lenses give exact focal length on a FX30? A bit confused, can you help with an answer?
I have a question, for photography is it good?
Maybe someone knows how is it working with Sonya7 III
Impressive , most impressive !
I read this in Emperor Palpatine’s voice
so d they come with a crop factor on fx30?
Nope, since the fx30 has a super 35 sensor ( also known as an apsc sensor) which is exactly what the lenses are made for.
Your work is amazing. I'm now sold on this len! I tried to use your code Garrett as per what is in the description on Sirui store as per your link but didn't work. Then I tried Garrett5, and it work. So should the code be Garrett5? Thanks!
Oh that’s good to know! I’ll update the info. Appreciate you friend 🤙
I didn't like how you explained the focal lengths, you said they're not based on a full frame sensor and gave equivalents, but I think that explanation confuses more than just explaining that the s35 sensor is just smaller than a FF sensor, because the focal lengths are the same, just one looks wider than the other one because of the sensor size.
Sorry for the confusion! You’re absolutely right. These are super 35 lenses, meaning they do not cover full frame sensors. All lenses, with the exception of MFT, have focal length measured against full frame coverage. That’s why there’s a crop factor on these lenses, hence the listed equivalents. 🙏
@@garrettsammons sorry so what do the MFT lenses measure against? MFT?
Aren't they compatible with Canon R5?
Yes they are
Can get an achromatic diopter to solve some of the issues!
My main anamorphic lens should be a 16mm = *24mm equivalent* . . .
Did Sirui not make one??
These ones aren’t anamorphic, they’re standard. I know SIRUI has a few lines of anamorphic lenses, but I’m not sure about their field of view.
Still looking for a review that isn't sponsored/affiliated with Sirui.
Hey Bunkertons! SIRUI didn’t pay me for the review and the lenses are going back to them now that the review is complete. I don’t let brands preview review videos or give input into the content of what I say/write. I make sure to be 100% honest in my reviews.
Not having to purchase products up front allows me to review more things for the channel, while keeping my costs down. I hope that makes sense. I don’t want you to get the wrong idea of how/why I review gear 😊
WHERE IS THE 16MM AND THE 75?
This review is from 4 months ago..
Ok, One question...24 OR 35? Just looking to pick up one.
I’m a fan of wide angle lenses personally. I’d go 24.
Is it auto focus?
Fully manual
Pointless now to watch sample footage when youtube locks you out of anything beyond low BR 1080p
why don't they put the ACTUAL focal lengths on them? it makes no sense since they are unusable with full frame sensors O_O
This is a sponsored video, Sirui paid you and probably signed off on the video. Am I wrong? Didn't mean there is anything wrong with that, but despite the tag from RUclips saying it's sponsored you didn't mention it to start the video.
Hey there! Sorry you thought that, but I SIRUI paid me no money, nor did they see the video until after it was uploaded. I always put the sponsored tag on any videos where a company sends me equipment to test. If a brand does pay me or compensates me in any way, I always front load the video/livestream with that information. I appreciate your concern and honesty 🙏
@@garrettsammons Thanks for making that clear. No big deal, but maybe mention that at the start of videos. I think it sets and important context for understanding how to understand your thoughts.
