The look on marks face when he starts waggling the hose...made this 50 year old mans heart ache ...we were all kids once...brilliant acting from all of them ...nothing on tv these days to even come close to the laughs.
British humour! There nothing that can conquer it in the whole world. Great actors, the concern of the details in the sketches, the absurd humour. I just love Big Train! :-D
Money Python's Flying Circus, Fry and Laurie, Harry Enfield and Chums, The Fast Show, Harry and Paul, That Mitchell and Webb Look, Armstrong and Miller, Bruiser, Big Train, Jam, Man Stroke Woman. We do have many quality sketch shows.
haha I saw this randomly on the telly a few years ago and found it hilarious, but didnt know the show's name or anything. Finally managed to find it- love it :D
LOL, I just showed this to my brother and he said "What does showjumpers have to do with firefighters? I don't get it! I won't laugh until I get the connection", and I just told him that that is British humour, lol.
my friends and I sneak up on each other at random moments and say 'do you have smoke...in your lungs?' good when theyre in the middle of drinking and they go 'pffffffffffffffffffffffffff' and spray drink everywhere =D
At 00:04 there is a clipboard in the right that has a list of jobs in it, all crossed out except for "babysitter". This is virtually the same as the list of jobs Pauline writes in the first episode of The League of Gentlemen. Is that just coincidence? Weird. LoG came out the year after this but may have been filmed around the same time. It's not exactly the same list, just weirdly similar.
I dnt understand how they arrived at this sketch in the brainstorming room !!! " I know guys , how's about fireman being harrased by showjumpers during a massive fire !!!
Can someone explain showjumpers and firefighters to Me? Why showjumpers and why do they show a child-like fascination with the fire equipment. They are like dogs, they don't take no for an answer. I find this video quite disturbing. I feel I am missing something, but I don't quite know what!
@@westboundbadger How do we know they are showjumpers? The lady said they were, but they also look like foxhunters. She could have been mistaken. Maybe it is some kind of reference to foxhunting which should be banned. It is saying foxhunters meddle with things they shouldn't?
I laughed at this and I noticed the two lady riders in this sketch, I thought lady riders in the sport of showjumping wear black jackets a stock shirt. Must be eventers.
@@Patriiiiick Did you enjoy the sketch? What do you think were the best bits, and which let it down? I wonder why they only featured this situation once and didn't feature other scenarios of the same idea...

When Simon Pegg gets hit by the axe... Classic. And their faces, especially Heap's when they're having goes on the hose. Brilliant.
I know, Im bloody hysterical..😂😂
I've never seen an adult be able to portray childlike exuberance and behavior this well.
I love that someone thought of the concept of this sketch. It's perfect.
Love it when Mark Heap takes the hose and is just grinning at the fireman.Pure class.
Just realised Mark Heap talks to the woman hes rescueing like shes a skittish horse
I love how they act as children.Thats brilliant!

Two of the shows lead writers were Irish. So, it's not just British humour.
@@DufftronicOk One of them, Arthur Matthews, wrote this sketch and appears in it as a fireman. This episode was also directed by Graham Linehan.
the face of that female showjumper playing with the taps cracks me up every time. So tragic...
Very good acting - the moves, the mimics and behaviour. brilliant :-)
This is one of my favorite sketches. I love that Arthur Matthews forte seems to be angry, hysterical screaming. Thanks for posting!
BRILLIANT "They don't know what they're doin those lads"
I didn't want the sketch to end!!
Bahahahaha Heap and Eldon's faces are the best when they get to hold the hose. hahah too funny.
3:05 I love it when he starts jolting it up and down like an enthusiastic child 😅😅
aw i love when the firefighter swings his ax back onto Simon's head, hilarious :)
hahahahaha this is the funniest sketch next to the Monks baha !!🤣🤣🤣
They seem really nice
What's so interesting about this is that Simon Greenall is the Fireman, and this has Simon Pegg, Mark Heap and Julia Davis, which is very interesting.
Michael the Geordie as a firefighter. There’s a scary thought
Geordies are terrifying to start with
D'ya wan a cuppa beans?
Greatest sketch show ever
Omg when they're all having a go hahahah
Mark Heap does it best - he's hilarious.
The British certainly do have one thing down: Sketch comedy.

Brass eye
Khild565 Brass Eye is great, but I don't think it's a sketch show as it carries the same characters, settings and story throughout an episode.
How did you miss the best one ever: The League of Gentlemen? (Yes, I'm aware that's a subjective statement.)
And panel game shows.
Is the firefighter the same actor who played the Geordie in I'm Alan Partridge?
Yes, Simon Greenall.
The brunette lady is sonja, Alan's girlfriend
And the voice in the Meerkat commercials....simples
And at 3:34 that’s Kevin Eldon who played Mike Sampson on I’m Alan Partridge.
@@shelbyvillerules9962 I am contractually obliged to point out that he's the actor Kevin Eldon.
arthur matthews?
nice one :)
........it's dripping.
Priceless.
I think that someone just found a bunch of show jumpers outfits and they wrote a sketch around that 😂
haha I saw this randomly on the telly a few years ago and found it hilarious, but didnt know the show's name or anything. Finally managed to find it- love it :D
Over the last few days I've become increasingly annoyed that I never knew anything about this show ... and then I realise .. .I do now :)
That's a reference to me not being married, isn't it?
@@SamuelBlack84 I have no idea what you're talking about
So he flips 'em over, and ff-ffuhmff, and funnily enough it lands on its wheels, and it starts first time and they just drive away
This sketch is such a who's who of British Comedy
i'm a firefighter and have such an urge to do it when I go down the pole.
"Is there any smoke in your lungs?" Hahahaha!
The most ridiculous thing I've watched for a while 😂😂😂
LOL, I just showed this to my brother and he said "What does showjumpers have to do with firefighters? I don't get it! I won't laugh until I get the connection", and I just told him that that is British humour, lol.
Albin Olsson [abbedabb] because there piss useless at anything else haha
I was laughing... but, I still need to find the connection.
Arthur Mathews, the writer of the sketch, is the fireman seen @ 1.23 and also later in the clip.
0:23; they remind me of Meerkats the way they move!
The guy playing the main Firefighter also does the voice of the Russian Meerkat in those annoying adverts.
4:19 Looked like Simon Pegg really hurt himself at the end when he put his finger in the water jet stream.
And the girl that saw him was in fits of laughter as she turned back to face the fireman.
Many of the people who watched this at the time have kids, now. What if I told you that's Captain Barnacles with the hose? :)
It stresses me out that they are showjumpers for absolutely no reason! I know that's the whole point but arrggghhhh 😂😂
I love the concept of a completely bonkers crossover 😂
I'm with you mt
Your generation gets very easily stressed
thats brilliant.
Ive watched spaced, red dwarf etc. But i dont get this. What do show jumpers represent?
Nothing. It's just absurdism.
Just realised the main firefighter is Michael from I'm Alan Partridge 😂
my friends and I sneak up on each other at random moments and say 'do you have smoke...in your lungs?'
good when theyre in the middle of drinking and they go 'pffffffffffffffffffffffffff' and spray drink everywhere =D
Ahhh, for the days when you could drink with smoke in your lungs (whether you wanted to or not...).

Honestly don't know why I noticed this but, the board next to the woman at 00:6 ish is a replica of the League of Gentleman Job Club one... :)
The sound is supposed to come out of your speakers. If it doesn't, it's not my fault. I can hear it.
I can also hear it
Brilliant
Brilliant.
Anybody got the "Poledancing Fireman" video? from Big Train? Funniest sketch they ever did...
Sunlight70 Yes, it's up now.
Superb 😂😂
I wonder are they the two dennis fire engines that were used in Londons Burning
well spotted!!
omg that was pretty funny
When Fire get there before the HART team does.

I'm not from Britain, why showjumper though? need the context lol
I just can't suspend my disbelief that any group of them would want to do something useful to society. 😂
3:04 that's f*cking hilarious XD
it's michael out of alan partridge
It's hard to understand the Geordie...people.
This IS the funniest Big Train sketch, the cursing housekeeper was second
You mean Florence Nightingale?
the fireman witht he axe looks really familiar.

@urbanrootz Indeed this is true.

Can someone explain why showjumpers would be so keen to help?
greg seward if you need to understand why you’re missing the point. It’s fantastic surreal madness. Just go with it.

funny
I laughed at this and I noticed the two lady riders in this sketch, I thought lady riders in the sport of showjumping wear black jackets a stock shirt. Must be eventers.
But they aren’t dressed as showjumpers. They’re dressed as hunters. One wears navy, black orteeed coats for showjumping, not one’s hunting pink.
Until recently male showjumpers rode in red jackets, ladies wore blue.
The red of hunting jackets is never, ever referred to as red - it's called pink, even though it's clearly red! @@joylunn3445
This is in unrealistic. The police would not let them near!
They are trying to be like Monty Python but Julia Davis can't act and it falls flat.
It's absurd for a reason. Comedy doesn't have to be realistic.
