My 2006 Saab 9-3 SportCombi has been leaking oil for a few months. I just replaced the valve cover gasket 2 days ago but saw a few drops on my driveway again this morning. My leak is definitely leaking from the driver's side of the engine but I was not sure where. After seeing this video and the location of the Vacuum Pump, I am 99% sure this will fix my issue. I just found your channel today, and, as a Saab owner who likes to do all/most of the work myself, THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS!!
SAABERS: when you replace this vacuum pump seal, go with the lifetime re-engineered one from: RKXTech. They are on ebay and also have a website. I bought one, and they sent me a coupon for 10% off a second order. I ended up buying another because I have several Saabs. The OEM is rubber, but when it goes, it hardens and cracks into pieces. RKX uses a military grade composite that is supposed to be much superior in strength and longevity. They also offer similar improved products for other lines of autos. Worth looking into. And thank you FlyingMechanicDIY for posting your series! Very much appreciated my friend.
my son and I used this video to replace his leaking vacuum pump with a used one we bought for $23. The dealership that still works on Saab's wanted $350 for a new one installed. We followed you step by step and it was easy- Thanks!
Thanks for the step by step .... I need to change this next because it’s leaking a lot of oil.... Thanks 🙏 Update: just replaced the gaskets today and again I appreciate guys like urself who load up videos to help us save money and we can change them ourself....
Success! The only difference was that I have some kind of electrical connector connected through the metal bracket that comes off before the pump. Not a problem though - I just couldn’t take the bracket right out of the car. My rubber seal wasn’t as brittle as in this video but was totally flattened in the same way.
Thank you for posting this! I just replaced my valve cover gasket but still getting an oil leak on the driver side rear of the engine. This looks like the culprit.
They do warp as I found ! Also for my Aero there are two gaskets listed ! After fitting and finding it leaked 😡 eventually bought new one £160 no probs since 🙏
A huge reason for vacuum pump oil leaks are clogged PCV valves. Easy test. With the engine running, take off your oil cap and place your hand over the oil filler. Do you feel pressure? Your PCV valve is clogged.
I'm surprised I got here so fast. I didn't know what was looking. I took some photos getting ready to head to reddit. When I did I searched for oil leak and this was linked in the first post I saw that was about the same engine I have! Nice.
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY I definitely will it looks like before I bought this car the previous owner had the valve cover gasket replaced and right now this is so far the only leak I have noticed I'm getting ready to do a full engine cleaning so I can find out new leaks I have to do a transmission fluid change and a coolant flushing change since they are using just universal green coolant and I'm already getting the stereo system together soon as well I just bypassed and removed my CD player and now I'm just waiting for enough money to get a new head unit I've decided that the best way to do it is to buy a single din head unit that has a built-in 400 watt amp and then just go from there

Margues I'm just picking but they do make left and right driver side with some of these cars. When you say driver side that doesn't narrow it down obviously if you're in the U.S. we can read between the lines just something to keep in mind LOL I seen many people to this.(( But Saab on and stay strong))
Gonna try this tomorrow and 🤞🏻🤞🏻it works. Hopefully get my son out of college next year and the car lasts through it. Also they would not change the oil with the leaks and some oil close to muffler. How can we clean under car after this repair
kestasn it could be old oil residues, or other leaks (power steering pump, oil cooler, valve cover) If you cant see anything external, make sure you are using low volatility oil like Mobile1. Finally a bad PCV valve could cause excessive oil burn and smell.
In my case I replaced leaking valve cover gasket, but after, I still could smell burning oil, but no visible leaks. Recently while doing maintenance under the car, I noticed that turbo is leaking oil all over (gaskets) , which eventually spreads to catalytic converter and burns. Check your turbo.
Now it is fixed and it took around an hour. One tip is to be careful and maybe spray with Silicon around the red bracket on the connector, can be dry and crack. The gasket was thicker than I thought, pressed together when I mounted the pump. Now test drive, hope it does not leak. 👍
thx for the video. I have replaced the seal and it worked…however I broke the retainer of the vacuum hose when I performed the process. So I bought a set of the hoses, but the end stick into the booster seemed to be hard to remove and WIS simply says remove it from the booster…any idea about how to do it properly?🤔😐
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY When I repaired mine started leaking after installing..even tough only CHF11 was always used..the OEM O-ring is Square but I have replaced it many times with a good 80x3mm Vitton O-Ring and pumps work very well after that...juts my recommendation...thanks
